This Was Meant To Be Relaxing! When NARROWBOAT LIFE Is Too Eventful Ep 69

It should have been a stress-free 6 hour narrowboat cruise to Fradley Junction, but it turned into a rescue mission and things flying overboard! Join us on our epic journey to the Crick Boat Show with fellow narrowboat live aboards, Paul and Anthony on Narrowboat Morning Star from KZread channel ‪@NarrowboatLifeUnlocked‬. In this episode we leave Great Haywood on our narrowboat One Day More, and head to Fradley Junction on the Trent & Mersey Canal, part of the Four Counties Ring.

The scenery was so pretty and green. The one tunnel sure was narrow. I thought Pete was going to scrape the sides! That was nice of Paul to help the elderly woman and take her to the marina where her friend could pick her up. I wonder if that was her first time on a narrow boat.

What a lovely day and cruise. The spring weather was gorgeous. I love seeing all the canal gardens and what people do with them. I like seeing all the different boats as well. And with a little excitement too! I'm so glad someone was there to help the lady. I'm not great a backing up so that wouldn't have worked out for me. I'd have to turn and go out forward. 😊 I am loving the back up camera in the "new" car. ❤

Hi Dorothy! My last car in America didn’t have a back up camera and I never knew how much easier it was until we got one here in the UK with one! I’m far better backing up in a car than a boat though! I am determined to get more confident at the tiller though this year. It was so windy that day that Pete was worried about turning around and being caught by the wind and knocking into the other moored boats. We said it was so lucky that Paul was padding in his boat just as the old lady fell. And the staff at the marina were absolutely wonderful. Not the fastest rescue vehicles at 3mph but they did the job that day! Glad you are enjoying have a nosey into the back gardens with us 😊

Like so many others though I am guessing 😂. Poppy is very picky about who she does and doesn’t bark at, it quite funny! And Hamish just barks when he needs to get off or he’s trapped inside and can’t get up the steps, or he thinks he’s been left (which he usually hasn’t!) We are so happy to have you aboard 😊

I know the vlog is one year back, but I have wondered for a time now: Why is your propeller axle (shaft) "singing"? Du you have a bad bearing or do you have a turbocharger on the engine? Hope the problem has been fixed in the year that has gone since the vlog 🙂 Thanks for good filming and storytelling! Love from Denmark

Thanks for watching, glad you’re enjoying the vlogs. You’re right, the noise you can hear is the propeller “singing”. We had a new propeller fitted and ever since we’ve had the singing when on tickover (but not at higher revs). It’s apparently very common with brand new props if they are “too perfect”. In time we’re hoping that general fouling will help stop this, or maybe a small nick on one of the blades (not that we want to damage it). Below is a link to the vlog when we had the new prop fitted… kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZqCjj8lyj8e_krA.htmlsi=1-kGHafdWqMdz4Cb 😀♥️

We still don’t have definite cruising plans. We think we have it sorted and then there’s a landslide blocking the canal which changes them all over again! It’s good to be so flexible though and just go where the mood takes us! 😊

Thank you! We have been really happy with the boat and two years in there are very few things we would change. It sounds like a good idea for a future video actually! We have upgraded the batteries which has made a big difference to our power. The ones that we had at the start were adequate if we were staying in a marina and going out for a few weeks here and there, but as continuous cruisers we were finding that in winter with the shorter days and lower angle of the sun, the solar panels were not generating enough power and we were having to run our engine in the evening to charge the batteries. The new lithium batteries we now have a far better for the way we cruise. The only other major thing we would change is to perhaps have a semi cruiser stern instead of a cruiser stern, with seats forward of the tiller arm, instead of in the arc of the tiller arm. We added a few extra shelves here and there and found some great storage solutions, but all in all we are very pleased with the decisions we made! 😊
