    It was really cool how Odin (Anthony Hopkins) made it a point not only to notice Loki's presence in Norway, but said " I love you my SONS." The look on Loki's face when he heard it....

    every Marvel movie kinda alludes to making homage to Jack Kirby's artwork, this movie? I'm not going to argue that Masters of the Universe wasn't a trainwreck, because it was. And that doesn't mean that it can't be done right. Just like Batman came to embrace the larger implications of a masked vigilante, so can MOTU embrace the larger implications of a realm where powers like those possessed by Prince Adam and Skeletor exist. It takes a good writer and a lot of forethought to take a cartoon property like He-Man and turn it into a viable movie but it's not impossible. For example, you can flesh out the larger implications of Cringer. He could be shown as a gentle soul with a huge capacity for compassion. Not so much a coward as one who detests violence, and resents it when He-Man transforms him into Battlecat. Perhaps we can make Skeletor a somewhat sympathetic creature, a creature who feels like he has a genuine claim to the throne of Eternia, a claim that the gentle Cringer doesn't think is wholly wrong. But only when Skeletor crosses the Moral Event Horizon does Cringer see that Skeletor must be defeated, as someone who has become an extremist in his goals. Thus do we see growth for all characters. I'm not sure how to make a Plastic Man movie though. The character was always something of a goof so it would have to be campy and fun. Maybe it could ultimately be a love story, as many of the best movies are. Let's see: lovable but unreliable goof loses girl who sees him, rightly, as a dead end. Goof gets powers and defeats Big Bad with powers while making quips, and goof wins girl back by showing he can be responsible. They kiss, roll credits.

    This is one of those films that will stand repeat viewing. There's so much goodness in it. I literally was grinning and laughing from the top to the bottom of this film. It's just joyous. It is very funny and I think Marvel have pitched it deliberately so because the Thor franchise needs re-energising and also, for those complaining about Marvel making comedies, Smith is right- things are going to get a lot more serious with Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War. Either way, Ragnarok is a brilliant crowd pleaser and it's definitely going to be taking my money again.

    Denni Wintyr, This blew me away. That and the people at Mavel knew what info was the most important to keep from us. If someone complains there’s no stakes in a Marvel movie they’re on crack. Death and destruction felt real here. Nothing will ever be the same and Marvel would be wise to keep it this way.

  • @magnamic5614

    @magnamic5614

    6 жыл бұрын

    Amy J. Delevingne, Nope, I respectfully disagree. Marvel does not have this problem you’re talking about. People like to complain about it sure but that’s because people love to try and find fault somewhere. If it was really, I mean REALLY a problem then their sales would reflect that. Look at Green Lantern for example, that movie tried this and failed but that’s because all the elements didn’t come together correctly and Taika Waititi was in that damn movie too! Marvel does not have a problem. People have a problem with Marvel and their continued success streak. When you’re on top where else is there to go but down? And someone wants to be that person to find fault to bring about said downfall. It will happen. This amount of success is unheard of for one newly formed studio. Anyway, the movie is great. The jokes are memorable and funny. It’s a movie of pure childhood dreams come true. Also, haters.

  • @magnamic5614

    @magnamic5614

    6 жыл бұрын

    Amy J. Delevingne, I agree he doesn’t but that’s because he knows what a beautiful time we are in for these types of movies. Let’s be honest here, it could be much, much worse. Studios are now taking notes from the comic book genre. Stars are now beginning to really embrace the craziness that is comics and trying to blend in. People now understand when I talk about Captain America, Falcon, Cyborg, Green Arrow, Green Lantern and these are really great attributes coming from an area that people used to look down on. I remember a while back a friend of mine telling me the comic scene will never take over Hollywood or come close to the respect or numbers Star Wars would. Well, never say never. Kevin is right to embrace all this and rarely find fault. He’s enjoying what could have turned into a hot pile of pure garbage year after year. Instead we are getting closer and closer to perfection in the comic movie scene. Sure it’s not for everyone and I’m fine with that but no one can sit here and tell me all these movies aren’t great. The comic book movie genre never needs to be a Blade Runner or Inception, they can be, but they don’t have to be. They’re fantastical first and foremost. Embrace it. Don’t push it away. We should never forget that. Kevin sure hasn’t.

