I just want to acknowledge the fact that Thom Yorke is a master of melody. I don’t think he gets enough credit for that. Part of why Radiohead is so good is because no matter what musical direction they go in, Thom always brings catchy, compelling melodies. This is one of my favorite examples. Each of the three melodies is so amazing and unique. The humming at the start, middle, and end is just beautiful and unlike anything I’ve heard before. The chorus is great and catchy and also sung with so much passion. But the verse melody is the best for me. A lot of musicians just half-ass verse melodies because they just want to get to the chorus, but Thom Yorke doesn’t do that, and that especially shows here. It’s such a compelling and visceral melody because of how it climbs with the words “I see you in the dark” and stays at around the same note that it reaches at “dark” for “corner of the street, coming after” and then “me” descends three notes. It’s brilliant. It reminds me of the fifth “yeah” in Nirvana’s Lithium (Kurt Cobain was also a master of melody) and how that also descends three notes. This brings sort of a folk sound though. I love it so much. One of his best works.

Guitar: Martin 00-18 . Lyrics "Follow Me Around" I see you in the dark Corner of the street Coming after me, yeah Headlights on full-beam Coming down the fast lane Coming after me, yeah I would like to change back now To the shadow of The shadow of my former self It follows me around [x2] Did you lie to us Tony? We thought you were different Now you know we’re not so sure Drooling looney tunes Moving in a swarm Moving in a swarm It follows me around [x4] Nowadays I get panicked I cease to exist I have ceased to exist I feel absolutely nothing The words are out of ink The words you know are out of ink You follow me around [x2] Follow me around [x2]

I believe he is using no pick. And I didn't realize he said Tony's name but now that you say that, I do think that because he also says the line "We thought you were different, and now, you know, we're not so sure" right after that and I saw this video of Thom performing a month or two ago where he said the same thing (possibly verbatim) right before performing some song. Also I'm almost positive he mentioned Tony Blair right before saying it, but I can't recall the song or performance right now

how is it far better? its almost exactly the same, except the band comes in at the end...which TBH sounds quite typical... The raw acoustic version is better especially since he added a bridge to break up the repetitive nature of using only 2 chords. this version is at least 3 times better than MPIS, you're just used to the MPIS version and can't cope with change.

Tony Blair wasn't even in the picture, when this song was written. I'd say it's more a reference to a maffia kind of Tony.

That's not true. The original version of this song does not have that verse. He added that starting around 2000 at the Toronto show. It is most definitely a reference to Tony Blair. You can see the original version in Meeting People is Easy.
