Thoroughbred horses rescued from the brink before winter onslaught

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Your support will help us to continue to meet the complex needs of thousands of horses around the world each year, please donate today - bit.ly/2ZJGAIy
A herd of 15 Thoroughbred horses whose needs weren’t being met has been rescued from a site in Devon by World Horse Welfare. The horses - which had been left at the farm following an eviction - were beginning to lose weight as winter approached. The landowner was able to use the Control of Horses Act, which allowed the horses to be signed over to World Horse Welfare and thankfully - despite many of the horses not being used to being handled - their round-up and removal to two World Horse Welfare Rescue and Rehoming Centres was relatively straightforward.
The costs for such an operation, however, are significant, and the horse’s removal to World Horse Welfare’s centres is just the beginning of a lengthy and expensive process, with each horse being carefully looked after, assessed and rehabilitated by the charity for many months before, hopefully, being ready to rehome.

You've got to wonder why the various bureaucrats - local government, local law enforcement, the landowner, local politicians - all managed to leave the horses to suffer until the last minute. A few days before the first fierce storm of winter, they can be bothered to get the poor horses out. They should be called out on that. I'm glad World Horse Welfare is helping the animals.

So beautiful and look like gentle giants. I dream of having rescue horses again. People have NO clue how lucky they are to have such beautiful animals like these and they just take advantage of them . I would have loved to go to that farm everyday to take care of them and train them to just love humans. It is really not that hard to gain the trust of a horse or pony. Just being with them and talking to them with some treats gets to there hearts. It is all about taking your time.

Thank you rescuers for saving all these beauties; it is horrible to think the suffering they would have gone through with winter coming and no food, water and shelter. They would have been skeletons. Thank goodness for sanctuaries and rescue people who love these horses and take the time and goodwill to save them. Can't wait to see how they look in few weeks. Thank you Hall Farm!

Those poor sweethearts!!! I'm so glad you got a hold of them and that they are now safe. It's terrible to see these beautiful animals in this condition or worse. They deserve a wonderful life, love and happiness. I'm from America, and we too have a similar program which rescues all types of animals including horses of all types. They all deserve to be treated well and find a wonderful forever home. Thank you for helping these beautiful animals. I'm an animal lover and wish I could devote as much time to helping rescue them, especially in person.

Fantastic work! And so gently and kindly done. Thank you! I don't know if your team is aware (though I would imagine so given your specialists involved) but horses' night vision is instantly messed up by white light and it takes quite a long time before it recovers. If you were to cover all lights with clear red plastic or film it would make it much easier to unload them in the dark.

How is it a country like the UK which I Always believed revered the Equine population lovingly can abuse these beautiful animals so horrendously? I know that comments reply will think me terribly naive to think this, it's just so difficult to believe that Any of God's creatures can be so abused without a flick of concern! Thier outside the court attitude is appalling! No care ,no remorse for the neglect! I would say the courts are far to easy on sentencing terms! These monsters should spend YEARS ,NOT DAYS,/ MONTHS IN JAIL The fines are very high but could be higher! Thank you WHW for your Hero Help!❤️🐴😥🙏🇬🇧❤️🇺🇲

I’d be having a little cupcake stall at all the flash Polo events and putting up many many signs asking for donations. Do the abusers face charges and fines from the courts and authorities? Could you imagine when police find human children in these cases of severe neglect and just heartlessness, the person responsible is punished to the full extent of the law. Do these people face the same punishment for animals? 😢

I am not a horse person, but I do not understand how a horse can be lost or have background unknown. They are big animals. You can't just turn them loose somewhere and hope they survive, like so many people do with cats and dogs. If people see horses scrounging around garbage bins, it's not going to be ignored.

Looks like some might need dental work, especially from looking how they chew on the hay.. Remember how it looked, when someone hardhanded had ridden my horse, and made her mouth sore.. She chewed like some of the horses here for a couple of days, and I had to ride in the halter until it healed up.
