I see no reason to not showcase his work anywhere the me too movement can sometimes be overly aggressive over nothing so his work is beautiful, so let it be shown and shown . He worked very hard in his paintings, and it should be noticed.

    “Cowperthwait” was likely pronounced “Cooper-thwait”.

I think you did not include an important part of his life in this video: His sexual attraction to men. Many of his homoerotic paintings speak for themselves. Many of the allegations against his behavior were related to his homosexuality. I leave a link of a very interesting study about this artist and two other great American painters: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mo51s5qSqZTgnZM.html

Thank you for the link and discussion! There is plenty of evidence to support this, but I did not include it since it is really up for debate. You are right that his paintings speak for themselves... the allegations from male and female students are really what's important.

This stiff, academic person should have 'behaved' himself whilst giving instructions to the art students in his 'Life classes'! The'golden rule' is one of respect for the 'life' model who is brave enough to pose and the artist never either 'exposes' him/ herself in front of other students, or, 'gropes' the model! In his case he 'abused' all the rules! I found this doc really 'disgusting'---from the beginning when this fellow Eakins undertakes a group portrait of a surgeon with colleagues) and depicts the 'blood' issuing from the patient's vein the impression one gets of him is total disgust; the fellow deserved all the scandal he received in his day and his art and himself should be forgotten about (permanently!)

That's iconoclastic. Certainly, there are things about humans that we would rather not talk about but I don't think it is ever okay to destroy history. What if we destroyed all the bad art in the world and completely deceived ourselves that all humans were good and that there has never been any violence or evil? That would truly be dystopian. We can't just erase elements of history we don't like, we have to preserve it for future generations so that they can learn what real people are like, how their ancestors lived, and how it affects us all today. There was a great effort for many centuries to erase all homosexual people from the history books. All established gay couples were called roommates or brothers or close friends, anything by the ancient Greeks and other ancient cultures that included homosexuality was heavily censored, adulterated, or purposefully mistranslated, and artwork depicting homosexuality was destroyed. Eventually, many people were forced to forget that humans have a homosexual nature because they didn't know their history because their history had been tampered with. When they discovered that there were homosexual people, they had never seen anything like it so assumed that it was unnatural.
