This and their next and final album, the sound of perseverance, to me, are the first and second best metal albums ever made. I think that's where you should go next.

Thanks for the awesome reaction(s)! I really appreciate the outro on this final song, a lot of bands will try to do something super flashy and in-your-face for the outro, but Death has been doing that stuff all album, so an enchanting chilled out acoustic part feels perfect to me.

Fantastic album.

To me symbolic was the most musically accomplished effort from tbis band. Some say human had better atmospheres while still being more rooted to death metal, but this album as a piece of music, not just metal, is simply outstanding and paved the way for a lot of melodic and technical death metal bands. Btw i saw them at a festival in 2016/2017, it was obscura's singer at the vocals and when they played symbolic it was mesmerising. Truly an unique musical experience.

i love all death albums but this one imo was very personal for chuck, as he said "my lyrics are an open book" - all his thoughts, emotions and fears are so poetically transmitted. perennial quest alongside symbolic is prolly the saddest songs of all his discography. symbolic being a farewell to childhood and perennial - farewell to the band itself (since it supposed to be the last song of their last album)

so cool, my favorite album of all time, with Rotten Apple EP by Alice in Chains, and close ones Grin by Cononer, Blackwater Park and Ride the Lightning... I feel a song from Damnation is coming haha :)

Recommend experience the UK demo bootlegs released material "A Tribute To Chuck Schuldiner" from the "Symbolic" album and live Death recordings from 95.

You HAVE to listen to Storm Of The Light's Bane by Dissection. Best band beside Death
