'Thor' Predicts Lighting in Dublin
DUBLIN (Adam Slinger) - It doesn't just detect lightning, it predicts it.
Thor Guard is installed at several parks in Dublin and near Muirfield Village Golf Club, according to the company.
The systems measure the electrostatic fields in the atmosphere and on the ground and can predict a lightning strike within two miles, the product manufacturers told ABC6/FOX28. It can anticipate a lightning strike up to twenty minutes in advance.
"The difference is that we used to be detecting lightning and now we're predicting," Fred Hahn, director of parks and open space said in a press release in April of 2012. "We aren't waiting until the first strike of lightning to warn patrons. They will know in advance."
Once a possible lightning strike is predicted, a horn will sound for 15 seconds, followed by a continuous flashing strobe light until the threat has subsided.

Thor Guard is a lifesaver its warn everybody seek shelter. Best warning system when I was at the park the lighting warning system safe me doing serve storm.
Wouldn't thunder be enough of an audible warning?

Useless waste of money. Look at the weather forecast, lightning and storm are predicted that way, and when lightning flashes you hear thunder, thunder is enough of a warning sound.
