Driving in Penang or among Penang drivers are scary not because of the busy or narrow roads but because of their drivers who don't care about other people at all. So kudos to you for having your first Malaysian driving experience in Penang. I hope your experience will be better and better.

You are welcome to Taman Tasik Taiping and I am a Grab Driver. Please let me be your tour guide if you come to my place. Taiping and Penang are not so much different in terms of traffic, so I think you can maybe drive my car or I drive you to any place you want here. Well common ,it happen in alot video, when being ask Who are the worst driver in Malaysia.(by state)? Penang people: kl people is the worst driver in Malaysia(even in this video you see alot penang people do that in the comment ) All others state people: penang people Penang people won't admit they are the worst driver. Others state is like 10% driver change lane without signal,90% follows. Meanwhile in penang 10%is the one that really use their signal,90% don't use signal . Then they give excuse like " because their driver is high skill, only people with high driving skill can drive in penang " for me is like majority that is not call "gooddriving skill", that is call irresponsible driving attitude that don't follow driving laws.

I grew up in KL and I go up to Penang pretty often but I myself am really terrified to drive in Penang. One advise I can give you is if you drive in Penang try and keep to the middle lane because there are a lot of sudden turn offs to the left and right so keeping to the middle is a very safe bet. Also you need "bravery" 勇気 when you drive in Malaysia, just have to channel your inner Shounen MC.

My mom told me that when we drive in Malaysia, you must have a good understanding on the road at all times because both cars need to do their part to avoid an accident, not just one regardless of who is wrong. Prepare your breaks and let them be, thats my solution. Enjoy Penang~

So this is how foreigners feel when driving in Malaysia LOL. A tip is, driving fast or slow, try drive at a steady speed and don't suddenly speed up or brake hard to slow down. Because as you see cars and motorcycles cut you all the time(motorcycles especially) so if someone suddenly brake or speed, thats where most problem comes. But if you have no choice like the car suddenly reversing out, then there is no choice. Haha. Good luck and be steady, be cool and be happy

    1) Follow infront car with one or half car distance. 2) When driving in the straight line, pay more attention in front car (emergency break). 3) Before turning left or right, turn on indicator and must pay attention to motorcycles on the side that you want turn, MUST let ALL motorcycles go first (if you feel they drive fast) because motorcycles is more superior than car. Sometimes motorcycles will slow down to let car make turn. 4) Any people show their hand like stop hand to you, then you let them go first.

Tips that i would like to recommend to both of you when driving in Malaysia 1. Be Brave 2. Be patience 3. Must tolerate 4. Be careful It is just at the city area, you can enjoy driving when you come at village area. But most of malaysia tourist spot is like what you faced. You must be cool, but when you 'want to become malaysian people' driving a car everyday, honestly it is very stressful for us who gonna work, face traffic jam, you must need to adapt it everyday. Sometimes we had to face crazy people and not tolerate when driving but, if you are not be the one whos gonna tolerate, so who's ? This is fact of malaysia. Tips for Jimmy just focus to drive on your own lane/space don't get too nervous when people are trying to cut into your space, just continue to move on carefully and look out for cars or bikes around you. As Penang people we already developed the sense of prediction when those cars and bikes are going to do next.

I am from Penang. This kind of driving is so normal for us. Your driving is hilarious though, never knew driving in Penang is stressful. That said, since you asked for tips, well, there are unspoken rules in Penang traffic. Here they are: 1. Always line up as if you lined for school lunch. 2. During cornering, you MUST always stick to the same lane without changing. At least until you clear the corner. 3. If switching lane, look for an opening (of two cars space, more or less), and turn out FIRST, then only switch on the indicator 💡 as you are switching lane (not before). 4. We do not show mercy, so keep Rule#3 properly. 5. Because of rule #4, if you are coming out of the junction to turn right, if there is an opening where cars are coming from the right, come out first (so that they hve no choice but to stop). But always 👋 your hand to show gratitude to them for stopping. Then wait for the next best opportunity from the cars coming from the left. 6. When traffic light turns green, go immediately, don’t take your time. This is so that in case someone lined up behind you is in a hurry to get somewhere, they are not stalled behind 😁. Common traffic courtesy. Penang people will not hesitate to use the horn. 7. Don’t let someone cut into your lane unless they gave you no choice. Penang know a non-local driver when they see one’s driving behaviour 😏😉. 8. Feel free to change lane at any where, as long there is no car. Your side view mirror is your best friend. Be decisive on which lane to take and where to go hahaha. 😅 9. Certain roads in Penang near komtar, because it is narrow, even two or three cars can fit through one lane. Just relax. 10. Practice (x100) 😂 Happy relaxing driving. “Be steady, be relax, be happy”

of so many places to drive, Jimmy is so brave to choose Penang. 😴 Tips: #1 turn on "Jimmy's 360 camera". always scan left-right & back-front for surprises. #2 turn on "Jimmy's radar system". Listen to motorcycle sound are there near you especially you want to change lane or turn". triple check. #3 Turn on "Jimmy's AI". Observe car wheel or motorcyclist head direction to predict in advance that they are going to change lane or turn. #4 treat bus, lorry & motorcycle (yes, not typo) the same. let them pass first.

