There is something timeless about going out to these smaller islands. I visited Jura on a bikepacking trip back before the millennium. I’d already been on Arran and done some hills there, then cycled to Lochranza to catch a ferry, another short ride across the peninsula and another ferry to Islay. The ferry should have docked into Port Askaig, but the narrow channel was too rough so I was deposited at Port Ellen instead. My accommodation was over at Port Askaig so I ended up pedalling across in a bit of a headwind. Apparently Islay is known for the winds! The next day I caught a small ferry boat over to Jura, pedalled in as far as could and then did the “Paps” from that side. I had lovely clear weather. Thanks for sharing Murray!

Fantastic I went last September but took my car travelling up from south wales is a fair way but then a long ferry crossing to Islay then we drove across that island to catch yet another ferry to get to Jura no wonder the Jura distillery says it’s easier to get to Peru than Jura 😆 anyway we stayed at the hotel at Craig house which was fantastic did the paps which were awesome I nearly stepped on a large adder snake 😮 but what a trip your right that was Arran and Northern Ireland you could see wonderful hills I will be back as the northern half of Jura looks interesting on the map with two remote bothies up there thanks for sharing very good inspiration to get back there again cheers

That was quite an expedition, one of your best IMHO. Leaving the pack at the bealach is not cheating its common sense, the challenge is finding it again.

Brings back many fond memories of when my family, along with my cousin Douglas decided to tackle Beinn an Oìr in 2018. My sister is named after the Isle of Jura and each time we visit Islay to see family we always take a day to go and visit my sister island. My cousin booked a later ferry crossing back from the Jura to Islay so we had the entire day to take our time and summit the mountain. It was a balmy 30 degree July day, not a cloud in the sky, was an absolute glorious day to be on the mountain. We then topped it off with a visit to the Jura Hotel for a much earned meal and a wee dram of whisky. It was an adventure we won't soon forget! Yet another great video Murry! Makes me long for a return to the hebrides

Kudos for climbing those hills with a tent on your back. They are certainly tough. I had a spectacularly bad off day when I climbed these last summer, which was a shame, as I often see them from my living room in Ayrshire and had been planning the trip for ages! However I spent two nights on Jura with friends, and it is such a lovely friendly island so I'll definitely be back for another go, maybe out of midge season. I remember the ground between Beinn Chaolais and Lochan t-Siob being energy-sappingly boggy and tussocky so going over that extra hill may have actually saved you a bit of time and energy as well as affording spectacular views.

Thankyou Murray for yet another wonderful video. We watch you slog it out with the funniest text trying to cope with your accent, from Ballarat, Australia. I’m from Melbourne and met my Scottish Alistair when travelling: kids born in Inverness, Elgin and Forres… then to Australia in ‘87, now retired in Ballarat. We’ll return to visit family and check out the Western Isles in ‘24. Your delightful videos show us how one COULD do it…. However, it’ll be golf courses for Alistair and chasing sheep fleeces and designers for me. You give us so much joy!

My mate and I managed Beinn Shiantaidh and Beinn an Oir but bailed out of last one. They are indeed very steep. Just back from Rum and they are equally steep!! I put a video on YT about 8 years ago called Jura August 2014 not nearly as professional as yours but great memories.

Hi Murry, do viewers pass comment in a negative way about the weather when it comes in. I often wonder as you mention the weather when it closes in. I'd understand wanting to share the views when the weather is clear as it's pure magic. For me I'm truly grateful that you get out there rain or sun. I think your videos are awesome. Your videos are always accurate and shows really well the need for good clothing, skills, and determination to get out of there. For the record i love the beautiful views but i also really love the parts of your video when your grinding out the Kms in the rain and wind, slogging up a hill or along the glen. Video can never fully capture the awesome majesty of the hills but when the weathers in it feels more personal watching you wrapped up in the wet weather gear with the mist and or rain Swerling around you battling on not sure if you will be rewarded by clear views. What I've gone a long way around saying is your vids are great rain or shine. Cheers

Always wanted to visit Jura, that hasn't changed after watching your wild Camp and hike adventure there😊👍 What a stunning place. The paths looked very challenging, we were rooting for those views to appear for you after all your hard work! But what you did see was beautiful. We hope you managed to sample some jura whisky on your trip? Thanks for taking us along, epic as always 😊👌

Stunning Murray, the mountains look so peaceful and isolated, a walkers dream :-) I suspect you where right about Northern Ireland, probably the Antrim coast you could see. Just wondering if you have ever walked in the Outer Hebrides? I was on Harris last year on a family holiday and the hills looked like they would be great for a walking trip.

The moment you left your backpack... I had chills. I assume you've taken out GPS and first aid, but honestly can't see neither water nor emergency clothes layers. I hate to be a party pooper, I know you are experienced and leaving a backpack only for a wee while, but I think you know the best what could go wrong (and I don't mean getting lost, I'd fear a fall and it's repercussions). Touch wood, stay safe, and thank you for another great video.

I enjoy your time spent in camp, almost as much as the climbing scenes. Any idea why there are so many sharp edged rocks up there; geologically speaking? Must be ice/water freezing in the crevices and breaking them off? I laughed so much, when you said, " I don't know where I am!"
