    I really love the Domke bags. I have a Brevite and I take that when I’m going light. Also have a Wandrd backpack that I don’t like very much. It’s heavy when empty, bulky, but I do like the roll top and that it opens from the back. Generally I carry a Domke F-2 with my Pentax 67 and Fujifilm Xpro2. It’s way more comfy and easier to access than a backpack. And I like that I can swing it in front of me in urban spots where I’m not sure about my surroundings. And then I have a couple of the Domke f5xb which are great for EDC. Not as stylish as the ONA (which I had as well). And then I have peak design bags. But I’m paring down the bags.

    I use the Bellroy Venture Sling 9L for my small everyday carry. For the medium sized carry, I’m using the Peak Design Everyday Backpack V2 (which I’m also about to recommend to you haha) which I just got early this year, and I now absolutely love! I have used it for a trip abroad carrying 3 cameras and a medium format one. My big utility bag is the Chrome Niko Camera Backpack which is holding up pretty well, as I’ve been using it for almost 7 years now. The Lowepro backpack was in my options but eventually decided on Peak Design. You’ll love it. Love your videos as usual :)

    I'm sure camera bags are living things because they multiply. Always have more than you think. I love sling bags and used a Crumpler Jackpack 3000 and Proper Roady 4500 for ages until I got my Think Tank Retrospective 5 & 7 leather they are absolutely awesome bags. (one the aesthetic bonuses that some of the bags have including those with waxed canvass or leather is the unique patina your bag develops over time according to your usage and care) For hiking its the F-stop Suhka 70L - that takes everything and is indestructible so far in cold Tassie winters. Otherwise its camera cubes in my repurposed 30L Patrolman Kit Bag. Bags are as user unique as cameras themselves - so many to choose from and there is one out there that ticks all the boxes for you, but will no doubt be a dog for someone else. Great video.

    An interesting video for us ‘bag heads’! I have used Billingham bags for a long time. They are on the pricy side, but the quality is superb. They are waterproof, hard-wearing and, if you are bothered about this sort of thing, they look great too. I have collected four different Billinghams over the years, but the two I use the most are the Hadley Small and the Hadley Pro. I also have a Hadley One and a Hadley Digital. The removable internal padding is thick and tough and provides complete protection. No bags are ever perfect and I guess that a downside of these bags is that they are not quite as adaptable when it comes to carrying large and varied amounts of gear, but this is not an issue for me because I prefer messenger style bags. However, Billingham also make a couple of Backpacks if that is what you prefer. Small disclaimer - they are manufactured about 8 miles from where I live in England, so there is a bit of local loyalty here! However, the quality of the bags speak for themselves.

    Nice, Billingham's do look fantastic! Personally, I have a certain threshold for the size of slings and messenger style bags due to getting aches/pains after sustained use, so I tend to prefer a backpack once things get bigger than the bowery.

    Great video Hashem, thanks for sharing! I use two different bags myself; a first version ProTactic 350 like yours (but smaller) for daytrips, and a super cheap $5 sling bag that I got at Paddys Market in Sydney a decade ago with a bright orange camera insert with a divider that fits perfectly. Semi-tacky and low key, but very functional. Plus, it has a million little pockets! I might make a video about it sometime. Cheers mate

    I've owned the Lowepro 450 mark 1 and currently have the mark 2 and they have made some improvements including the shape of the top like you said. The 450ii is my main bag for travel and most photo outings, but I also have a PGYTECH 6L sling bag for when I just want to walk around with my film camera and a couple lenses.

    As a camera bag hoarder for years, the only 2 that stuck with me are the Brevite Jumper for daily use and the ProTactic 450 for pro events.

    Love my shimoda explore v2. It's great for all my trips and held up well in wet Icelandic weather. Lots of organization and comfy straps. I use a peak design sling for walking around locally and it works well.

    I have 3 different Ona bags they are really great but over the years I've realised padding is overrated. Now my favourite bag is a Czech gas mask bag from a army surplus store and only cost $23.

    That Brevite Jumper looks nice and something I'd like to have as a medium sized backpack, which I don't have. My main EDC bag is the Billingham Hadley small (saved my gear in the rain as its waterproof) and my beefy bag is a Mindshift backpack which I used to use for photography work. But I'd love to have a nice sized EDC backpack as messenger bags get tiring on the shoulders, I'm gonna have to look out for a Brevite I think.

