Thousand Oaks -- Residential (WM/GI)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Waste Management - GI Industries and their awesome Mack LE/Amreps have continued to keep things entertaining in Thousand Oaks throughout 2019. I can easily say that these are my favorite garbage trucks on the road but unfortunately, only a few of the LNG ones remain and their days are limited. Hope you enjoy this compilation of some of my favorite drivers out of this yard, featuring 8 Macks and glimpses of 2 Peterbilts.
(0:00) - 101525: It was almost a year ago when I found out the crazy Gerry Medina was given this truck. 101525 is a former WM San Gabriel/Pomona Valley truck (old phone number still on the side), so it's extra special to me. I used to see this truck around Arcadia doing green waste so I'm glad I finally filmed it. It took a while to finally catch Gerry in this truck, but I am very happy I did! On this day back in August, he was running the truck harder than I have ever seen which made for some very entertaining video. I had never noticed before but the tailgate on this truck is only partially painted yellow too, so that was a nice little touch that makes it different from the other ones GI has.
(3:57) - 101494: This is another truck I've been wanting to catch from GI for a while. When GI repainted this truck, they used oil based paint and so even today, the paint looks very fresh on the body. So along with the chrome bumper and old WM signboard, it stands out as one of the nicer Octos that they have. Behind the wheel is Jose Santiago (1 of 3 brothers at GI). Him and his brothers all run these Macks very well - always love filming them.
(6:07) - 101584: On the most recent trip to GI in September, Mike and I were surprised to see Gerry running in yet another Octo! 101584 was previously driven by a veteran GI driver, and so it was kept it terrific shape until he got a new truck. Gerry got it when 101525 went down and he ran it extremely hard on this day! He knows we enjoy seeing him run trucks like this so he flipped a few extra lids for us! Always a great time seeing him!
(8:30) - 101630: Back at the beginning of August, Kevin and I saw this truck in one of the areas we usually see trucks during the late afternoon. We followed it to its route section and were surprised to see it doing greens! Turns out he was helping 105626 on the route, so that's why he was flipping lids. Behind the wheel is Alex Gutierrez, one of the relief drivers from Anderson. He's the same badass driver from Mike's MR/Able Body video. SUPER cool guy with 25 years of experience, who later told us he put the tag axle down on purpose because it makes the truck look cooler, "like a lowrider", on video haha! 101630 is another ex-WM San Gabriel/Pomona Valley truck. Unfortunately it's had its share of issues over the years and you'll notice here that it continuously shut off.
(12:04) - 102811: Here's GI's infamous 102811 again but with a different driver behind the wheel! Nacho recently retired, and so GI's awesome Jose Villa was training a new driver on the route. Jose runs all these Macks SUPER well and revs very hard. I was happy we caught him on this truck. Not sure if it still runs regularly anymore unfortunately.
(14:37) - 101466: This is a clip from 2016 of Gerry in his old truck, 101466. This clip is actually from the very first time I got to see Gerry on route! He used 66 for a couple years before the truck pretty much gave out and could no longer handle Thousand Oaks' many hills.
(15:13) - 106213: This was the very first Anderson Octo that GI painted. My brother and I stumbled upon it back in June and was surprised to see it in TO! Juan Diaz is a long time Anderson driver and currently can be found all over helping on different routes. The truck looked so good with the fresh paint!
(17:19) - 101334: Jose Santiago in the ex-Blue Barrel truck #101334. It's in rough shape (probably worse now, not even sure if they still have it) and none of the drivers like using it.
Thanks to all the awesome employees at WM/GI for making this video possible! And another big thanks to Bryan, Moises, Mike and Kevin for making some of these trips possible. One of my favorite videos I have made to this day and I hope you all enjoy too. Comments are much appreciated!

Ah man you never seem to fail with pumping out bangers!! 101525 and 101334 were my favorites 100%!! I noticed 101630 was shutting off a bit. Reminds me of when I first filmed 101521 and it was doing that. All in all this video was awesome!! All trucks were cool! Again great video bro! Always love watching a video from the master!!

It’s always a treat to see a video from the WM master himself. I’m surprised these Mack’s have lasted as long as they have, being beaten as hard as they are. Fantastic video, it’s great to see some Mack’s still hanging on out there on the West Coast.

Thanks! This yard loves their Macks. If they had the choice, they'd rather rebuild them from the ground up and use them for another 20 years but unfortunately, there are many factors as to why they don't do that.

I'm glad you were able to find Gerry in the ex Baldwin Park truck. He certainly did not disappoint and like how they added a GI stripe to it after it was sent from Baldwin Park. That sure was neat finding 101630 going up that steep hill and I'm glad Alex put the tag down for us, thank goodness it finished its route that day, I was not sure if it would. 102811 was awesome, it was definitely odd not seeing Nacho behind the wheel. I like how that truck operates but more impressive is the sound and how it sounds similar to the old diesel Wittke/Leach trucks Baldwin Park ran in the past. The paint job sure came out nice on the ex Anderson truck. Glad to see another GI video.

What was wrong with me for saying I don’t like amreps, this is by far the coolest video I’ve ever watched of them. 101584 is the definition of a mean revving beast, a straight piped LE doesn’t get any cooler than that! That first truck was pretty sweet too, with the white headlight trim...and signature GI stripes. If I ever went to CA, Thousand Oaks is probably the first place I’d visit, even the carts were awesome! Stellar video right here man, going straight to the favorites!

