3:27 The realization 🥺😭
I met the “man I was meant to marry” (as I referred to him) when I was 16 & he was 20. We both dated individuals and the timing was never right. I found out he married his girlfriend, she was pregnant. It crushed me. I got married, had two children, got divorced. I found out he got divorced, I reached out to him. He was dating someone for a few years. I knew of her, she was a great person. I felt if he didn’t end up with me, I’m glad he found someone like her. A few years later, I found him on social media and sent him a message asking how he & his son were. He messaged back “of all people I’ve ever wanted to hear from, ive wanted to hear from you. Here’s my number.” We met in 1994 & started dating in 2009. We got married in 2018 & became grandparents in 2019. Fairytales do come true.

Both great videos. Thomas Rhett gets some well-deserved shit for moving the boundaries of country to unsavory places ("T-Shirt", "Vacation") but credit where credit's due on some of his ballads like this one and the "Remember You Young" follow-up. He hits you where you live like country music should on both songs/videos.

Don't encourage Billy to watch that one, I don't want to see him cry.
It’s the what if about him and his wife. They dated in hs and broke up but he still loved her. She was engaged to someone else and her dad told him to tell her how he felt. She ended her engagement and they ended up together. But this is his take on the other possible outcome.

I met the love of my life when I was a shy, insecure 14 year old. My high school sweetheart. We had a bumpy road and she was the one that got away. I had to watch her marry someone else, though I was not allowed at the wedding. I was never able to get over her. She actually almost left on her wedding day to come find me, but didn’t. Some years passed, they split up, we both went through tough times apart, and (plot twist) now we’ve been married for 2 years and have a son together. I never stopped loving her since the day I first laid my eyes on her.

Now THAT is a GREAT STORY!!
Mans said “ hold up what did I miss in a couple of seconds “
The beauty of country music is that it tells stories of life situations that people can relate to. This song speaks to something many people have experienced, wanting something more from someone who doesn't have the same feelings for you, so you have to let them go.
This song packs a punch and gets me every time. It's a heavy hitter.
I set in a church and watched my sister's best friend get married, she knew how I felt. Years went by without seeing her again. Fast forward to my sister's 40th birthday party, she happened to be in town, my sister called me over and the moment our eyes meet I burst into tears, she put her hand over her mouth just like the end of this video. She has had a good life and a good family and I am trully happy for her, but somethings the heart never will never let go.
I’ve been married for 20 years to my high school sweetheart. We met when I was 13. Unfortunately, while we were always great friends, it was a bumpy road. I married my first husband on my current husbands birthday, and he was there, wishing it was him. My first husband was an awful man who was abusive. We were only married a couple of years. After my divorce my husband now stated that he would always love me and would wait for me until I was ready to date again. Luckily I felt the same and we are still madly in love after all these years.

He asks if someone got away. Yes. I’ve known her & her family for 13 years. Always something that got in the way. But I’ll give her credit she woke something up in me. I loved her the moment I saw her but I didn’t KNOW her. I saw the hell her ex put her through. Every fiber of me wanted to go wwe on her ex. But I was a coward then. I didn’t step up. Until something said step up or step aside. I forced my self to change. We were roommates once. When I first met her she automatically shot me down as a possible boyfriend. But since I changed her only issue was it could be awkward if we were roommates but the relationship didn’t work out.
Story continues with his song remeber you young. Gotta get closure lol

I love this song. Been married almost 51 years. Met him when I was 15. Married at 18.
currently married to my childhood best friend, parents met when they were pregnant with us and became friends. we were born 2 months apart and grew up the first 7 years together, then she had to move 850 miles away to live with her dad. we were separated for 9 years and once i got my first phone i got her number from her mom and 2 month later she moved back, have been together for almost 7 years and married for almost 4 of them. we are 25.
I thought I’d lost my forever, we were in high school together and rode the bus together. I had to move when I got sick and had to drop out. Flash forward a few years, I went into a nursing home/rehabilitation center after going into kidney failure. When I got out I moved in with my best friend. Her ex’s brother was her roommate at the time, who turned out to be this guys best friend. We got together November 30th three years ago and are now engaged! So happy it turned out this way instead of before, we would have never worked before!
This song literally speaks volumes to me. Theres always going to be the one that got away. The second verse literally tells the story of my early 20's.
My husband and I have been together since we were 13 years old (10 years ago). We have been married for 6 months but he is my best friend and we will be together for many more years.
I met this guy in 6th grade, I was immediately so in love with him, but by the time either of us said anything I had moved across the US. I went down to visit family and we went on a date, but had to go back home. Fast forward years later, I got married, then divorced, then I got remarried and he got married and divorced. I told him how I'd felt all those years and he admitted he had felt the same, but neither of us knew. So from @ 12 to 29 we were great friends and had this love/admiration for each other that the other didn't know about. We had planned to see each other and do a big party for him, myself and our other friend because we were all turning 30 that year. When I did see him again, he passed away 9 days later, 8 months before his 30th birthday. He told me a few weeks before that, that in our next life he'd pay more attention, he'd ask me out, and to this day I wonder if he somehow knew what was coming.
I am married to my HS sweetheart, I started dating him my sophomore year, we have been together 19 years.
I love your reaction to this song! I married my Sweetheart right out of basic training, I was 19 and he was 21. Greatest man I've ever known and we were just getting ready to celebrate our 40th anniversary when he suddenly and unexpectedly passed away! He was in the Gulf War and was so proud to be a retired disabled veteran and I was so proud of him! Let me say to you that I thank you BillyYouSoCrazy for your service and my hats off to you your family because I know how hard it is for the families left behind! I’ve known her for going on 12 years. She was there for me when grandpa passed. That hurt a lot. But her telling me she’s engaged. Truth is I love her but I can’t watch her get married. I’ve done it once, I won’t do it again.
Popped up on my recommended, but that second line, “I remember the night when I almost kissed her, I kinda freaked out we’d been friends for forever, and I’d always wondered if she felt the same way”. I had given away a note to my best friend basically confessing my love for her. We were gonna talk about it when she got back from the trip and it was moving towards us being together. She ended up passing away on the trip. This song hits different and makes me cry everytkme

