For someone who made a lot of dumb mistakes and just now started fixing life you really helped me settle on plumbing and I am learning a ton just from watching you! Albuquerque new mexico sir. I may ask you a lot of questions over time, but i have two really pressing ones. Where is a good place to look for good priced plumbing tools and what are good brands to keep an eye out for? Kind of on a tight budget at the moment, but do not want to get super cheap quick to break tools. Next semester I start the hands on stuff and they have a very large list of tools so any suggestions would be amazing.

Remember, keeping the customer happy does NOT always mean they are right. Treat their home like your own, respectful tone and attitude goes a long way.. Listen, explain, sometimes, they just want to be heard but remember you are the professional but you are human too so a stupid suggestion may not be as stupid has you first think. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES are you a target for their angry, if they start yelling or cussing, give them warnings, CALL YOUR BOSS and if they do not stop, leave. If you BOSS says stay. Stay, unless it is physically unsafe, then find a new Boss.

This is the same 3-valve and spout model that I need to replace. We recently got isolation valves installed for the tub so that I could try to tackle this without having to shut off at the main again. Super weird that we have a huge access panel to the tub but absolutely nothing that justified the access beforehand! I really appreciate the realness of your documentary and commentary through this process...loved the prematurely incorrect discovery of missing parts LOL! I hope I can do this. If not, I'll reach out to our plumber again who did the isolation valves for us. Wish me luck!

Normally I don't watch this kind of stuff, but his jobs are adventures. There is always something unexpected and frustrating that he has to tackle. And IMHO, the plumbing industry should have developed more advanced connectors and tools by now. I would be curious to get his opinion on using PEX in general. It seems to me that it would be a good choice especially when working on older plumbing systems and homes. And of course, what about using PVC. Could this have been a solution in this case ?

So this looks exactly like our 60 year old bathroom with identical fixtures. It still mostly works, but I'm looking at making some changes because I've been getting black debris in the hot water from it. Cold seems fine and other hot taps in the house are fine. I've replaced everything from the tankless with expansion PEX A up to the 1/2" copper pipe that goes up through the floor feeding it from my basement and I'm still getting the debris. So now I'm guessing it's coming from the valve or some of the old galvanized fittings or the nipple. After watching this I may just change out the whole 8" valve like you did through an old access panel in our son's closet. I was going to see if maybe I could just replace the nipple with a brass one, but I'm having trouble getting the spout off right now. I was hoping to reuse it since it's original, but I may need to take my big wrench to it like you did. Thanks for the video of just exactly what I needed to see. Enormous help. If we ever meet, the drinks are on me. However, I'm wondering why you say the entire bathroom needs to be "gutted". Ours is green tile but otherwise looks the same down to the tub.

Thank you for posting this video. This is the same 3 value shower I need to replace and it helps to have seen one replaced by an expert! There is no access panel behind my wall and the bathroom was added to this house in the 1950's so my guess mine is original and has never been replaced. Thanks again! Great video!

Thanks so much for this video! I have the same problem. I've replaced the seals and seats a couple of times now. Keeps on dripping. If you don't mind me asking, how do you get for a job like that with parts?

I love your cheery attitude!! Nicey nice!! My dad taught me everything I know, but you use equipment I'm not familiar with. A machine to connect the pipes which avoids sweating them on?

I have that same bathroom fixture which is leaking really bad on the hot water side. The problem is I can’t even get the escutcheon off. What tool do I need to remove it?

I don't have an access panel to get to the back of the tub. Our tub is one big fiberglass shower/ tub combo. I've tried replacing the knobs but can't find a replacement that fits. What do I do?

After the cutting the pipes and seating the connectors in the pipe what type of tool is that you used ? It almost looks like you crimped the connectors to the pipe without soldering them , they have those types of tools?

First let me say, I love my pro-press, question, I always de-burr after cutting copper, inside and outside, do you feel it is not needed? I have one of these to do next week, I think I will need to cut wall to get to shower riser, your trick of opening hole in 2x4 might save me

Can a three-handle be converted to a two-handle with the diverter in the faucet? (my tub surround is fiberglass; easy enough to patch the hole)

When you said you went surfing before work.... subbed. Plumbing is one of those things that... even though I understand how it works... it would probably take me a good part of a day to do what you just did... along with several trips to the hardware store.

Great how-to video. Was there a means of fire retardant close by? My setup is about the same, but without the shutoff valves. I think I saw enough to start thinking of having a plumber do it.

Nice work Chuck, most of the videos I've seen only show replacing valve stems ; you actually replaced an existing - Wow ! How much does a job like this cost (labor price) ; i can't find a plumber in my area that will attempt to do the job you did. Thank you !