Your footage of 2811 turned out amazing, hopefully that truck starts to smoke more over time! Also that diesel repaint towards the end looks so fresh, hope those last a while! Amazing job in this one!

Absolutely fantastic work Aaron! I really love how all of GIs amreps have at least one thing that makes them all unique. It seems like not a single one of them is the same as another. Really enjoyed watching Gerry in all the different trucks. Man he rips! 102811 was by far my favorite. Super fun to watch (and listen) to him really floor it. And those minish Octos are super cool too. 101494 definitely wins the looks award. The classic WM logo paired with the GI stripe just looks fantastic. The chrome bumper was the cherry on top. 101584 also had a nice roar to it. Weird how 101630 kept shutting off. Hope it’s a fixable issue. Those ex Anderson trucks fit right in with the other mactos. A lot of blue bleeding through on 101466! Love to see that. Really impressive how well all these trucks run despite their age.All and all fantastic work. Keep up the great work Aaron!

Thank you!! Definitely keeps things interesting, I still LOVE going out there after like 20 trips already. Good to hear 102811 was so well received, I know a lot of people have filmed that truck so I was debating on even getting video - knew I had to when I saw Jose running it though! Agree 101494, still looks very fresh after all these years. They had another ASL up until earlier this year that was literally turning blue, I'll post video of it one of these days. Appreciate the comment!!!

These are some of my favorites Amreps out there and in all honesty some of my favorite ASL’s. Its great to see a video featuring so many well run ones. 102811 was hands down my favorite! The driver revving it so hard was awesome, and yet he didn’t seem to beat on the truck too hard. Plus those mini/full size trucks are super unique. I know you prefer how LNG Macks sound, but growing up with them, the diesel variants will always be my favorite. I find it interesting how the ex-Anderson truck runs different than almost all of the other ones here, it might just not be as word out but imo it didn’t run quite as good. Cool seeing that clip at 14:50ish, I remembered that one from Mikes vid a while back. Also cool to see the same driver in so many different trucks. Which truck is your favorite? Absolutely amazing video Aaron! Ill definitely be watching this again! Thanks for taking the time to film and upload this.

Definitely my favorite trucks around! Glad you enjoyed 102811, I ALMOST didn't film it just cause I have a decent amount of footage of it but when I saw how Jose was running it I knew I had to film! Haha I LOVE diesel Macks too man, the Cali ones are just not as good cause they all have DPFs on them. But growing up, we had some beast LE/Leach Curotto Cans and those were easily my favorite trucks. 102811 is about the closest you can get to a non-DPF Mack out here. Agree with what you said about the Anderson truck, I have yet to get footage of one running as smooth as the LNGs but some are becoming spares so I really hope to catch a GI driver in one of those. And 14:50 was actually from Alex's GI compilation! Glad you recognized that though ;-) First truck of the video (101525) is definitely my favorite, Gerry was running that thing super well that day and being a childhood truck made it extra special too. Thanks as always and I really appreciate the awesome comment!!!

Holy balls Aaron, this was one hell of a video! I watched all 18 minutes and 37 seconds and I can't say that I wasn't entertained by each truck. I figured out a secret to knowing when Gerry is doing your route.... the truck starts making spooky noises it really shouldn't be making. As with 584 and 466 - I was cringed every time I heard that grinding noise - a sound only an LNG Mack gives off as it gets closer to its grave. Nonetheless, all 3 trucks Gerry drove were extremely entertaining and gave the whole video that classic GI vibe. I also appreciated the simplicity of Jose's operating style in 494. Solid and efficient. 102811 was also a highlight for me - sounded like a goddamn Airbus engine and only Jesus knows if its still running after being run like that. I also love how GI has GI'd the hell out of 106213 - in other words not running it with that pansy autorev like Anderson did and manually revving that crap like real men. Great video once again, I'll be coming back soon to rewatch!

Thank you!! Hahaha I'd say that's pretty accurate about Gerry! Jose runs all trucks super well. The first time I met him was when he was running 101518 up in Simi and he made that thing scream! Agreed on what GI's done with 106213 and the other Anderson trucks - next trip out to the area will be dedicated to mainly those since a lot are running faster than I remember seeing. So that paired with the fresh paint job ought to make for some entertaining footage. Thanks as always - glad you liked the video!!

This video had my attention from the day you uploaded it. But couldn’t finish it until today. 101525 looked good, does he still use it? The completely white headlight casings threw me off at first. What’s up with those? 494 was on the slower side but the sound of that E7G certainly made up for it! Love the chrome bumper. So happy 584 is in good shape still, fun truck. Also love the exhaust flappers, so fun to watch when drivers floor it.Makes me wonder where 583 ended up. 630 sounds a bit tired lol reminds me of 499 when it would overheat. Love the arm and the sound on 811. Safe to say Jose wasn’t doing that truck any favors but that was fun! Sad 466 got replaced, that was one of my favorites from G.I. Is it still around? Holy smokes 106213 looks awesome. What year is that one? Nice seeing 334 again. Love that huge stain on the body from the exhaust. Classic lol. Have to find my way out to G.I as soon as I can for sure

Thanks! Yeah he's still in 101525 right now. Said it doesn't run as good anymore though. White headlight casings are replacements, not sure where they got them but they sure stand out. Think they replaced it a little over a year ago. Haha Jose ran 811 super well! 466 is gone now, I think August was when they finally took it away unless it's sitting up at the landfill still. 106213 would be a 2003 model! Glad they're keeping those around. Definitely worth a trip out there