Billy, I started dating my husband (unfortunately now deceased) when I was 15 years old. We were married for almost 41 years when he passed away. He was the love of my life and he's been gone for almost 16 years now. Of course, both me and my son still miss him.
He ended up marrying her. It is a true story.

I have a female best friend that I had huge feelings for, but I waited too long and she found someone else and everytime I see them together it still hurts.

Started dating my husband when I was 15, got married when I turned 20, I’ll be 29 this year. He’s truly my best friend and I’m so thankful we made it through everything. Sometimes when you grow up with someone you either grow apart or grow together and we grew together thankfully❤️
My parents are high school sweethearts and today’s is there anniversary for like 26 years or something like that
I didn't have a high school sweetheart, I was too into cars. I am my wife's high school sweetheart, we met when she was a sophomore and I had just graduated (I was still 17). We've been together 33 years, married 30 years.
Happily Married to my high school sweetheart! Four years today! Two beautiful children.. can’t wait to see our future and see what we and our children will become! 💙

Been happily married to my best friend I found at 17, married at 18 years old now hitting 34 years old and still married 15 years later to my best friend!
After 3yrs my first Jr. High/HS sweet heart an I parted ways. Had a tough time, especially in highschool. Thoughts of suicide was on the horizon constantly, as I cried daily whenever I'm alone. But my friends got me through it. 3yrs is a long time in that stage of life. I prayed to God to please bless me with someone who'd do me better. I transferred schools. An I met someone who I've been with since Senior year in 2003. Still together to this day, 18yrs strong. Although the pain from my 1st never goes away. But life gets easier when you spend it with the one who'd love you 100%.
If you’re stuck thinking about the cliffhanger at the end, GO WATCH THE “REMEMBER YOU YOUNG” VIDEO! It gives the answer you are looking for.

this song is actually abt him and his wife. they were high school sweethearts and broke up. then they were engaged to different people and ended up breaking up w them and now they are married to each other w 2 kids. also my boyfriend and I are seniors in high school. we are both each others first boyfriend/girlfriend. we have been together for a little over 3 years. started dating when he was 14 & I was 15. now 17 & 18. he may propose next year (or so he says) and I'm praying it works out ❤ different colleges (but only like 45 mins away from each other). just cant imagine being w anyone else
I am actually married to my childhood sweetheart. I moved away our 3rd grade summer, but not before I told her I would marry her for real one day. I saw her again in college and I asked her to marry me on Christmas Eve. We have been married 21 years and I love her more everyday!
I'm still a senior in high school but I've loved this girl since freshman year and she is my best friend and has admitted to having feelings for me for years but she is with someone else now because I told her that instead of being stressed over a decision to just go with him and be happy so I actually ended up breaking my own heart. I feel this song on every level.
This song has always touched home for me and my wife. My wife and I have known each other since 2nd grade. Dated throughout high school And was a very tough ordeal. But the love we shared brought us together. Happily married and 2 beautiful kids to go along with. Love this song.

