When we started we had no training. Ours came from a craigslist sale so it wasn't threaded and had the wrong cam in. We spent just over a year trying to match typical merrowed patches. After all that frustration and seeing so many MG-3Us ending up on the chopping block we knew we had to make a video. That's what Nerds do, we try to help.

hello i bought a new Merrow but the instructions on how to connect it to the sewing table(Helmsman) are pretty much non-existent. do you have any pointers or tutorials?

What is the best tension for all threads, when you are usin 5 Threads for the upper looper???? Are you usind needle 110 metric??? What number of cam are you using. I use Merrow floss an 40 cam but I wanna give anothe possibility a chance, because everytime I need to buy a Merrow floss cone wit 5000 yrds and sometimes I only need not so much for a red, yellow or green border.

We're uploading a video right now that discusses a small portion of the tensions. But on ours we have the Needle thread tight, the upper looper is very loose, and the lower looper is very tight. We have both a #14 and a #28 cam for ours, but only use the #28 for patches. It came with the #14 so we had to get the #28 for the patch border. For needles we use 4BD-Titanium needles ordered directly from Merrow. We don't like spending lots of money on floss for every color we needed. That's why we spent the time to find the standard embroidery threads that work on the merrow machines, and that's what we use 90% of the time.

Recently purchased a Merrow M 3Dw. It’s the grey colored machine. Can I get the same border as a MG 3U for patches with this machine?

Asking myself the same question … i have Mg 3Dw 7… I read that we can get the same result by removing cutter optional, lowering feed dogs and changing cam to a 20 … all mods being dearly easy to do

Is it all 40wt you use ? I’m having issues with my lower looper where the thread is getting tangle before it reaches the tension disc 😢

I started buying either 300/4 or 400/3 thread (can't remember which it is) for my common colors. What I have done for tangle control, is I put all the spools on the table and when they are connected, I shuffle the spools around to pre-twist them.

What size cam are using?

I am using a #28. I started with a #14 and it was not dense enough. Part number from Merrow is: 6-82-28

What other machines can do a merrow stitch? Can a serger do it?

There are a few people that have gotten the Brother 1030 serger to work, but it requires doing a satin border first to get the loft and density.
