Three ACL Tears Can’t Stop Rebeca Andrade

Спорт

Rebeca Andrade’s gymnastics journey has been a roller coaster. There were many times when it looked like she may never compete gymnastics again. However, her perseverance has guided her into becoming one of the most well known and impressive gymnasts of all time. Coming back to the sport after one ACL tear is very challenging, but to do it three times is just remarkable. She is truly an inspiration to all gymnasts, and anyone who has suffered a similar injury.

The first time Brazil started taking a different look for gymnastics was with Daiane dos Santos, with her Brasileirinho routine. Then, there was a lost of interest, after her retirement, and now Rebecca made the country talk about gymnastics again. There is been more investment in the sport as well.

Rebecca probably doesn't focus as much on her landings because of her injury history... it's a tactic to avoid getting hurt... she's just focusing on that part now as she's more confident and consistent in every way, even more so now in Paris 2024!

I don't know of another WAG who suffered such devastating injuries and returned to competition let alone return with such great success as Rebecca has. One can only speculate about how better she would have been at this stage without those injuries but I think she might say that they have helped to make her the gymnast she is today as all adversities that we face and overcome tend to do for us all. I hope she stays healthy and fit for the rest of her career because it is exciting to watch someone other than Simone with the ability to BRING IT on the World stage.

Great video! And great great breakdown of her career! I hope she stays healthy this year for the Olympics, that'll be so exciting to see. Just a small correction, she was the first female gymnast to win an olympic medal for Brazil, but not the first overall. Arthur Zanetti won gold at the 2012 London Olympics on rings, and silver at the 2016 Rio Olympics. (:

I liked your point of view for the AA final on the Olympics cause I feel the same. She was so powerful on that flor routine (which she manage of the years to come and now she have a beautiful and consistent routine) and she went silver for that. But she was magnificent!

Quick correction: Rebecca is the first Brazilian woman in Gymnastics to medal in OG. We’ve had Zanetti, Mariano, and Hypolito medal for the men first =]

As a Brazilian, I can say that we are immensely proud of our 4 main gymnasts (Rebeca, Flávia, Jade and Lorrane) all of whom had serious injuries and managed to recover with great determination. They are united, strong and people with an excellent heart, focused on transforming this sport and the social reality here in Brazil.

Good video, but just a correction, Rebeca was the first female gymnast to win an olympic medal, as Arthur Zanetti won gold on rings in 2012 and silver in 2016, and in the 2016 Olympics Diego Hipólito won silver on floor alongside Arthur Mariano who won the bronze. The sport has definitely advanced a lot in Brazil in the last few years, but there is a pretty huge discrepancy between the best in the country and the rest, who are decent but cannot produce a challenging level of difficulty. That's why the MAG and WAG teams basically always look the same except for 1 or 2 alternatives. I'm Brazilian myself so I follow it pretty closely haha. A current youngster who is getting better and better is Diogo Soares, he went to the 2021 Olympics at 18 and most recently finished 10th in the AA in Antwerp WC.

Alexander Alexandrov was a GREAT Soviet coach, when the Soviet Union broke apart he moved to the USA and ended up coaching at Karolyi's, he took Dominique Moceanu to US Jr National Champion in 1994, the next year under Karolyi fired Alexandrov and coached Domi to 5th at Worlds and 2nd on beam. Alexandrov went to Brazil...he was the one who spotted Andrade training and saw her potential then took her to Rio...when he left Valeri took over, but he was sadly back and forth to the states to run WOGA....His credentials include training Aliya Mustafina, Svetlana Boginskaya, Rozalia Galiyeva, Dmitry Bilozerchev, Valentin Mogilny, Carly Patterson, Mohini Bhardwaj and Kim Zmeskal.
