I can relate to how this song may even be harder for you, not having had a good relationship with your biological father. That said, you’ve done well despite that burden, and there are people who are proud of you! Semper fi brother

There is such a UNIVERSAL drive in men to make their Father Proud. The struggle of Life, for Men, is such an all consuming affair. This song is such an emotional release . . . for emotions that men are ridiculed to ever exhibit.

James and his Dad both were military men and emotions are not always easy. James’ dad was in stage 4 kidney failure and a donor had not been found until this video came out and a distant cousin came forward after seeing the video and was a match and therefore donated a kidney and saved his life . James’s dad had previously donated a kidney so he was in dire straits. This is James’s Dad in the video

Both James and his Father are (highly decorated) British Army veterans - he used to say "I'm not your son, you're not my Father, we're just two grown men saying goodbye", each time before they were deployed to a war zone.

I have watched several interviews with James Blunt. He is a very sensitive, but self deprecating hilarious guy. His sense of humor is really amazing. He and his father were both in the military and when he was going off to Kosovo his father said that line to him, only roles reversed: "You're not my son, I'm not your father, we're just two grown men saying goodbye".

James Blunt is a great and honourable man. Profits from “Monsters” went to Hope for Heroes and The British Legion which help veterans since both James and his father served in the British Army (Captain and Colonel respectively). “The Greatest” was written as a thank you to the NHS during COVID and all profits were donated to the NHS.

His producers wanted to clean up the performance, with auto tune and other editing. James would have none of it, as he wanted the rawness of his emotions to come through. They do. He is very much a professional musician, but there are times when emotions will crash the party. It is remarkable that he held it together as much as he did.

At the time James' dad was in kidney failure. They did find a donor in time, thank god. Both him and his dad were in the British military. James was a lieutenant. You need to react to, "No Bravery", by James also. You being in the military will appreciate this song better than a lot of people. Its gut wrenching, so be prepared.

Great reaction, please do no bravery also.. or carrie you home... it will hit you, but these songs gave me even more respect for the militairy man.. If I could carry you, to cope with your fears and pains, I would carry you....for hours, days or all night... If I could say something to answer all your questions about happyness, love, life or death, I would talk to you...for hours, days or all night. If I could cure all that is festering inside you, inside your heart, about your battered soul, I would heal you, nurish you for hours, days or all night. But I'm not stronger or better than you, I don't have all the answers you're looking for, for so many hours, days or even true the night.. I can only be a friend that's willing to listnen, to walk with you, for hours, days or all night.. I can do give you my hand and try to make you see that you don't stand alone my friend..... James has a college degree so he entered as a Lieutenant. He served for 6 years, eventually rising to the rank of Captain. He saw combat in Kosovo. He also helped to avert World War 3 when he refused a General's order, at risk of a court martial, to attack a small group of Russians who were occupying an airport. He argued against the order until another General backed him up. All of the proceeds from this song went to Help for Heroes, a British charity for veterans. He also donates to Doctors Without Borders, and during the pandemic, he donated all of the proceeds from his song, "The Greatest," to Britain's National Health Service. James is a man worthy of admiration and an artist with a huge library of great songs. He never got the recognition he deserves in the U.S., but he is a superstar in much of the world.

It’s heart-wrenching. I first heard this song, four months after my dad passed, and I actually used it as a form of catharsis. To give myself permission to cry. Try and heal. It only works when people are open and honest with their emotions, like you are doing and I thank you.

This powerful song wrenches the heart. Your reaction told your story and you should be proud you had the guts to talk about it to the world. I am proud of you.

I always wanted my father to say he loved me and that he was proud of me. I too tried my whole life for those words. I did many things that my father should have been proud of me. It wasn't until I was in my 50's and became a high executive in a Corporation earning a great salary that he said, he was proud of me and he loved me. It's funny. By the time he said those words. I no longer needed them. The words seemed hollow. He should have been more proud of me for being a kind, thoughtful, decent person. Those words should have came when I needed them. Be proud of yourself and love yourself.

In The 6th Sense, and I hope you've seen it in this isn't a spoiler, the mom asked her mother if she made her proud. Because it was at her grave, it was too late to get an answer, until her ghost did. I think most of us have not had a parent say those words. They may not think about it. Maybe the thing to do, is to ask for them. You may be surprised. He may be shocked that you had to ask. And if you says no, you won't have to keep questioning if he is, knowing that you won't get an answer after he's gone. And if there's things you're proud of him for, and you haven't told him, he's likely wondering the same thing. ❤

So many of us want approval from father's that were absent or distant. I sure did. As a female it definitely gave me trust issues with men though I wasn't intuitive to realize it when I was young. Only now (in my 60's) do I realize it wasn't about me and he did the best he was capable of I guess. He passed away and while I regret not knowing him better I know it had nothing to do with me. Even if your father seemed to approve of your accomplishments, the greatest dads love you regardless. Hope you got some of that from your stepdad. Sometimes they are the real fathers.

Hi-I hope you are doing well, this time of the year always seems to cause my depression and anxiety worst. This song never ceases to leave me a wreck. I’ve been watching ur reactions and I feel like giving you a hug or maybe just needing to be hugged myself. James Blunt served as a tank commander during NATO’s intervention in the Balkans. I really think you should react to two songs of his: No Bravery and Carry you home. He is a fantastic lyricist and somehow the uniqueness of his voice appears to really convey emotions. By the way- I have subscribed to your channel because I’ve been battling Clinical Depression and Anxiety all my life. I’ve tried suicide multiple times and obviously I’m not very good at that either, because I’m still here. Anyways, I saw ur reaction to Hi Ren and felt ur pain. I hope that by your reaction videos you have found a way to feel connected to people again. I also wanted to thank you for your service. I currently have two nephews in the Military and so I think a recognition of being the type of individuals that feel service To their Country is still very important, is the very least every American should be filled with gratitude. Sorry such a long comment, your reactions and story really moves me. Thank you again!

For some people "Father" and "Dad or Daddy" are the same person. For others it isn't. If the man who raised you and loved you is the one you called Dad, then that's the man who matters the most. If you can find reconciliation with your bio dad and he does his part to be more than a sperm doner, that's great. But a real parent loves, accepts and is proud of their child automatically. The child might do some kind of horrible thing to mess that up but they shouldn't have to earn it in the first place. If he can't see you and be proud of you for the man that you are, it's his loss. Thank you for allowing us into your life.

The line about ‘I’m not your son, you’re not my father’ is something James would say to his dad whenever he did a tour of duty. I believe it’s a tradition in the military. I guess it’s a way of dealing with the possibility that they may not come back from active duty.
