What DNA testing exists proves that Thomas Jefferson did NOT father 6 of Sally Hemmings children . This skit is BS. There were 8 Jeffersons who could have fathered Hemmings children and the DNA testing proved that Thomas Woodson, one of her children, was NOT Jefferson's child.

Réka Bordás-Simon I know this is long but informative read ! Genetic DNA paternity testing requires the testing of a Y chromosome from a male descendant of the subject because the Y chromosome in males remains virtually unchanged from generation to generation. But Thomas Jefferson had no male descendant s from which to take a DNA sample. His only son had died at birth. Since Jefferson had no male descendants ,researchers chose to test the Y chromosome from the descendants of Field Jefferson, Thomas’s uncle. Researchers found that the configuration of the Y chromosome in the descendants of Field Jefferson- a general configuration common to the entire Jefferson family-was indeed present in the descendants of sally Hemings youngest child , Easton. Therefore on the basis of DNA testing the most that the researchers could conclusively say was that some Jefferson Male and there were 26 Jefferson males living in the area at the time! -Herbert Barger, the Jefferson family historian and genealogist who assisted in the DNA testing, explained:my study indicates to me that Thomas Jefferson was NOT the father of Easton or any other Himmings child. The DNA study... indicates that Randolph [Thomas’younger brother]is possibly the father of Easton and maybe the others...three of sally Hemings children,Harriet,Beverly, and Easton (the latter two not common names), were given names of the Randolph family. -the Scholars ‘ commission arrived at the same conclusion.significantly, that group had not been composed of Jefferson supporters ; in fact, several of the scholars had believed that Jefferson might be the father of hemings’children. But after a year investigating the evidence they all concluded that Randolph , Jefferson ‘s younger brother was indeed the most likely father, explaining: The circumstantial case that Easton Hemings was fathered by the president’s Younger brother is many times stronger than the case against the president himself.among the considerations which might point to Randolph are: -In”memoirs of a Monticello Slave” former slave Isaac Jefferson asserts that when Randolph Jefferson visited Monticello,he “used to come out among black people, and play fiddle and dance half the night...” in contrast, we have not A single account of Thomas Jefferson spending his nights socializing with the slaves in such a manner - we have Jefferson s letter inviting Randolph to come to Monticello shortly before Sally became pregnant with Easton. It was common for such visits to last for weeks!

    B. Gaudin, the DNA evidence NEVER proved that the President fathered ANY of Hemmings' children. He had a younger brother who had 5 sons who were in their teens and early 20s when Hemmings had her children. Those other Jeffersons shared the President's DNA.

@Levis. H actually men having sex with girls young enough to be their daughters was not as common place back then as people think. For example, on average women back then married in their late teens or early twenties. Among the lower classes in Virginia (where Jefferson lived), the average age of brides was 23, with grooms averaging 26; so you can see the average bride and groom were very close in age.

Ms. Farrow then broke up with Mr. Allen (they never actually married or lived together). I would’ve, too. Makes me gag just remembering back in 1991, 92, when Woody Allen did these really, really WEIRD things.

"Sally Hemings came to Jefferson's home as an infant with her mother and siblings as part of his wife Martha's inheritance of slaves from her father. Hemings was the youngest of six siblings by the widowed planter John Wayles (slave trader) and Betty Hemings, a mixed-race enslaved woman; Sally and her siblings were three-quarters European, and through their father were also half-siblings of Martha Jefferson.[3] In 1787, Hemings, aged 14,[1] accompanied Jefferson's youngest daughter Mary("Polly") to London and then to Paris, where the widowed Jefferson, aged 44 at the time, was serving as the United States Minister to France. Hemings spent two years there. It is believed by most historians that Jefferson began a sexual relationship with Hemings in France or soon after their return to Monticello.[2] Hemings remained enslaved in Jefferson's house until his death. In 2017 a room identified as her quarters at Monticello, adjacent to Jefferson's bedroom, was discovered in an archeological restoration. It will be restored and refurbished.[4][5] The historical question of whether Jefferson was the father of Hemings' children is known as the Jefferson-Hemings controversy. Following renewed historic analysis in the late 20th century and a 1998 DNA study that found a match between the Jefferson male line and a descendant of Hemings' last son, Eston Hemings, there is a consensus among historians that Jefferson fathered her son Eston Hemings and probably all her children.[6]A small number of historians disagree.[7] Hemings' children lived in Jefferson's house as slaves and were trained as artisans. Jefferson freed all of Hemings' surviving children: Beverly, Harriet, Madison, and Eston, as they came of age (they were the only slave family freed by Jefferson). They were seven-eighths European in ancestry, and three of the four entered white society as adults. Descendants of those three identified as white.[8][9] Hemings was "given her time," and lived her last nine years freely with her two younger sons in Charlottesville, Virginia. She saw a grandchild born in the house her sons owned.[10]"