Yes I can relate to this because I’ve been through it twice now. It still rips at me when I think about what I gave up on
Married mine 12 yrs ago but we have been together since 14&15. My best friend and so glad to be together for all these years.
My parents are high school sweet hearts, they dropped out together and then later on got their GED’s together. They have been together 21 years and married 20 years
This song and the story within it is very close to what my life has been. Grew up and had been best friends with a guy our whole lives. And for years I harbored my feelings. Watched him have kids and failed relationships. Things happened between us one night, but that was it. A year later, I finally got up the courage to tell him only to get sucker punched in the gut with him telling me he didn't feel the same. And now he's married to one of his baby's mother.
Ouch!!! First time hearing this song! 😭😭 I have a one that got away. He came to my wedding... waited outside for me to arrive... wanted to say it but didn’t... so I married someone else who left me 14 1/2 years later for somebody that was 40 years younger than him. I think about that everyday. This song is killing me!!!! CLIFFHANGER... what???????
Yep. This song hit me in the gut the first time I heard it! Ha! Typed that just as you said it! Lol
Yes, I married my high school sweetheart. I was 15, he was 16 when we met. We got married the next yr. (my Jr. yr., his Sr. yr.) 4 months later he went into the USMC. He served for 8yrs. Leaving us behind many times. It was rough, but we toughed it out. We celebrated 50 yrs. in Apr. We have 4 kids, 10 grandkids, and 4 great grandkids. We are blessed beyond measure❤️
I love this song! My high school sweetheart and I broke up right after high school but remained best friends afterwards. I got married 19 then divorced but he was still there as my best friend helping me through everything. We ended up getting back together after 6 years apart we are now happily married and have three amazing kids!

I can definitely relate with my best friend when we were kids we grew up together it's hard to speak up when you don't want to ruin the friendship
As soon as you asked who was married to their high school sweetheart, I knew you were about to get your shit rocked😂
Billy, Ive been in this spot, and currently am. I met this girl at my very first job. I actually saw her working when I was in the store shopping with my mom. During that time, I was looking for a job, since I was fresh out of high school and applied to work there, not because of her. I interviewed and wound up getting the job. One day I was on break, and so was she. I could tell that she had been crying, so i approached her and asked if she was okay. As time went on, I learned more about her and her situation, not knowing she had a boyfriend who was her high school crush. They recently had a daughter 6 months prior. The more we got to know each other, the more I realized how amazing she was. Then the store Christmas party came around. I was nervous and couldn't work up the courage to ask if she wanted to go with me. It is a good thing I didn't, because that night I met her 6 month old daughter and her boyfriend. As time went on and the more she opened up to me, turns out he was abusive to her but she was scared to leave. This crushed me, because I knew how better off she would be if she was to leave him. As we grew more as friends, he began to not like me, reason being, I started to take tests to become a police officer, and worked security, and got friends in the law enforcement industry. So from time to time she would distance her self from me because of him not liking me. It was so bad that when he would beat her she would call me crying, in fact when he started using drugs, and she told him she was pregnant with their second child, he beat her so bad and threw her down the stairs, to the point where she almost had a miscarriage. I am happy to announce that did not happen, and the child is perfectly fine. Throughout all of this, I finally opened up to her one night and told her how I felt about her. I was quickly put in the same position, as the kid in this video. Years later, she worked up the courage to get a restraining order against him, and was put into protective custody by the court due to his actions, and attempting to kill her and her family. We are still friends now, and her daughter who was 6 months when I met her is now 17 years old, driving, and introduced me to her boyfriend via FaceTime the other day. All 3 of her kids that she had by this guy, all call me their uncle, and we talk all the time. Their mother, still has no plans to move me out of the friend zone, so I can treat her like the queen I know she is, it still crushes me to this day, 19 years later. After ever FaceTime and phone call, we always end it with "I love you" and when she visits home, we make it a point to see each other. I don't know if you read this entire thing, but if you did, I hope billyyse (billy you so emotional) didn't come to the comment section!
Yes. I can relate. I have a best friend that this happened with. Friends with her family and was even in her wedding party. Known each other for 17 years now.
I can relate, was such a close friend I even was there when his little girl was born but I found my forever love eventually
This song guts me every single time I hear it...even all these years later.
I remember the first time I heard that song... and that line.. my jaw and heart dropped. The end of that video gets me every time though😭😭😂😂
I love this video 💛
I’m literally living this song at the very moment
Yes! My high school crush. I told him in 3 different languages how I felt. He responded with “I only like you like a friend”. He got engaged and then passed away almost 10 years ago
We started going oit in 10th grade, graduated in 1994 and married in 1995. Still happy today 💜💜
I’ve known my husband since we were in kindergarten. We graduated high school together but never dated in high school. We were best friends all through high school , saw many failed relationships. We started dating in college and have been a couple since 1992 and married since 1997. We have an 18 year old son and an 11 year old daughter. ❤️
I met my husband when I was 12. He was my first date. My Homecoming and Prom date. We went to college in seperate directions and agreed to be friends. He saw my mother several times and asked about me. I had a bad breakup right before Spring Break. My sister invited him over while I was home. It was like those 8 months had never happened. He was "the one." He always had been, we just didn't know it until then. We have been married for 27 years this July. We have 3 kids. Our oldest 2 are both in the Navy, so I love your veteran reactions. He is my best friend and the man that makes me a better woman.
