Some context here: So in the lore of Elden Ring Malenia is a vessel for the outer god of rot and has been from the moment of her birth. She was born with her twin brother Miquella, who was cursed with eternal youth, so the statue you thought was of a mother and child was depicting Malenia and Miquella. The scarlet rot was slowly destroying her body and at the moment you fight her she's lost an arm, a whole leg, half of her other leg and her eyes. She did everything she could to resist the rot and was not a willing vessel. Because of her brothers weak body, Malenia took it upon herself to fight for her brother and is known in the game as the Blade of Miquella. She was fighting for his right to godhood not her own. Miquella made it his mission to cure his sister and he figured out that unalloyed gold (unalloyed means the material is pure and has no other mixtures) "purest gold" could ward away the meddeling of outer gods. So he crafted for her prosthetics of unalloyed gold and an unalloyed gold needle to be inserted into her flesh. These stall the rotting sickness until a cure could be made. However, before a cure was made, the Elden Ring was broken and the demigods (including the twins) fought in a huge war known as the Shattering. In this war Malenia and Radahn (the huge dude with the swords) were the final two fighting and the battle ended in stalemate when Malenia bloomed (let the rot free) for the first time. It was said that when Malenia would bloom for the third time she would become the Goddess of Rot. In game, you can find a broken unalloyed needle at the site of their battle and it is unclear weather Malenia's bloom was intentional or not. After the battle, one of Malenia's knights, Finlay, carried her slumbering body all the way back to the Haligtree, a place Miquella created to be a safe haven for those persecuted in society. Somewhere around that time, before or during that battle, Miquella was stolen from the Haligtree, his home, and he has not been seen since. So Malenia slumbers at the Root of the Haligtree, waiting, hoping for her brother to return home. As is heard in this song: "I've waited so long for you carrying on for you onto the faintest hope I hold. I've waited so long for you carried this burden to fend off the fortunes long foretold. To Rot in Purest Gold" As for "Every sorry soul shall know my name" she tells you "I am Malenia, Blade of Miquella" every time she kills you... And as she's considered the hardest boss in the game, you die to her a lot. On average depending on the build 50-200 times. Sometimes more sometimes less, but you won't be forgetting her name anytime soon. And lastly, this song is a fanproduction and the simping for Mommy Malenia is real ❤ ...Aand this must be the longest comment I've ever written, sorry for the essay 😂

I believe this is inspired by the game but not used in the game as it was written after the game had been out for awhile

I love finding reaction videos to this song so I can see people's reactions to that first pre-chorus. Everyone goes nuts for that "I'VE WAITED SO LONG FOR YOU" because that's such a fantastically performed line. Of course, you gave that level of reaction to most of this song, and no surprises there but honestly how delightfully expressive you are is kinda what I watch reaction vids for so well done on your half of the bargain. Gav (miracle of sound) has done a ton of fantastic rock and metal songs if you like this, but honestly this is perhaps his best song (so far)

Gavin has written for games but I think this one was "inspired by" rather than written for. He wrote "Valhalla Calling" specifically , I believe, for Assassin's Creed. Elizabeth's vocals are incredible and fit this song so well. Although he sings a lot of his tracks himself (as well as doing all the instrumentation etc.) he also works with some wonderful vocalists and just does background vocals to the guest artist. Definitely well worth checking out more of his work.

Hey there! I play games since I was born and I always though I would never be good enought to beat any soulslike game. I loved watching people play those videogames, but I always thought it was a waste of time for me because I was going to die A LOT and would get me frustrated. Then... I saw Elizabeth made a collab and sang as Malenia. I watched a friend of mine playing Elden Ring on stream and fell in love with Malenia's character, battlefield, music, fight... It was like an elegant and deadly dance. So when I listened to this song, I went to Miracle of sound's channel and listened to the rest of Elden Ring songs. Then, I got interested on the lore, watched lore videos... And, in the end, told that same friend "hey, I know it may sound strange but I am interested on Elden Ring". Two days later, I was playing the game. Surprisingly, I did not give up the game. I died a thousand times, did not have fun in some fights because I felt they were unfair... but had a lot of fun and discovered a side of me I never thought I had. I ended up loving that "boss moment" in which you have to learn their patterns. It was like leveling up in real life. Finally I faced Malenia. I was amazed and terrified. I thought she was too much for me. Six hours later, I heard "O, dear Miquella..." Two days later, after beating Elden Ring, I was giving Sekiro a go... and finished the game a few days before Elden Ring's DLC release. Having say that, I want to encourage everyone to try those games if you feel interested. Never think you're not good enough. It takes a bit longer to beat those games because of the learning process, but once you understand the patterns, how to dodge and when to attack, the feeling is so satisfying.

Also Elizabeth Zharof (charismatic voice for those who don't know) is an opera singer but in that song she is a Dragonslayer I mean the feeling of the song, her vocals combined with music is some DRAGONSLAYING ACTIVITY.

I was there for the premiere, seeing Elizabeth talk about different aspects of the song was incredible, many layers of vocals, Gavin gave E carte blanche to arrange them how she saw fit, knowing how good she is. I never got into Elden ring, nor did I grovel at the feet of lady D but still an absolute masterpiece of music regardless.

10:49 Find an image of her second stage and you'll understand the _relative_ lack of thirst. Her eyes, as well as her primary and secondary sexual characteristics, are completely rotted away by the Scarlet Rot. Lady Dimitrescu at least still has flesh in the relevant areas, even if it's presumably cold.

I really enjoyed the original video even though I don't play video games or RPGs. But Elizabeth's voice is just divine. Thanks for the review. I know how you felt. Watching you stunned by E's vocals brought tears to my eyes, NGL. A couple other performances by Elizabeth you could review: "Martern aller arten" A young Elizabeth performs for the Queen Elizabeth (of Denmark, I think) competition kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z4me1LmnqKi3g5s.html And if you're interested she actually did a review and analysis of herself. LAMENT OF THE HIGHBORNE, in Elvish, but man is it creepy. kzread.info/dash/bejne/foCs06ibgMK3kbQ.html

Happy to see people discovering this gem of a collab! If I may suggest a follow-up; this song has a companion piece by the same artist, about the big 'Kaiju man' she fought in this video. That one is also a metal song, sort of giving the other perspective on this (pretty epic) fight.
