In this explore we visit an Abandoned mansion
Located in the south of England. This stunning peice of Design, an architecture marvel modelled to look like the life stages of a Butterfly.
From the Larvae stage being the path leading to the front door, to the Chrysalis, which forms the stairs and inside areas.
Finally to the winged insect which is represented by the external canopies.

The origanal cottage was built in 1930, Laurie Chetwood brought the cottage, so he could enter the RIBA architecture awards, the original cottage is still there, he just wrapped his butterfly around it. The Chetwood family moved in to prove you can live in an art installation. The Chetwoods still own the property. The pattern on the windows are the same as a peacock butterfly, it helped to make the open canopy look like a peacock butterfly. Laurie Chetwood is still alive and runs his own architecture business, he has offices in China, London, Colonge and New York.

@VacantHaven it would seem that you did well to record the property as it's due to be torn down and redeveloped soon.
Architect Laurie Chetwood built the home his business is in London and other countries as well a combination of art and architecture . If you look at the photos of this house it's amazing especially lit up at night .

Such a shame that such a wealthy successful man would leave this place fall into such disarray this is hard understand why somebody would do this to their own piece of art
Bloody hell, I thought my other half had slipped something in my tea and I was high 😄😄 That place is crazy, I'd love to know what was going on in their heads when designing this, they definitely don't do normal do they 😄 Great explore guys, thanks for showing something so crazy, loved it 👌♥️ Have a great week and see you next weekend xx Edit: If anyone wants to see pictures of this family living in the house just Google architect Laurie Chetwood and all will be revealed 😊 They now live in a normal house 👍

I always love the way Eddie scoots on ahead...theres no stopping him when hes on a mission. I did wonder if the EC initials on the door stood for Eric Clapton. What a weird layout but impressive detailing. Think the kitchen would let it down. What a great find. Thanks Alex, Ed and Ned. Xx love the end photo xx

Wow! What a mad find! And the goodies in the shed- speechless. Thanks for the exploration!
What a incredible house. ❤
Certainly got my attention. Quirky, unfinished dwelling thrown up in a hurry but cleverly done. I loved it. Run on car batteries and probably some solar panels. Off grid. Loved it!! Cheers Alex. Wonderful video!

yeah ideal little location this, really unusual explore. Cheers for the support Nanny 😁👍
Love that 2000s light, airy, colourful and experimental style. Not sure I could have lived in the house but it was definitely an era of hope and excitement culturally and artistically and it’s reflected in the design. Great find. Weird that they still own it and all that stuff is still there.
Amazing, fun house. I wonder if the owner was a famous artist? That wisteria is incredibly beautiful. I wonder what made them up and leave? Why leave the buggies and Land Rover behind? Great explore 🎉Such a unique house.
That looks wacky 🤣 A must watch for laters All set 👍
The best urbex UK Channel, followed by Matt and the Secret vault. Quality video and commentary. Add in Pompey for good measure. 😁
That has to be one of the most unusual houses I've ever seen. I guess I go for more traditional styles cause I can't imagine being comfortable there. I really don't understand the bathroom! It looks like a bathroom Doc Brown from Back To The Future would enjoy. Lol But it does have an amazing view. Thanks for sharing!
Cool explore guys. Definitely one of the most unusual themed homes I've seen. BTW the Land Rover was a bit of a classic!

Wow what an incredible place. Real Grand Designs style but never finished! The owner clearly was an artist too, judging by the bits left behind and the stunning views from the house. Very sad that it’s all been left - it would be great to find out more and understand how the design would have worked with all those pulleys and swivelling shelves😳 Don’t know how you’re finding those quirky places but please carry on!! Great video Alex 👍 Ed and Ned 👍👍

It’s like they are in the middle of converting it into either an art studio or a weird home. It’s not comfortable and homely at all. Well done for finding this crazy one Alex xx. Note, on the walkway outside, someone has cut back the laurel. It would have overgrown that path
Fantastic place to work sleep and play...no nosey neighbours..seen this twice now..unbelievable that these place's exist 👌 cheers guy's

After viewing this, I went to the Laurie Chetwood site...omg what an extraordinary genius he is! His prestigious architectural firm is beyond awesome, there aren't enough words of amazement to describe what Mr Chetwood has accomplished! As I watched your tour thru the sadly abandoned 'Butterfly House, it came to me that Laurie Chetwood is the reincarnation of Gaudi ...(and perhaps Michelangelo as well, seriously) 😯 I did see afterwards that his favorite building is in Barcelona, Gaudi's Sagrada Familia... Prayers for this incredible 🦋 work of art to remain untouched from vandals, and hopefully to go to someone who can appreciate it soon with a mind for restoration! It should be preserved!!! 🙏💛🖖

What a fantastic place. Looks like something from the 1960s. Too much LSD. lol Thank you, Alex, Ned, and Ed the hill climber!
I believe the whole house was some sort of art retreat, both eccentric and cheesy at the same time, didn't look like a winter home.
Totally stunning 💜💜
There's so much to take in, it's a major overload on my brain!
What kind of mind gave birth to all that ⁉I was afraid my eyes were going to pop out lol. Beautiful in a weird kind of way. I wish I could meet who ever did that, must be very interesting folks. Is it in south of England ? Kind made me think of Wales too. Great video Alex, Eddie and Neddie that was quite a find. Thank you 💖💖💖🦋🦋🦋

Alternative living in the extreme, super cool place, loved it, would like to meet the person who built this, amazing find, astonishing to know that such a place exists here. Build not really suitable for our weather, California would work better.

Nice find , 👍👍👍
I like it. Great content. Thank you Alex. 👍👍👍😍😍😍
Nice. The whole place used aeroplane parts. The stairs were made out of bits from the inside of the wings. they used to be in those revolving display wings. All the cables and mechanisms inspired from the flying machine designed by davinci. ( I think %89 sure )
Good find! Thanks for sharing :D
