    Hey guys, just want to clarify you CAN transfer in 114 credits and do just Information Literacy and the Capstone at TESU. You can do this by taking the Software Engineering ACE Course from Saylor. Although, sometimes they accept it and sometimes they don’t. TESU is sometimes not consistent, depending who’s evaluating. They will not accept Study’s Software Engineering course (they will, but as an elective). While you can technically transfer in 114 credits, 24 of those transfer credits MUST be from a 2 or 4 year university, and you will have to be required to pay TESU’s $3300 Residency Waiver. TESU is one of the ONLY schools in the country that allows this many transfer units. 90 is the standard among all schools including WGU. I personally completed 9 credits at TESU, the two required courses, and Software Engineering. Feel free to ask me about anything.

    Making my plan to primarily transfer in credits from Sophia and Study, the requirement for RA credits was a little tricky and I'm going to do so by getting 5 classes from TECEPs and taking 5 classes at TESU. It's very hackable, but also very unclear.

    I’ll have to see how much quicker I can graduate here vs WGU, I can transfer in 90 at WGU and my associates actually covered some of the core classes, it would take 1 semester to finish the bachelors, but if I can transfer in extra gen ed credits and just do 2 or 3 classes at TESU I may be able to have the degree in a matter of weeks instead of 6 months. I’m really hoping UMPI makes a yourpace BS CS by the end of 2024

    I had some of the same thoughts. I don't like how easy WGU was for my cybersecurity degree and I think in the future it is going to be seen as a diploma mill. I want to go back to school since I cant get hired anywhere and get a Computer Science degree. I really regret doing the Cybersecurity degree. I am still unsure about WGU vs. TESU but I am leaning towards TESU.

    Maybe it is off-topic, but how is the course structure and quality of the materials? Since I have zero background, I don't want to purely speed-run a degree, but I also don't want to pay $35k for the 2-year OSU post-bacc program. I know self-study is essential, but how would you rate the teaching? How much would finishing TESU in 1.5 or 2 years help me learn, or is the degree just for speed-running? I've heard many people go to Georgia Tech's OMSCS from there. They probably have previous industry experience, but do the professors write reference letters?

  • @alexsheppe

    @alexsheppe

    TESU is mostly for speed running, WGU you’d probably learn a little more from. You could just speedrun TESU and do more of a Entry Computer Science Masters that teaches you everything from the Bachelor’s. Those type of C.S. masters are becoming more and more popular and assume no C.S. knowledge.

    Hey Alex, do you know if TESU CS degree is ABET accredited ?

  • @alexsheppe

    @alexsheppe

    2 ай бұрын

    I don’t think so, but tons of CS Degrees are not ABET Accredited including all of the University of California schools. ABET Accreditation means nothing for Computer Science. That is important in majors like Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Electrical Engineering. ABET is required to take some exams and required by some jobs, when it comes to those majors. Employers do not care about ABET Accreditation regarding Computer Science or Software Engineering. They aren’t true engineering degrees.

    @@alexsheppe Ahh I see. Makes sense, thanks for clearing that up. Curious, between the three schools TESU, WGU, UMPI, do you have a preference ? I know WGU gives automatic 3.0 and I assume the other schools give actual GPAs, maybe this can be a consideration.

  • @alexsheppe

    @alexsheppe

    2 ай бұрын

    UMPI doesn’t do tech degrees for YourPace. For WGU and TESU all depends on preference. I was attending WGU and realized I was not going to finish in one term (because I didn’t do enough ACE Credits). Speed was important to me, and cost was not. So I took my credits to TESU, did a few courses, and graduated. But those courses were $1600 each and a residency waiver that costs $3300. The only time TESU would be faster, is my own unique case. Stockpile a bunch of WGU CS credits, and then transfer them. TESU needs slightly less CS credits.

    Something to take into consideration. But I also think WGU spends an absorbent amount of money to make sure their image in search engines stays clean. They also are non-profit. Odds are an employer has never heard of WGU, will do a 5 second search, and see it’s totally legitimate.
