Thoros of Myr: Harbinger of Resurrection | Character Analysis | ASOIAF

The many deities of Westeros and the Free Cities were reserved, drawn back into passive roles while their followers forged lives in the world below. Even the most pious men questioned their own faith, believing their prayers were going unanswered by the gods they so heartily worshipped. But of all the gods and goddesses, of all the mythic figures of ancient legend and folklore, one appeared more active in his works. R’hllor, the Lord of Light, blessed his followers with visions, and even gave one man the power of resurrection. This man was Thoros of Myr. Hello everyone, and welcome back to Exploring Fiction. The pink priest wasn’t known for his piety or religious fervor, but Thoros was blessed with this gift nonetheless, and he used it to keep his leader, the lightning lord Beric Dondarrion, alive, even after suffering countless mortal wounds. Thoros hardly seemed worthy of such powers, even though he was a red priest, but he was chosen anyway. He shone as an example of the Lord of Light’s power and will, and proved that even men of weak resolve can be of worth to those above. So, who exactly is Thoros of Myr, and why is he such an interesting character? Let’s explore…

Maybe R’hllor is a partygoer, but the followers misconstrued his words. Sadly, Thoros’ achievements weren’t exposed to the other followers.

What's interesting to me is that the Seven seems to have almost no proof of its existence and nothing magical and R'hllor seems to have the most of both

I agree. The Seven definitely just feel like placeholders in the context of the story

No matter the topic, I always seem to learn something new in your commentaries. Your scripts are always so well done! (You have a talent for the written word, and I do plan to check out your own works of fiction.) I was wondering if you think perhaps R'hllor gives clearer visions to Thoros than to Melisandre, or if he's just better at interpreting them?

First of all, thank you so much! Right now, the only fiction I have available is in the form of a few short stories on my website, but I definitely have plans for the future. And to address your question, I personally think Thoros might just be a better interpreter. It just seems like Melisandre is either overconfident and wrong, or not confident and hiding that fact by promoting the incorrect interpretation. That's just my thought.

All you would need to do is read the books he's just summarizing it in his own words

FIRST TO TAKE THE BLACK! TV show Beric’s mortal wounds weren’t ‘countless.’ Thoros brought him back 6 times. Then Beric died at the Battle of Winterfell, so he had 7 mortal wounds.
