old level, bruh. Some niuce guys did this back in 2013 with gopro 3 (c-mount mode) and gopro 4 (back-bone mod) And you still accept THIS little mod like a NEXT LEVEL?? You joking!

@gopro you should consider making a modular lens mount system for the next gen gopro. Like something you can twist off the original gopro wide angle and twist on lens adapters

This is definitely one of the cameras of all time.

That long lens seems outrageously impractical for it's intended purpose, but damn it does produce a beautiful image!

I think the takeaway is: if you can afford to go down expensive rabbit holes, one should certainly entertain the wild hare.

The raw/analog feeling of Van's videos is for sure a staple, even with a modern camera, it feels analog, love it

Logic is forced on most kids before they've had a chance to pursue 'irrational' ideas they put themselves into. We adults want work we can put ourselves into. Van smiles briefly sanding his handle. He's putting himself into his idea of a camera rig. His creation is not for anyone else. The cost is not important. He has the money. Creativity comes through a wide economic range. I wish this kind of work for all of us.

"This spirited man wants a camera he can like again, maybe even love..." Somebody introduce Van to the Fuji mirrorless line of cameras. That's a love affair waiting to happen.

Rationalists did this mod back in 2013, and this MyStiCs ArTiSt just grew up in 2023 to do the same, but present is a WOW-TECH!

Van was already working with Tom Sachs way before 2013 so it’s a moot point to argue about dates. There's something utterly delightful about a C-mount GoPro mod. It defeats the entire purpose of the thing if you try to use it the way it was intended, but what you get in return is a really fun, compact solution for specialty shots. I'm really looking forward to what you'll accomplish with this new configuration going forward, especially in the realm of other build videos.

My local TV station, LWT had Angenieux lenses on their bigass studio pedestal cameras. It had that word on the side and I was transfixed whenever they showed behind the scenes. I always wanted an LWT camera. I love this video. Thanks

I’ve definitely gone down this rabbit hole before. I never got as far as making a single purchase, but when I realized how much more versatile a GoPro could be with a few modifications then my curiosity got the best of me. Mind you this was back during the Hero 4 era. Thanks for actually being crazy enough to do it LOL

I can't tell you how many times I've worked on a project beyond the point of a "rational" stopping point. I get a small idea, often late in the project, that consumes me and I end up spending far more time and expense pursuing that one small detail than the project did up until that point. And it is an unwritten rule that this very detail is likely to go completely unappreciated by anyone else but me. I'm glad I'm not alone in this. Most enjoyable, Van.

wow amazing just sharing here, I just bought my canon R10 and a macro lens for my product shots, this was on a trip to San Diego (I just broke my macro lens for my previous T7i at work) and I think the feelings this tools gave us while studying them & using them are amazing and when you put them to work for they to pay themselves, its amazing. Amazing video, it remind me when i was trying all kind of augments" magnifying filters" before my first macro on my sony Alpha, best lens I ever bought, still working.

Olympus tg-6 with the digiscoping with Celestron humming bird is pinnacle of photography.

This whole camera rig is a gift to yourself and as someone once told me, a gift has to be nice, made and thoughtful and that extra 6 mm lens was a very nice surprise 😁 The question of course is, if a camera with these qualities could be store bought. I think you'll have a hard time finding that with the money you used.

My GoPro wish list: Could be a little bigger if it had to be. 20mm FF equivalent lens option. Ability to close focus. Ability to record all modes without becoming hot as the sun. Usable low light. Built in 3.5mm Built in cold shoe Built in 1/4 20 - no more fragile fork mounts or mods! If they could make a wide lens and a medium lens version that we could choose from, that would be cool too, I’d buy both.

So many things wrong with the ZV1F it's not even funny, but we're talking GoPro here, not Sony. Honestly maybe all I really want is for Canon to make the S110 again, but catered to video with better sound and a modern sensor.

Brilliant!

Add a matte box so you can use CP and ND filters in the car. Filming through the windshield , you need the CP to cut the glare. And the matte box flag is going to help with bokah when the sun is at just that high angle. ( I've been building out a 10yo Canon Vixia camcorder with a similar rig.)

It's so beautiful I want to cry, but I fear the tears will distort the stunning image, so I'm fighting it as fiercely as possible and operating a dehumidifier too.

Oh Van, I think I love you. Now I know the reason why I watch your videos and subscribe to your channel~ through your own actions, you remind me that it’s OK for me, to be me.. and therefore, I fear getting in front of the camera less now. I think you designed an absolutely beautiful camera there. Where most may see a question mark next to a dollar sign, I see the actual camera itself as being the art. Consequently, it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if it sold for a lot of money one day.

Really, really interesting! I'm planning to extend the sony zv-1, adding a battery pack, like those were done on DLSRs. A 21700 battery would be 4 times the capacity of the origional one, and both of them would have the same voltage. Just need to sacrifise a dummy battery.

That's a beautiful setup, at first I thought you had purchased Leica M Glass, haha, that would have been just crazy. The rig itself, absolutely aesthetically pleasing..

My philosophy about object vs. purpose. If the object is just for me and the lack of purpose does not hurt or disappoint or impact anyone else, then it satisfies me and thus has purpose.

At first I thought it was stupid, then I saw the beautiful results. GoPro should look into additional lenses.

Fascinating, never knew it was possible to buy modified GoPros.

I was inspired about 10 years ago from Zack Arias to glue a “teleconverter” for a point and shoot to the face of my Flip Video HD camera. It was awesome. I had a .5x wide angle and a 2X teleconverter on it. Did a fine job. I’ve wondered ever since then and finding the GoPro why nobody had come up with a similar setup. Seems like a no brained. Or even for GoPro to have a good “portrait length” adapter on it. They say there are more types of GoPros coming by the end of 2023… Hopefully something along the lines of this and what Zack had done fine their way to a production setup. Man that would be cool.
