just to reiterate there's also a place called Mantalongon in Barili which also has a public market named Mantalongon Public Market, in case someone gets confused, these are two different locations although they both on the south side of the island but they are from different municipalities. The one on the video is in the Municipality of Dalaguete. The one in Barili is more well known because it's a common route for public transport especially for travellers heading to Badian and Moalboal.

It's beautiful up there. My wife and I go there regularly as she's from Catolohan, in fact we're going tomorrow for her mom's birthday. It's a welcome respite for us as we live in Liloan and it's quite noisy in our subdivision. The mountainous region there is so peaceful and the air so fresh it reminds me of my home city in Washington State, U.S. Thank you for highlighting this area. New sub from me!

@Gawens...The idea of arranging cabbages upside down in the basket is absolutely brilliant to prevent from drenching from the rain during transit. That's the reason also why they didn't remove the outer loose leaves of the cabbages. If you notice, the other cabbages in other baskets have their outer leaves gone already and what remains are the 'head' which are ready for the market.

As far as I know, Mantalongon is not the only trading hub for vegetables in Cebu. Nug-as, a mountain barangay in Alcoy, also produces cool-climate crops for long years. But I think the mountainous regions of almost all towns and cities in Cebu have farming communities producing cool-climate crops foremost of which are Cebu City, Toledo, Carcar, Danao, Alegria, Malabuyoc, Argao, Sibonga, Badian, Balamban, San Fernando, etc.

This is true. I had a conversation with habal- habal drivers which my gopro failed to record, they said there are roads paved and not paved, some are so steep connecting to these towns and places you mentioned. But most farmers prefer and love to sell their crops in Mantalongon than in their town's local markets. Thanks for commenting. 🫡

I thought Mantalongon is the vegetable basket of Cebu. Sobrang malamig doon, vegetables are grown in the highlands. It is just like Baguio.

We are visiting Cebu on July so we are planning to go and visit Mantalongon and Alcoy, thanks to you! Hopefully we can get some organically produced veggies, herbs and spices which are locally grown.

Actually, you can drive your scooter or any vehicle, for that matter, from east to west, south to north, crisscrossing the mountains, valleys, jungles, farmlands, ridges, on the main island of Cebu. All towns and cities in all of Cebu are interconnected to each other by one-lane but well-paved roads. There are also few two-lane roads that connect between two or more coastal towns on both east and west sides. 80% of the one-lane mountains roads (so-called farm-to-market and tourism roads) is either concrete or asphalt. The rest is still undergoing concreting or still unpaved.

The green/leaf onions @ 19:44 are huge almost as big as leeks. Those "bukag" @ 18:30 filled with cabbage would be at least as heavy as a person that the 'cargador' wobbled when carrying it on his back, but somebody's got to do it. Great variety of fresh and healthy produce. I still wonder how and where they get their water to grow their vegetables. I've only been to this place once and it was nighttime already. We had brought crabs from the islands and spent the whole night drinking beer. It was not good for stomach we spent the early morning doing Jackson Pollock art 😆. That was 1988 and the road was gravel making it hard for the vegetable to reach the markets because the steep inclines would cause the heavy loaded trucks to swerve and crash. Not many trucks would do the trips. A government agency formed a cooperative so the farmers could buy their own truck. But now they got those roads paved! Well and good for them. I appreciate how you do your videos in Visayan. Makes it authentic and convey your message suitably to a target audience, but with English captions when needed. Great video. Thanks.

@linikit...Who needs water if there's constant moisture in the form of fogs? But yes, water is abundant in this part of Cebu and most other mountainous parts of Cebu, south to north. If you see lush forest and vegetation, that indicates the presence of shallow water table or water aquifers. Because those trees and lush vegetations get their water from the same ground.

@@lionhearted1969 You could be correct. In the Book of Genesis in the Old Testament, Bible, it talks about the garden of Eden before the 'fall of man' to sin that the fog watered the plants. But see I am not a good gardener, not a "green thumb" and from my perspective nowadays plants need watering purposely. Yes I see lush vegetation, but trees have deeper roots to reach a shallow water table which in this case not even shallow because the elevation here is really high. Also, majority of non-tree vegetation are weeds that are very hardy plants. If you are one of the farmers there, then I am inclined to believe you. Nice talking to you.
