Three Fishers on Irish bouzouki and shruti box

Музыка

This version draws heavily on the version by the Duhks who drew heavily on Stan Rodgers. I'm playing a trillium bouzouki and working a shruti box with my legs outside the frame.

    I’ve bought an Irish Bouzouki and I’m determined to learn how to play this. Without a doubt this is the best version of ‘Three Fishers’ on KZread. Is there any chance you could just show the chord shapes for a typical verse etc. Many thanks .

  • @kipjohnson

    @kipjohnson

    Жыл бұрын

    Relative to the capo, there are really only four chord shapes used-Bm (4400), G (0550), A (2200), and D (x000). There's two places where different shapes are used. The first is in the third line of the verse (Each thought of the woman that loved him the best) where the A shape is (6000). The second is in the third line of the chorus, where the G shape is (0020) for a richer sound on the high point of the melody line. I've marked those chords with an asterisk, and have written out the chords for the first verse and melody, which remain constant for the entire song. Bm G A Three fishers went sailing out into the west, Bm G A Into the west as the sun settled down, G Bm A* Each thought of the woman that loved him the best, Bm G A And the children stood watching them out of the town. D G A And men must work and women must weep, Bm G A For there's little to earn and many to keep, G* A And the harbour bar be moaning, Bm A (Bm for next verse, D if repeating chorus.) And the harbour bar be moaning.

    Thanks for the assist here! Rarely have time to check in on comments these days. Would add that the G chord is usually 0500, and the chordal slide from A to Bm and chordal hammer-on from G to A really create the "hook" of the song. Best wishes!

    Would you consider doing a full tutorial on how to play it exactly as you my friend? I've nailed the chords, but I seem to play them just a bit different. Also the gorgeous ornaments in the intermission at 1:35 and you add throughout the rest of the song would be crazy nice to learn! I would deeply appreciate it man. Love from Denmark!

    I'm not sure I'll be able to do a full tutorial as I play it different each time. The two key things are the first chordal slide from A to Bm and the chordal "hammer-on" from the G to the A chord. These techniques are most frequently used for single notes but I love the motion they give to the chord changes. There are also two G chords I use, 0020 and 0550 as well as two A chords 2200 and 6000 depending on the moment in the song. Hope that helps a bit.
