@@f.jideament The entire point of adding limits to games is so you have something to overcome, because that feels good. It makes it more interesting, making you think about how to deal with and overcome the downsides. It one person might use one method, someone else might use another. Drops are limited so you have something to work towards, a simple goal. damage is limited so you fight the bosses and have to engage with the mechanics, which is fun. Defense is limited so you have to pay attention and don't just autopilot through maps, because the enemies can be a real threat. Every time players are limited, it is with a goal and intention in mind for why. If every map you dropped a mirror, nobody would care when they got one.

@@Alterpexsis you're already having these kind of things in real life. What is making the game special for you? Why don't you just live instead of gaming? What is the point of 'playing' if you're also limited in a game. Is it fun? Are you having fun in your real life while having limitations? I mean, I understand your points obviously but these points are too old to be true for our timeline. Developers should get better at designing and imagination for removing all possible limitations or we will have these zombie mindsets all over the place forever as if we're not having enough of it since the D2.

I've never tried to build around this shield but your deep dive is certainly giving me ideas. Down the POB rabbit hole I go. This could take a while :D

Another way to keep Everlasting Sacrifice up is moderate to high evasion + ghost dance. Even with high evasion, you will eventually get hit and if you have enough evasion, this will recover energy shield to full instantly. This is the method I used when I was playing Doryani LS Champ with this shield in Kalandra. You didn't have 100% uptime on the sacrifice but it was up at least 80% of the time there were enemies around to hit you.

These deep dives are some of the most informative PoE content out there, really well done!

.....after watching this in depth crazy video of this extraordinary item, i have no idea what the benefits are', also if they are even worth the headache that this weapon provides.

I once made a Doryani's touch build using the shield. With doryani's prototype and tempered by war it makes it much safer to downscale your resistances and still cap fire and chaos, furthermore it also negates the downside of doryani's prototype that resistance doesn't apply to lightning damage, since it will be taken as fire and chaos.

Doryani's prototype is bad with tempered by war, 50% less lightning resistance actually gain resistance when it negative. Almost unreal to get -200 cap without kalandra's jewellery.

@@Kardeell Oh yeah that's true. I made it long ago and altough I know how less resistance works now, I didn't at the time. So I only realized that fact now XD. In my opinion it would make way more sense if it just lowered resistances by 50 flat instead.

Mahuxotl's + Rakiata (Tempered by War) is immediately what comes to mind when I think of this shield. Some of those lethal prides also happen to have a couple of notables in the vicinity roll the highly sought-after phys taken as fire mod. The big point of pain of truly minmaxing this, as you say, is that Pathfinder is probably the single best-positioned ascendancy to take advantage of this setup, but she craves the two AR/ES masteries *so badly*, because they both line up so well with Mahuxotl's/Tempered by War, but they're all the way on the exact opposite end of the tree from Pathfinder's starting location, along with the location of nature's remedies. If we had some sort of jewel that let us wormhole through the passive tree to pick up AR/ES passives from ranger start without blowing a zillion points traveling, that'd be absolutely nasty. Also, one thing to note--without Eldritch Battery, the increased ES granted by corrupted soul is inherently all *downside* in that it's more to fill up for practically no particular purpose besides the occasional overleech. So, a replica sorrow of the divine might be a great way to go with this on Pathfinder, or a Diadem to make more consistent use of that ES, albeit at the massive opportunity cost of a huge source of phys taken as. I remember UberDan was going fourth vow with the Rakiata/Mahuxotl setup in Sanctum league hardcore trade. And then there's also the issue of the cost of the Mahuxotl's *and* the lethal pride. I remember at one point (was it Kalandra?) in which Mahuxotl's cost 50 divines (or at least, what are now divines), which was an obscene price. From what I understand, Mahuxotl is a bit cheaper these days? But maybe Crucible is just an aberration because uniques are super-hard to get crucible trees for? In any case, fantastic video.

You can do some life reservation with new life mastery - You count as on Full Life while at 90% of maximum Life or above btw

They' really informative and despite playing poe on and off since open beta, I have learned so mamy new things about interactions of keystones amd items and just wanted to say you're doing a crackin job. You've helped me get so mamy ideas for new builds I wanna experiment with which is what I find so fun with Poe so Thank you :)

Consider also using Doppleganger's Guise, which grants 30-40% reduced physical/chaos damage taken while its defense buff is selected(it's a toggle, so you can pick offense or defense as needed). You already have very high chaos resistance due to stacking and the +5/10% max from the shield, you mitigate a large chunk of the physical coming in, and oh yeah a lot of your damage is turned into chaos which is now double resisted.

