When making a blood knot. Anything larger than 20 lb 4 or 5 turns is plenty. For more delicate presentations. Yes, 6 or 7 is enough. With building my own leaders. With a 7wt rod. I make a 8 foot leader. I make a 4 1/2 foot butt section using 30# mono then blood knot to 2’ transition section of 20# Mono then blood knot to 18’ of 15# fluorocarbon for a tippet. It’s for large mouth bass and it’s very affective. Tie a perfection loop and then build the leader. I never use more than 5 wraps with this set up. But I suppose if your using 4 or 5X tippet. It’s necessary to use 7 wraps.
