The postings here dismiss Mr. Oldies' great job in compiling the more meaningful sequences of Jean Negulesco's movie. They also give little thought to Sinatra's hit song being very popular at the time, much more so than were the alternative renditions that they submit. Moreover, many are likely not familiar with the movie. That Fox assigned Mr. Negulesco light entertainment should not take away the congratulations that are due Mr. Oldies, indeed.

This film transports you back to Rome in the 1950's! And so too does this video Mr. Oldies compiled!
Man, that mid-50s technicolor really pops. Big fat saturated colors. Gorgeous. I believe the cinematography won the Academy Award that year.
When times were great, god i wish i could go back to them days
There have been many versions of this timeless classic, but this is unquestionably the finest.
Timeless voice! Sinatra’s warm baritone is beautiful!
Sitting here in Rome enjoying everything I can. Especially the beautiful Trevi fountain. I thought of this movie and this song. Perfect!

Frank Sinatra - one of the great voices of all time. His are the only LP's I kept of my parents after they passed.
Just came back from a romantic 3 week holiday in Rome where this film was made. It was romantic for the scenery, the magnificent art, charming cobbled alleyways and of course the majestic, historic buildings which we only covered a fraction of.. We also went to the famous Trevi Fountain where the 3 ladies in the film threw the coins and made a wish. We did the same and tried to visualize what it was like back then. Rome is certainly an Aladdin's cave of wonders that kept on giving every minute of every new day we were there. 3 weeks was not enough to see all its glory but we got a taste of it as well as the fab cuisine
finally decided to check this song out from my rewatch of planes, trains, and automobiles. never heard this song or movie before. may have to check this out.
Just watched Summer Holiday with Katherine Hepburn set in Venice. Lovely film.
I am not the greatest fan of Sinatra but, my goodness, this is superb. The sensitivity and phrasing is incredible. The whole song evokes a strange longing in me but for what? I have no idea. Maybe the past when such songs and films were made - better times.
Absolutely stunning! The incredible voice, the beautifully sentimental lyrics and superbly luscious strings. A masterpiece that takes me somewhere but I just cannot fathom where, but into the past, certainly.
Was just there tonight for the first time in 13 years, I played this clip while I was standing there because it was one of the songs and movies my parents loved, and because my mom passed away in February. You'll never see it as empty as it is in the movie... and tonight there was at least one marriage proposal there!
My mum and dads song.
Those beautiful, elegant, refined clothes...what happened to them? Wish there were things like that to wear today. 😥
Beautiful, with Louis Jourdan at some stunning fountain, reminds me of the scene in GIGI.

The Fountain of Trevi. It appeared in Roman Holiday (1953) during Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn's secret whirlwind romance. In Fellini's La Dolce Vita (1960) Anita Ekberg wades in it one night and entices Marcello Mastroianni to join her.
My mom used to sing this when I was a kid. I knew it was from the 50's her era. This one's for you mom. She's no longer here.

Rosanno Brazzi and Louis Jourdan not bad either! Men just do not look like that anymore. Handsome and smart. I believe Jourdan helped his country as a young man in the War.
And what a GREAT recording!
I’ve just looked this up when I came across a load of old sheet music 🥰
Yo vi esa película en 1955 yo tenía 12 años y tanto la canción como la película me gustaron mucho. Y mi deseo siempre es visitar La Fontana Di Trebi, pero hasta el momento no he podido pero sé que lo lograré.

@@dvferyance Check out the back-of-the-bus singalong in Planes, Trains and Automobiles…
It's been said that the song, written by Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn, was created in Hollywood from the screenplay, while the film was being shot in Rome. The song was so well received, that a fountain montage was shot so the song could be the first thing in the movie and its popularity was extensively used for radio promotion.
Who saw it in the sixties? Me and my friends were very moved and delighted that Love won the six souls.
I just listened to this song fully, I know I have heard pieces of it through the years, after finding out it won the Oscar for Best Song in 1955 over Judy Garland’s “The Man that Got Away”. I really cannot understand what Academy voters saw in this song. No one sings this song anymore, it’s relegated to elevator music status. But, “The Man that Got Away” is a nightclub staple and is still covered by different singers, male and female. It has much more staying power. Three Coins in the Fountain is perfectly pleasant, but it will never match The Man that Got Away.

Funny, I know this song. Not so much the Judy song.
This song carries special poignancy for me. As a child I visited and spent considerable time in Rome, as my father was employed with UN's FAO branch and divided his time between there, the States and whatever other country his job would take him.
good old days,🇺🇸🇯🇵💝❤️🔥💖👍
Flintstones we’re the Flintstones
I had no idea that Frank Sinatra's singing here was uncredited...!
Una cancion preciosa interpretada por LA VOZ MARAVILLOSO SIEMPRE 🎼🎶🎵🎹🎷🎸🎻🎺📯😍😍😍😍😍😍😀😀😀😀😀
Fond childhood memories. First ever song that I listened to on a Gramaphone, which had to be wound. Can't remember the Singer, but the Record Label i think, was Decca on a 78 rpm disc.

Wow...
They don't make movies like this anymore.
Reminds me of the Everybody loves Raymond episode where Ray's mother is taking them all to Italy. He whines because he wants to go on their regular vacation. His wife tells him normally she puts up with his stupitidy, BUT THIS IS ITALY!
50'li yıllarda kadınlar ne zarif, ne güzel giyiniyorlarmış. Bu arada bu dünyaya bir daha Sinatra gibi bir ses gelmez.
Neil Page!

In this entertaining 1954 nominee for the Best Picture Oscar®, three American women in romantic Italy (Dorothy McGuire, Jean Peters and Maggie McNamara) decide it's time to end their single status. So they whimsically toss coins into Rome's spectacular Trevi Fountain for luck in love. But none has the kind of luck she hopes for in this fun romp that also stars Rossano Brazzi and Louis Jourdan. Actors Clifton Webb Dorothy McGuire Jean Peters Louis Jourdan Maggie McNamara
I wish I tossed three coins..... It is a nice song. 如果睇過粵語長片可能聽過飛仔跳落坑渠。
