When Minnie was talking about how she wanted to be Dwayne Johnson for a day and said "I want to know what that power feels like. Not the power I feel inside myself...but the power people acknowledge" I think my brain went to a heavenly place. She is so fucking incredible and as a woman hearing her say little insightful things like that just makes me adore her even more than I already do. Wonderful round table!

Thought I was the only one who picked up on that lol I was like Issa got that "Girl, bye" look on her face. Especially when America was saying that POC, Blacks and Latino/Latinas don't have the same opportunities and it's best for us to tell our our stories because nobody can tell it like us. Also, that it's time to start putting us in positon of privilege and power so it opens up more doors for people to follow basically get the whites outta here lol Then Emmy had to make it about her and say well raise your hand or ask. Like America said it's never that easy for those of us who aren't white.

I wish Emmy listened to what America was saying about opportunities for POC instead of talking over her. It's obviously more complicated than raising your hand and saying I can do it, I want to do it. especially when there no POC to raise their hand. She was too caught up in her personal story about being a woman I stead of listening to the Latina speaking on the realities. I wish someone followed up with, how many Latinas or Black women are on your sets? If there's no POC on your set how could they ask to a different opportunity? this is what intersectionality is about and it's ok to listen and think about it without giving a superficial answer.

  • @chrisg.5056

it was perfect symbolism; for decades, people of color have been trying to express their experiences and perspectives on things while white people have been speaking over them or silencing them with their own thoughts on matters that don't apply to them. emmy spoke about white women generally getting paid higher amounts than women of color, but when a latina tried expressing some situation that is unique to latinas, and other woc, emmy spoke over her & tried to push down what america was saying. seems like her "intersectional feminism" includes only mainstream issues.

It's not a racial thing, I just do it to be friendly, no matter the person's skin color. Should i not smile at black people I pass on the street? If KZread actually starts putting ads on non-monetized videos by creators who never asked for them, that just goes to show how greedy this corporation can be. This thought is disgusting. KZread is essentially making free money off small channels and not paying them a single penny. Yes, these are small channels, but since there's so many of them, KZread will still make a huge profit off of this new policy. I don't care if KZread hates us now, it must be said by someone. I urge to our subscribers that we spread the message to all creators, and urge KZread to immediately repeal this new policy. - Father

Apagando Las Luces, Not necessarily. There are many "WOC" in show business that have had a very cushy upbringing. In America, classism is a far bigger impediment to success than racism is. The two forms of repression often go hand in hand, by class discrimination is the much larger problem facing most people today. Oh, and guess what, many non-white people "speak over other peoples struggles". All. The. Damn. Time. Trying to find common ground through empathy is the only way to equality and fairness. Having experienced situations like this--where folks with privilege simply can't imagine why a person of color's experience would be different from their own--I am so thankful that America Ferrera was there to unpack everything the way she did. She should be commended for her emotional labor and probably paid for it too. #Shero #AmericaFerrera

Rossum didn’t get to direct episodes of her show because she’s white. She got to do it because she put in the work for several years and actively pursued the opportunity. I found everyone one of her comments to be completely fair, pragmatic, and insightful. By the way, Ferrera has also directed and probably has more money than anyone else at that table after being in multiple successful series and international blockbusters.

@Aeternus I will only say this to you. Either you can feel like a victim and keep complaining over the past, which does not accomplish anything except making you (yes only you) miserable. Or, you can accept the history, accept the situation you are born in and make you life better in whatever situation you are in. Look, life is not fair, its better we accept it and move on. Ask a white person and she will come up with her own list of problems. Nobody cares about the others, everybody cares about the self. Better we accept it and move on. Do not try to force your will on the world, go with the flow and make the most of whatever you have. You quality of life will be much better. You can call me whatever names you like, it doesn't matter to me, but the pain you feel in cursing me only hurts you. I hope you find peace!!

