The king in yellow is a book, it's very hp Lovecraft inspired. It's referenced a few times in the first season of true detective. It's a anthology book that has a series of short stories. The king in yellow in particular is play of sorts.

MCFARLANE CAN NEVER MAKE 6 INCH FIGS , DUE TO SPIN MASTER HAVING THAT LICENSE FOR THAT SCALE.ONLY THING MCFARLANE CAN DO IS UPDATE THE ARTICULATION .BESIDE NECA'S SUPERMAN , MCFARLANE'S IS SECOND BEST AT 7" SCALE.