One tip of driving in Penang: try to observe the driving of the bad drivers (not all penangites are bad drivers) and you learn from it. If you can't beat them join them. At times you'll have to be ruthless as well but try to be a kind driver once in a while (like giving them way). Once you get the hang of it you'll be fine driving in Penang. Driving on a daily basis in Penang taught me to be more alert of my surroundings and sharpens my reflexes.

Welcome to Penang . Just focus on your front and don’t drive too fast . I mean not more than 60km per hour . So you can hit the break better if out of sudden motorcycle came in front of you .

As a penangite, u need great confidence in driving skill and also strong prediction. Cars and motorcycles here likes to change lane without signal, overtakes without much concern for others.

Jimmy! My South Asian driving tips: Drive smooth and don't make any quick changes. When you drive smooth the surrounding traffic can estimate free spaces to squeeze between. Also the road-lines isn't that important there, two lanes easy turn into three lanes, and always leave space for motorbikes.

love the baju batik. And the McD akka is very kind. too bad, Malaysia doesn't have a sustainable lifestyle surrounding public transport and you have to resort to driving a car. I have big hope, with the coming election, that this aspect will be given proper scrutiny.

Look at the pedestrian area. If alot of foottraffic. The road line become suggestion. If no foot traffic. The lines can be trusted. If have double parking. Just use the other lane, keep the double parked lane empty, alot of surprises. Look up until 200m front back left right. Always be aware of the momentum of other road users. Bikes will do their best to not collide with you. But give them a small space to escape their momentum, they have smaller brakes. They don't do well in emergency braking situation.

I used to live in Penang for 58yrs. I drove for 32 yrs going to work everyday. Just follow the flow and make sure all side view mirrors, rear view mirror are properly aligned. You really need to be alert and focused at all times. Be very2 careful with the motorbikes. They can do stunts and make you do emergency brakes and also cause the car behind you to hit the backside of your car. I had an accident where the motorbike did a u turn just in front of me. I applied the emergency brake snd the car behind hit me on the back. Very2 distressing.

Ichang and Jimmy, you are so funny. I always enjoyed watching your videos but Jimmy looked so stressed from all that driving..hahaha..Just remember this,if you can drv in Malaysia, you can drv anywhere in the world.haha..But when driving in Msia, please remember to watch for motors (I always felt that they like mosquitos too) as they come from everywhere and although you used your signal to turn, they will not gv way and if you dont notice, you may accidentally knocked them. For the drv thru, actually the first machine said to go to the front ones. Usually they will only used both if its busy (but i rarely experienced it),if not you can always go to the first one. Please make more videos because your videos make me happy.. Thank you and take care Ichang and Jimmy ❤️❤️❤️

Jimmy you need to be careful driving in Malaysia. Different states have different kind of driving style on the road (from my experience in penang/kl/kelantan) . In the highway its the same but if you are driving inside the states, you need to adapt fast on their driving pattern.

Jouzu, jouzu Jimmy! Yoi start! I enjoy watching your videos and sharing them with my friends back in Japan 😁 When I was 17 I got my driver's license in KL and would spend a few months every year in Yokohama with my father. When he was asleep I would sneak the car out and pick my friends up and drive to Kamakura. My friends kept telling me I was breaking a lot of rules 😅. But I quickly learned in Japan you have to be a considerate driver, the road belongs to pedestrians first and everyone else second. In Malaysia it's a dog eat dog world, the road belongs to the motorbikes first and the drivers second, everyone else better watchout 🤕. If you are timid, you get nowhere. Not ideal, but just the nature of things. My advise to you, be a defensive driver. You are right, you have to imagine the road in 3D and not 2D. The more aware you are of your environment and surroundings, the safer and better you will be on the road. You have to imagine it like a video game. In Japan use Monk Mode. In Malaysia use Warrior Mode. Ganbatte Jimmy!

I never drove to penang yet. Took my driving licence in Ipoh. Stay in KL. My best driving was in the highway. Stay on the left. So you only have cars bypass you from right only. Share your road with motorcycles. But beware sometimes they don't give signals.