@@akanshashankar8589 that is especially simple for you to say coming from a place of privilege. You simply cannot understand nor empathize with a person of color and the obstacles that people of color have to endure. For you, you can say “it is what it is” because you don’t have to work twice as hard for and against things. Whether or not you feel you have privilege is irrelevant, you do, period. Your privilege lies in the perception of you from the outside looking in as well as in your ability to make the statements you have made on this thread. I loved when the conversation started to shift towards inequality. They kept bringing up the issues blacks face in the industry and were trying to direct it towards Issa. She knew better than to fall for that-it doesn't matter how much success you get in this world, if you're a minority, mainstream media will always try to categorize you by placing you in certain boxes. It seems as if everytime a black person garners success for themselves, everyone wants to focus on their experience as 'living black' rather than focus on their accomplishments. In my opinion, the most effective way to deliver a message to someone is to simply just be your true, authentic self.

She (Emmy) was not actually listening... She was stating what she believed and then proceeding to talk whenever she got the chance without engaging in the conversation that was being had and seeing what America was even talking about. Just as an example, America was talking about minority people getting opportunities in this business, and everyone was listening attentively and letting her speak, and then she proceeded to talk about her experience getting chances in Hollywood, as a minority woman. So then, it would have been 100% okay for any of the other women to comment and give their opinions on this topic (minority people in Hollywood) because that's what they are talking about and they have all most likely encountered this particular issue at some point even if they are not a minority, and the whole point of this round-table is to get lots of differing opinions on interesting issues and topics. However, for Emmy to then interrupt her and talk about her experience working in Hollywood and say the only thing holding her back in the past was her not getting up and going for it, and that was her only point, was ridiculous, chiefly because it had NOTHING to do with the topic at hand; minorities in Hollywood, although she said it as if it did.

Emmy Rossum at 55: 22, "I liked hearing . . . from . . . all of you." I cackled so hard. Really, Emmy? I didn't get that when you were injecting on America Ferrera every time she spoke.

Jazmin Rodriguez I think America was trying to hard to be political and follow the bandwagon now that every actress is speaking out about equal pay and female representation in media. Emmy probably knew that this girl was full of shit so she cut her off. No offense to all of them tho.

No, in that moment Emmy was pretty rude to America. America was giving her legitimate perspective on POC, Latinos, and women. Emmy interrupts America as if to downplay America's feelings and experience, and that's bothersome. Regardless if Emmy meant to or not, it looked bad. She gets to talk and no one is doing that to her.

Chelsea B fiona character is a little bit bitchy and mean .she's only nice to her brothers and sisters. Last season she doesn't really care anymore about them. Selfish with a strong personality look poor ,have no education, but try her best to take care of her siblings.shes smart Trying to better her life by starting her own business. But she's not a good person at all .for what she did to the reviewer, the lesbian girl ,to gus ,Toby the police officer ,fucked a married man (from high school ), she was egging veronica during her fight with Kevin s wife , after Debbie harmed her friends she kinda like it ,cheating with her boyfriend brother's in his own house, forgetten her boyfriend's meeting or calls when its family problems, fired some patsy's employees , she's always like :" I raised five kids iam a hero" true but that made her talk in a sort of angry way,she thinks she have the right to be upset because she had a hard life plus she seems so confident about it .....idk maybe So after all. we can relate, Emmy have some common point with fiona .

I wish America Ferrera talked more in this!!! Love her!!! But I understand that the conversation about minority people and Emmy's response to it might have thrown her off, because I might have got up and walked away, so that show's dedication

People really need to get on the damn page. You "raising your hand" and saying you want to do this is not fixing inequality. And THEN indirectly blaming woman for the lack of woman directors... just no.

It isn't at all. She just came off a little daffy here. Your willingness to quickly judge a person you know nothing about is what's sadly "typical" of people today.

FungusMossGnosis Emmy displayed typical... “well I’m white and I’ve never experienced that so it’s not real”. She constantly interrupted and talked over America and it was clear Minnie and Kathryn were getting annoyed by it as well as Issa. Emmy literally took the focus from the real inequalities women of color face in the industry and turned into an fake deep rant about herself somehow.

Being open to understanding where they themselves stand and what types of changes should happen in the hollywood world.