    And why would someone apply Kirby's art style in relation to the world (Sakaar) which he didn't create? Sakaar was designed by Carlo Pagulayan and Aaron Lopresti. Maybe instead apply Kirby's art style to the characters and worlds which he did create - Asgard, Thor, Loki, Surtur, what else? Why not make them look like how Kirby envisioned them? This movie was a joke. Waititi is a jester.

    Yup! We use to get superhero films within 2 or 3 years decades ago. Not multiple films every year from; Marvel/Disney and Warners and 20th Century Fox, Universal Studios, Pixar even?! We're spoiled rotten these days and i love it. This is what my generation talked about in the school playgrounds as kids. Now that we have'em, most of us are working 5 or 6 days a week with tons of responsibilities with barely time to squeeze the good stuff in. Life cruel sometimes, lol. Cheers man, so agreed with you!

    Pat yourself on the back @Kevin Smith. Chris Hemsworth has credited you as being one of the reasons for the change in tone from (IMO the very dreary) Thor: The Dark World, to (I know it's been overused, but FUN best describes this movie) Thor: Ragnarok. With Thor: The Dark World holding the worst Rotten Tomatoes score (66%) out of all 17 MCU movies, Thor: Ragnarok was odds on going to be an improvement. Very few would have picked Thor: Ragnarok to hold the second best RT score (currently 93%) out of the entire MCU franchise.

And it wasn't just Thor but loki and hulk and val and the collector and most of all Krog. Some deadpool joked and gotg were hit and miss. i didn't find any missing in Thor

    Banner jumping out of the spaceship, failing to Hulk out, and splattering on the rainbow bridge comes to mind...but for me it was the feel of the whole movie that was more fun and funny that GOTG. I love both Guardians movies and they're a little more deep and emotional, but Ragnarok was more fun throughout, kinda like Deadpool. But I liked the comedy style in Ragnarok more than DP with all the fourth-wall breaking and pop culture references. Thinking about it now, it's like Guardians style jokes (situational humor and character interactions) in a Deadpool style tone (fun and self-aware).

  • @colinferguson7400

    Yeah. Deadpool is like Family Guy style comedy, where it's irreverent and fourth-wall breaking and shocking and funny the first time but doesn't really hold up on multiple viewings. Some of the jokes in Deadpool are a little groan-inducing, like the Rosie O'Donnell reference.

    The difference between Ragnarok and The Avengers was that Ragnarok had jokes that made sense and fit. The "he was adopted" nonsense from The Avengers had nothing to do with the fact that Loki was a god and was killing people. Nobody cared about their actual relation in that situation.

    I agree that Thor gets too much crap for being the "boring" Avenger, and that he had some legit funny bits in the Avengers film. I do wish they'd let him lean a little harder on the old-timey speak like from the comics, so the audience can watch him slowly adapt to normal speak over time. Yes, the first Thor had several comedic moments, but most of them were concentrated on Jane Foster's dumbass friend who added literally nothing to the story.

    *Spoilers here* I know there were sooo many good parts in the movie that is was hard to add into a review but I found delight in the nod to Gene Wilder with the Charlie and the Chocolate factory scene as Thor was coming to meet the Grand Master. Also, the dropping of Banner to the ground I also thought was a bit of a sentiment to him no longer having control over Hulk and showing us that as the universe progresses the ability to control each other becomes less and less. Another gem that was missed is the question to the mythology of Ragnarok in that it is part of a cycle that happens with Asgard. With certain nods to the Norse mythos, the destruction of Asgard forces a reset or rebirth of the realm. The beginning of the end result as we had seen was Thor begin to take on the physical characteristics of Odin as he becomes Odin in the rebirth. Obviously Loki stole the tesseract and Thanos' ship intercepts them at the post credits placing another of the gemstones in his reach setting up the infinity war story line. Finally, it is a bit of a stretch but with the wisdom share of Dr. Strange in the beginning (and with the Black Panther showing up, Tony Stark sticking around and Dr. Strange appearing) I have long thought that the next phase in the marvel universe would include the Illuminati and I think with this we had just witnessed the first scene of this having Dr. Strange watching over the world and showing Thor the way to Odin. Some interesting moments in the film to also take in and totally agree, one of the best Marvel films to date. Justice League has a mountain in front of them. I only hope they can deliver the goods as well...

