Austin St. John had been under Federal Investigation so he couldn't be in it since they shot in New Zealand and he's not allowed to leave the country right now or at the time they were filming.

Dont you wish we could have a TMNT special like this with the original live action movie-verse? That would be amazing! Obviously it would be so much more expensive with those amazing Jim Henson style suits but it would be epic.

Well it might be tricky because Raph has two or three vas in the films and Splinter’s va is Kevin Nash aka og Elmo who resigned from that role due to allegations he got so I don’t think it be a good idea to bring him on board. Now the 2007 CGI movie is hinted to be in the same universe and though Mako has passed away, he has a professional sound alike who can take up the role in his place like what was done for Iroh and Aku.

@@Goleon Sure there would have to be exceptions made and such but just an excuse to get those versions of the turtles on the big or small screen again would be really neat. Especially if they would bring a Jim Henson style interpretation of characters like Krang or Bebop and Rocksteady while keeping that gritty tone. That alone would be worth it’s existence.

I liked the special a lot. I wasn't too critical of it but one thing I will definitely be on your side about is the way they just perpetually insisted on keeping it kid friendly. I watched it with a group of friends premiere night and after it was over, I told them my big criticism was not even TRYING to age it up in the slightest. Like you said, they should have taken a page from the Shattered Grid comics which grew with the audience.

If they wanted to do this right, they should've filmed in the original locations from MMPR to really hit those nostalgia bits. They could've gotten Austin and Amy if it was filmed in CA. I've often wondered what the story would've been like had they been able to get everyone back.

very nice to hear your thoughts I didn't watch it because so many said so many positive things but it just didn't look that good to me and I didn't want to walk away being one of the few that didn't like it but after hearing your more grounded take I think I do want to give it a chance after all since I do think there are things in it I would enjoy so thanks for this video!

As someone else said, Austin's legal issues kept him from leaving the country, AJJ wanted them to use David Yosts script for it, they said no, she said no and Hasbro told JDF something like they don't need him to keep coming back to the franchise, so he turned down the 30th. That all said, if you want more Billy and Zordon stuff watch Cosmic Fury. It's the 3rd season with the Dino Fury cast, but it's a very different season than the previous ones. Not monster of the week, not entirely on Earth for the first time since Lost Galaxy it was just all around a solid season.

I thought it was absolutely great, but not by any means flawless. I would have loved to see Amy Jo Johnson in it. i think I mostly just enjoyed seeing Billy and Zach again. Some off story beats, but overall I really enjoyed it.

It felt half complete, they needed a coda or more scenes maybe going through the whole time passage, maybe they shouldn't have Rita but a new threat or something.......I did love how when Rocky wasn't here, Steve Cardaras I think is his name, his Ranger from had him lose about 50-60 pounds so that was a bit fun to see. It was exactly what it needed to be built left me wanting more of his new era

Def has that cheesy feeling of PR shows down... overall its a mixed thing. I like some things like the focus on Billy after how he was treated on the original show & the tribute to Trini/ Thuy Trang was along time coming (tho we should always strive to remember her legacy💛) and the bad is basically what you said aha. As far as the franchise goes ive basically checked out of the shows and mainly focus on what Boom Studios is doing, as an adult its everything i wish the franchise was nowadays (or at least a separate North American entity)

Once and Always was good but yeah need some more back story since Adam and Aisha could of morphed too if only ASJ was there and Amy Jo and JDF the beginning feels awkward when Trini died just re dubbed voices

It really bugs me when people say that this special needed the original red and pink ranger and so on. Austin is still under investigation for possible insurance fraud and he can’t even leave his home state without police escorts, so there’s no way he could leave the country. And Amy Jo Johnson and JDF both said no to returning for this special. So it’s either they use the other rangers or we would have no special. Which would you prefer?

  • @WalterCulture

I'm glad they did something, but presenting the story the way they did was going to cause issues from the jump. There were ways around this without pretending like the missing characters were in it when they weren't.

  • @change023

Honestly I would have preferred no special and just have Walter and David lead some team in a new season (like they are doing/did actually with David) instead of having a 30th anniversary special which was …fine. Or carry it on in the comics the way Amy Jo is doing. Might be in the minority on that but 🤷🏻‍♂️

exactly so many people are mad that it did not, had ASJ, JDF, and Amy Jo, heck a lot of people left in the middle of two when the other three left, they didn't even give the show a chance after that.

And comparing it to the Boom Studios comics is a losing battle since of course the comics are better, but the comics have completely different rules. The comic canon has the Mighty Morphin team still in their high school days, whereas this special is part of the canon of the show. It literally takes place in 2023, setting the first MMPR season in 1993, as it aired. So it’s not like they could do things exactly like the comics. I really don’t know what point you were trying to make with that part of the review. It sounds like you were confused about what other ranger teams because you haven’t watched those seasons. Again, this is part of the same canon that even has its modern series made for the Target audience; KIDS. Maybe now that Cosmic Fury finished things off, the reboot will be a little more mature and have more emotion, but we’ll see. And if you want more focus on Tommy, watch the 25th anniversary episode or Dino Thunder. Again, I really don’t get what the point was in bringing that up, but it really sounds like you went in with expectations that just weren’t going to happen. Like, do you even know that Cosmic Fury follows up on this?

  • @WalterCulture

    @WalterCulture

    8 ай бұрын

I really didn't have high expectations. I was just going off what was presented and comparing it to some other more recent interpretations of the same characters. I don't think that's out of line. Again, I don't hate it at all.