It's a little tone deaf to make a skit about a person who owned people and then raped them in the light of " this is just some funky white dude who likes black chicks " It trivializes what a monster he was and it would have been better if they made jokes at his expense instead of chuckling at the concept that a little girl who was beaten and starved and raped by a much older white man. There is a way to joke about jefferson being a piece of shit, this sketch did not do that.

They’d be “free” and homeless. Probably doomed to a life of prostitution or worse. Also, she was a 14 year old child who looked like a younger version of Thomas Jefferson’s dead wife. He wasn’t letting her go, and he had the money and resources to make sure he got what he wanted, period. She was brought to France to be raped.

Looking at a lot of the discussion here on Sally's age when Thomas started "courting" her. Yes, she was indeed a child. Keep that in mind, folks, when you start bashing the founder of Islam for being a child molester that one of America's "Founding Fathers" was one too.

Actually she was 14 which was a totally normal age to get married at for the overwhelming majority of human history. The age of consent in colonial America was also 12, so.

@@arrynwilliams2842 you don't know that. Actual historians will point this out. Go read up on what they actually have to say on the subject. I've not yet found one who said it has to be rape, the most extreme I've seen is one that said it could have been. There are more historians who don't think it was ever a thing then ones who think it was rape.

2:31 Jefferson says it’s because he used to live in Paris he forgets about slavery. He knew Sally before though. Sally Hemings travelled with the Jeffersons when his only child surviving to adulthood, Maria, came with him to Paris. Sally was her older mistress / companion. Sally was basically Maria’s chauffeur in Paris. Maria and Sally’s relationship was more of having to take your sibling with you and watch them. Also, Maria hated Sally. Maria and Sally were actually related however. I can’t remember how, but they were blood. A great book to learn more is a book called “Jefferson’s Sons”. I don’t remember the author. Although it is a ya fiction book, it tells the true story about the lives of Sally and her & possibly Thomas’s (illegitimate) children. The book only takes artistic liberties when it comes to small day to day details that are not able to be known. I’m 17 and have read the book 3+ times. I love it. The main character is Sally’s 2nd oldest (surviving) child, a boy named Beverly and how he is treated, not only inhumanly of course, as a slave, but also was able to get out of hard manual labor and was able to get away with a lot more as it was never said or acknowledged, but everyone knew the Heming’s kids were Jefferson’s. I realize this is a long and fact-filled post for an SNL skit, but I am fascinated by history and while “Jefferson’s Sons” may be a ya book, it is influential to any age group. That’s all. Sorry for the long winded post.

They’re related bc Sally Hemings was the half sister of Thomas Jefferson’s wife. And that man definitely sired her children. There’s DNA proof. That book sounds interesting

Regina, I'm just now reading your post of four years ago when you were seventeen, and as you probably know by now, Sally was the half sister of Jefferson's wife, Martha; the two having had the same father. Also, Maria, aka "Polly," who lived to be in her twenties, was not Jefferson's only surviving child. His eldest daughter, the sturdy, Martha, aka "Patsy," had eleven or twelve children, and lived somewhere into her sixties. She is the one who was disapproving of her aunt, Sally's relationship with her father, but had no control over it; he would do what he wanted to. One of the books I've read is, "Thomas Jefferson, an Intimate History," by Faun Brodie: an excellent read! ~Margie Murphy Crom