    Taika Waititi: Tie-ka Why-tee-tee. He has a gift for getting you back in touch with the kid that you were. You see it permeating throughout all of his films. He knows how to balance the heavy with humour without ignoring the former. What I love about the humour he infuses in his films is it usually picks fun of his characters without being degrading. He's just wonderful.

    Hey guys! I always enjoy your reviews and this review was no different! I feel exactly like the two of you. This movie was freaking awesome and worth seeing multiple times in the theatre! After Guardians 2 ROCKED the world I had a great feeling that Thor would pack a huge punch, but honestly after watching Spider-Man Homecoming I didn't want to hold my breath! Luckily, Marvel has yet again shown us they will do absolutely anything to keep outdoing each previous release in this amazing decade long saga. Frankly, I won't be surprised if Black Panther breaks the box office records Thor Ragnarok is going to set, and then Infinity Wars after that! HOW LUCKY ARE WE to live in this incredibly talented time to witness MARVEL in all of its greatness? To Fatman and Batman... will MARVELS achievements from Ironman til now EVER be outdone? Thanks for your reviews fella's, can't wait for the JUSTICE LEAGUE in a few days! Much love from the D!

Like Cap 2 was a political thriller, Ant-Man being a heist, Guardian's Vol 1 was about space and Vol 2 was about family!! Thor 3 is the best one out of the trilogy. Marvel took a chance of doing something DIFFERENT other than doing the same old Thor movies that many people complained about bitched about Bravo Marvel for taking a chance and succeeding!

    There was a year in the 80s -- maybe 1984 -- when SO MANY classic movies came out. It was just an amazing year for movies, and a lot of movies that people think of as "classic 80s movies" are actually all from a single year. I think, looking at your post, Aaron, that maybe 2017 is another amazing year for movies. Maybe not "serious Grammy winning bio-pics" or something, but just... this year will be fondly remembered.

    You guys said how even Hopkins was having a bit of fun... when he (Loki in disguise) sees Thor walking towards him while talking to some asgardians after the play, he’s like “oh shit”... I cracked up.

    I follow you on instagram and I like what you post when hemworth was explaining about his hair being cut. I went and saw this afternoon and love, love, love it. It was funny and my husband laugh at one point he was crying. It was a great movie so much fun and beautiful at the same time. can't wait for the rest of the marvel to come together.

    I disagree slightly, there was a threat to Earth in the form of Hela attempting to cross the rainbow bridge and destroy the nine realms.

    What a bummer to be a DC fanboy and it's your job to hate a movie like this. That's the saddest thing I can think of.

    so true, they hate on it "just cause" i cant wait for JL to come out i wonder that the fanboys will think of it. if its bad they will still say its great, if its good they cant admit that its because of Joss W. because then it validates the marvel films and disqualifies snyder as a filmmaker. these are interesting times we live in haha

    Just like Silverknight. That's their job...to hate movies like Thor 3 and say crazy things like "this was Marvel's worst year". That's amazing. Being a fanboy apparently comes with that crappy responsibility to hate everything the "other team" does. It's going to be fascinating to watch them try to find some nitpick "flaws" in Thor 3.

    Great job "mans". Love watching your reviews especially after I have seen the movie myself. Coming out of Thor 3 I wanted to go right back in and watch it again. I have not had that since the final bit of Rogue One. Prior to that maybe the closest was Hot Tub Time Machine.

    The intro battle with Surtur was worth the cost of admission alone- and it was just the beginning! As a 48 year old true believer, I loved how the colorful and futuristic panels of 1970’s comic books were brought to life. And was Hela sexy or what?!

    I so love your reviews! Some films are simply meant to be enjoyed not nick-picked to death. Thanks for reigniting my enthusiasm. I loved the film and left feeling that I just drank a pitcher full of tropical fruit Kool-aid (which is my favorite); I was refreshed.
