Minoans: Were a Bronze Age civlization; yet get fully upgraded birremes, trirremes, and Juggernaughts plus all pit techs. Macedonians: Can't reaserch the Juggernaught despite the fact that the largest ships in the ancient world were built during the Hellenistic period. Invented the famous giant "Helepolis" to storm Rhodes; yet can't research the Helepolis or the Heavy catapult. Romans: Had, probably, the most professional infantry of all time; Choson's legions are the best in the game. Never used Scythe Chariots in warfare; still, they can research them. Hittites: Their siege engines were nothing special and they were not know to have ever deployed horse archers in battle; yet both units get a bonus that makes them OP. Also, Armoured elephants? Wtf? Assyrians: Invented the first large siege engines and were famous for their ability to storm cities; don't have access to the heavy catapult with engineering upgrade. Where conspicuous for their use of large contingents of mounted archers clad in bronze and iron; yet can't upgrade their horse archers nor research most iron age pit technologies. Persians: First big civilization to make use of Cataphracts; yet they can't resarch chain mail for their cavalry. Inventors of Scythe chariots; no Scythe chariots (can't even research the wheel). Were expert archers; their compos are shit. Carthaginians: Their use of scythe chariots in their wars against the Greeks is well documented; can't research them. Masters of siege; can't research catapults. Most iron age civs (Greece, Carthage, Macedonia, Persia) suck.

I'm a fairly new player to this game and holy shit, I can't even beat the campaign levels against CPUs, they're so hard! Currently on the Egyptian naval battle level and I can never seem to break the ship deadlock. But this tutorial has given me lots of different ideas to try and should be much easier now. Thanks a bunch! :D

Just a hint, normally there more you harrass the ai the more it begins to fall apart... Also any typ of mass ship spamm attack normally wins for me any of the water/ river maps ... Kill its eco and buildings at the water. Than begins to build production at the land covered by the ships make some catapults and units to defend the siege. While slowly deleting your own ships to get supply for land units...A and cover it with towers ... Once you got a landing zone/ taking ground begin to build towers... Ai is weak vs towers ...

Thanks. I can usually outlast the CPU on large maps over a long period of time but these rushes look very useful for smaller maps which could be applied in some of the campaign levels.

Ok thats all well and good, but how do i play a safe, defensive style as greek against all these strats? The bewst i can come up with is 1) Wall off with buildings and trees to limit the enemy mobility. 2) Make plenty of slingers as they counter the axeman and will equalise the Slinger rush, and will help defend the chariot archer rush. 3) lose after the chariot archer player amasses enough of them to eclipse the defensive capabilities of the slingers and walls. 4) search for KZread videos on how to not suck in AOEDE.

MyLifeForAuir87 Wow Elite idea. Only truly good players thinks like you. The only problem with using too many walling buildings it cost wood. If you play water maps you lose water control. Your economy might be weak in water maps.

Dont play greeks. In my opinion, and from my experience, they are one of the worse civs, very predictable, becauss their only good option is the hoplite line(which you should definetly make on any civ since they can destroy literally everything.) Their naval options are really good too, but thats kinda it and the centurion, since they are so predictable, can easily be countered by a couple of catapults. I recommend to wall in as babylonians with actual walls and put some towers behind, and then boom to your hearts content

I like to play Greek and rush with Hoplites. The strategy almost the same as with Chariots - after taking Stone Age build Market and Stables and then upgrade to Bronze Age. While upgrading - build farms and gather some gold. After that, build 2 Academies and start to build 4 Hoplites and then I rush. Works almost always because Greek Hoplites are cheap and slightly more expensive than Swordsman but move fast.

Might I suggest a cavalry rush? Yes, they cost gold BUT you can get them immediately upon entering the Bronze Age (no need to wait for Wheel to finish researching). They're just as fast as chariots, yet have better HP, Attack, and Armor. They can also be upgraded in the Iron Age to Heavy Cavalry which are better those three areas than the Scythe Chariot (upgrade also available in the Iron Age). Plus, Heavy Cavalry can be upgraded again to become Cataphracts, which are even better than Heavy Cavalry.

It would have been great if you defeated Viper jeje. Maybe when the new DLC of AOE2 is realased (it will include AOE1 in AOE2) Viper will play it again and you will have another chance ;)

Cool video, thanks. I have a question though. Does anyone know why Age of Empires: Definitive Edition DOES NOT have an option for "max age"? I'd like to play a match where you cannot upgrade to Bronze Age. Another match where you can only get to Bronze Age, not Iron. Rise of Nations did this, why did their remaster version of AoE:DE not add the option? Is it coming in future patch? Thanks.

hi your aoe 2 player and viper is aswell both are still very new and week players as far as aoe de game play is concerned sure you guys will be good player with lot of practice i am very weak player but still can beat Viper

Depends on what kind of map or strategy you want to do...

Only the Axeman rush worked for me. When I tried the other strategies, the enemy just killed all of my soldiers and kept on advancing.

while i do like aoe2 more than i like aoe1, i think aoe1 is way underrated

Rusher use chariots or stoners.

What is good time to be going up if you are going for one of these strats

How to win? Choose Babylonian, over populate villagers early game put 4 villagers on stone as early as possible and layer walls at a reasonable distance and go full out eco and tower spam... Gg

Aoe is not hard to learn because you guys don't watch players like theviper or rfr_gold you get stuck at inter level. If you guys watch the best players you will improve a lot. There are many old tutorials from old dead aoe sites left around. One important stuff for newbies dodging and repairing. Dodge so you don't die quickly. Wall with buildings and watch Vietnamese play aoe they are the best like Chimsedinang. I am a judge in aoe I will deliver your opponent to you so you can get competition.

LOL at the twist. That happened to me the other day. I was going to slinger rush as assyrian. Then shit. There are NO slingers. How did I miss that? I mined all that stone and upgraded stone for no fucking reason. I lost.

5 vills on berries is not enought to maintain a non stop vill production. In aoe 1 vills are made in 20s, not 25s like aoe 2, so u need 50 food/20s = 2,5 food/s a vill gathers 10 food/21s in a berry bush, so 5 vills with no walking will gather 50food/21s= 2,38095 food/s, unless u have shang (vill = 40 food). It's also important to say that Hitites and Assyrans don't have slingers.

foragers collect faster, 10food/21s. In aoe 2 it's 10food/32s. If in the classic aoe 1 is also 10f/21s and a vill created in 20 secs, then 5 vills are not enough. Maths, man, maths.

I have tested out some cases using explored map, and even with close berries and good granary placement, 5 is not enough. 6 is a better option.

That difference really isn't important, because in my experience you'll only have a few seconds of idle time before you start to put your 10th/11th/12th villagers on food. The reason you put the 6th villager on wood instead of food is because you need the wood to keep yourself from getting housed Also, foragers are slower than hunters in DE

If you are playing against AI, be careful when attacking. The AI will send all of its villagers to attack your soldiers. Make sure you attack with more than 6 soldiers so you can kill them.