    Interesting take and makes sense given the requirements on a daily basis. I tend to focus on bringing the least amount of gear. So my 2 daily drivers are the Bellroy venture 10L camera bag if I wanted to bring multiple lenses and a point and shoot compact too. The peak design 3L is perfect for single camera, wallet keys and phone, the absolute bare minimum

    Hi Hash, the Ona Bowery looks good on paper. The front and side pockets aren’t well designed as they flatten when the interior is full. It becomes a chore to place anything inside and even more difficult to fish it. The interior is well padded. I have since replaced it with a Tomtoc sling which is cheaper and looks nondescript. Peter McKinnon bags are over priced. Don’t buy them. You could always get a good camera insert like F stop and use them with normal bags. The inserts are designed with good padding.

    That's fair! I haven't had that issue personally (based on the items I use) The main complaint I'd make, if any... is the latches that attach the strap: They are a bit sharp and protrude to where they can accidentally unclip if you're not weary of their orientation. Yeah, definitely over-priced. I'm going to look at the Urth bag I think.

    I prefer a sling as im too lazy but I own few backpacks for when hiking or going on trips, where a sling is just not enough. My daily carry is Wotancraft Pilot 10l (best sling ever imo). I'd recommend looking at Shimoda backpacks, I have the Explore series and its fantastic! I wanted to get the Brevite but a front acces is a deal breaker for me.

    Previously, I mainly used slings including larger ones than this Ona, but eventually tried to steer away because it was contributing to a weird neck/trap pain that I get. So even with the Ona I try to switch sides every now and then. I've heard of Shimoda, will check them out!

    I'm positively stuck on a Domke F2 which I tried to improve upon several times but for me and what I do this still seems to be a perfect match. Maybe I should get a new one as it starts developing holes on the corners after more than 20 years of use.

    Like you , I have 3 flavors of bags...a run out the door sling bag with enough space for a camera and a lens....then I have a "I'll go have some fun" bag when I have the time to figure out what I want to do that day, and finally I have the serious, break the bank bag for the 645 medium format with a couple extra lenses and a serious tripod. If I can get away with it, give me the sling bag any day.

    The Ona Bowery was on my list but I wanted space for a water bottle so I got a Bellroy Venture Sling 9l. As for backpack, I bought a super heavy duty one but mostly because I like the look not because it’s particularly good for camera gear

    Got an Ona Bowery years ago when you first shared yours, and its a ripper. Also have a Brevite, that has been through the wringer and is a good bit of gear. I ended up getting another one in the Large size, but it honestly didn't seem any bigger than what I already have, might be worth having a look at the Lowepro instead.

  • @pushingfilm

    Nice! Yeah when looking at the dimensions of the regular vs large Jumper, I saw that there isn't a very big difference between the two. Probably just to offer that option to squeeze a couple of extra items in, while keeping the bag fairly mid-sized.

  • @mdjmurray
    @mdjmurray20 күн бұрын

    The Jumper is a nice bag. I’ve had one for a long time now. My main gripe though is the dividers. They don’t have any Velcro on the sides and so as the bag flexes all the stuff falls around the sides of the dividers to the bottom, making them completely pointless.

  • @pushingfilm

    @pushingfilm

    19 күн бұрын

    Agreed! On your note about the dividers, I didn't notice this for a long time... until I placed some small/loose items in there like film rolls, etc. I noticed it especially when only partially loaded. Definitely something that could be improved.

    As a Melbournian, can I just ask which camera store you worked for? Just genuinely curious haha! I’m the same as you, I have 3 styles of bag for 3 different applications. I prefer a messenger style bag for casual photography and use a Crumpler 5 million dollar house or something like that?. That being said that was mainly used when I was shooting M4/3, since moving to FF I have struggled to fit it in the bag so have been using a cheap sling bag from amazon which is atrocious and I need to invest into a better bag haha! I also have a huge cheap 40Lish bag for work, when I need to bring more gear. I don’t love using that bag much though. Perhaps I should look into a LowPro 450…

    With the waxed canvas on the Ona Bowery, did you ever worry about transferring the “waxy” material on the bag to your cameras via your hands?

  • @pushingfilm

    @pushingfilm

    2 ай бұрын

    Not at all! Never experienced anything like this. I rewaxed mine with Fjallraven's "Greenland" that supplied for jackets and such (what you see in the most footage of my mine where it looks older) The factory coating is not as prominent or waxy looking.
