I agree that this is a great song but Chuck Negron did not write it. The Three Dog Night did not write their songs, The song was originally written and sung by Harry Nilsson. Harry Nilsson wrote a lot of songs but only sang a few that became famous

@@crazyralph3585 shall we tarnish the legend of Elvis because he didn't write all the songs he sang? No. Who cares. Chuck Negron was able to take those songs and apply his magic touch to them to create the majestic image of Three Dog Night. They were spectacular then and they still are.

My mother had this album and I think it was somewhere in the 80s I played this song and she sang the whole thing. I asked her why she liked it so much, she said to me, "your father was drafted to Vietnam and One was the loneliest number." Always remembered that when I hear this jam.

Your mother has great taste in music. 1969, I was 14 yrs old, it was a very tough year as far as the War. Every person knew someone who had served in Vietnam or killed there. Finally the War ended in January 1973. I joined the United States Marine Corps in 1973. By April 1975, I was stationed on Okinawa and helped during the Evacuation of Saigon, total chaos.

I can relate. I loved this song too. My brother went to Vietnam in 1969 in the Army's Mobile Riverine Assault Force and was killed by an explosive device that hit him with scrap metal. He'd only been there 20 days when killed. It had to be a closed coffin funeral due to the condition of his body. I cried from the night we found out for 2 weeks before l could go back to school. Hundreds of folks showed up for his funeral.

There is NO OTHER CHUCK NEGRON! NO ONE, NO ONE, compares or can sing the Three Dog Night's songs better than Charles Negron, no matter how hard they try to clone him! That's why the Three Dog Night almost always needs 3 vocalists to replicate the quality and beautiful voice of Chuck Negron, and they still can never come close. CHUCK NEGRON just CANNOT BE REPLICATED!

99% agree!! But ya cant count out Corey!! But all in all, its a dammmmmed shame that these guys are NOT in R&R HoF....... Or is that "Hall of Shame"??? It's probably too late for them now, as we lost Jimmy Greenspoon and Corey just passed in 2015.

I have to admit, there were probably more talented talent in the 1970s than any two decades put together. They didn't just sing, they wrote their songs, too, that went on to be classic! I was born in 1966, so I was a bit too young to understand the 70's, making me an 80s girl, but gosh, I LOVE 1970s music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like to show me kids these older videos so they can relate to the time period me and my siblings were young and what we listened to. I was the youngest sibling and my brothers were in high school. I tell my daughters what was going on in history at that time. Plus, I teach them about the great music that has led to the music they now listen to.