First time really getting an explanation on the item. It does seem really powerful if you build around it. I'll have to look into pobs and build costs before experimenting

Thanks for the vid! I tried to work this into my Doriyani's -240% lightning rez lightning conduit build from Kalandra league but when I put it together in standard I haven't been great at following through with it. One of these days I'll fix it up so that I completely work in having every bit of damage taken as something other than lightning lol.

iv actually tried this as my last build in Crucible, then same day when i did quit the league i saw ur video about Divine Flesh and Tempered By War, about what i just learned like 2-3 weeks ago, wish i saw ur video earlier, since guy in build guide just briefly touched combo of those two, so i had to figure it out whats going on, took me long time to figure out how exactly it works. iv tested it as COC Forbidden Rite Pathfinder, its was pretty complicated build but it was also really fast and fun. it also included that chest Cloak of Flame that u mentioned in this video, along Mahu shield. man i had such a good time, 100% would recommend it to any1. again, i wish i saw ur video earlier, u do really nice explanations and make really complicated mechanic easy to understand, which is pretty rare those days.

Used this on a CoC FR poison pathfinder this league and it's one of the tankiest builds I've ever played. Did not even use the life flask tech as I preferred the poison nodes, but progenesis goes real hard there.

Great video. When I first saw the shield I tried to find a video that could explain the mechanics of it and how you would build around it, but nothing showed, so I never got around to trying it out. Sadly I likely won't get one before PoE2, and who knows what they will do with uniques there.

Thanks! I think almost all or all the uniques will still be available in PoE2, they'll just be balanced around new systems - a lot of the uniques are supporter uniques so they'll honor that pledge to keep those items in the game, although they have full control over balance passes

I hope you cover strength stacking melee in the future.

My favorite shield that is basically unobtainable in league on ssf because of the delve boss piece for the map. Everything else is not too bad to farm in ssf but delve rng can screw you hard on delve boss nodes. You can try farming mad king cards for that but that is also random af to get.

Well thanks for inspiration. Now I am planning to do a ignite build with cloak of flames + replica emberwake and alsu using demon stitches. With this I will not have to cast all the time just ignite enemy. Also will be a pathfinder and there will be no problems on flask uptime on ruby flask. This will allow me to get even less damage taken. I haven't planned yet but the plan is something like this in general Potential skills are hexblast, flameblast or some phys spell. Tho I doubt that I will use that cause pf don't have shaper of flames.

I tried the whole Mahuxotl's Machination/Tempered By War/Pathfinder/Fourth Vow shenanigans. It's insane. Poison builds seem to work the best so I went with Impending Doom.

Shoutout to midmax who's got a working build already, just recently released the pob and it slaps ❤

I've made at least one build with this each league it's been available, love it :D

Love this shield. Using this in a build this league for a character that can tank triple uber shaper beam, slam+beam and whatever else uber elder has to offer.

On life mastery you can pick up point 95% life counts as maximum life. So you can reserve a small aura like low lvl clarity vitality or something if you need it from a mod for watchers eye like life gain on hit while affected by vitality

When Sirgog covered the shield two years ago, I posted about all the ways I could find of gaining ES. Some of these things are no longer relevant, but this could be a fun conversation starter. For what it's worth, here are several other ways to recover ES: ES leech in general: Plenty of nodes on the tree for spells and non-physical damage types. The Energy Leech Support will ALWAYS have its "while leeching energy shield" line active since you can never be at full ES while wearing Mahuxotl's Machination so that's an easy and generic 39% More damage. Similar thing for the Essence Rush cluster notable (large spell damage) where its effects will always be active so long as you're leeching ES. Supreme Decadence (Cadiro Elegant Hubris): Life Recovery from flasks also applies to ES (but 30% less base life recovery from flasks) Tinkerskin body armor: Recover 50 ES when your trap is triggered by an enemy Fenumus' Spinnerets boots: Gain 15-20 ES for each enemy you hit which is affected by a Spider's Web Watcher's Eye has a notable Discipline line: +20-30 ES gained on hit Crafted suffix body armor mod: Recover 23-25% or 26-28% or 29-31% of ES (and mana) when you focus (focus has a base CD of 12 seconds so it won't really be useful for reliable Mahuxotl use) Unveiled suffix body armor mod: Recover 37-40% of ES (and mana) when you focus. Absorption Charges from Graven's Secret recoup 12% of elemental damage taken as ES each. Alas, this has limited use given Divine Flesh. Prismatic and Cobalt (and bricked Timeless) jewel suffix: 2-3 ES per attack hit (lol) Brush With Death cluster notable: 1% ES recovered on kill Trickster: Recover X% of ES on kill (X being the number of different Masteries you've taken) Shadowstitch body armor: recover 3-5% ES on kill Shaper/Crusader suffix body armor mod: Recover 3-4% or 5-6% ES on kill Voidbringer: 15-20 ES gained on kill Malachai's Mark: 15-25 ES gained on kill Hale Negator: Recover 2-3% ES when you lose a spirit charge (only lose spirit charges on taking a Savage Hit, and a SH is 15% or more damage to one's life) Cinderswallow Urn: Recover 1-3% ES when you kill an enemy during flask effect Replica Blood Sacrifice: Recover 1% ES on kill (at cost of no mana leech or regen)

There is also synth jewel implicit for % of spell dmg leeched as ES.

The only thing we need to make Mahuxotl's Machination shine even more , is to somehow (I know it does not exist for now) , but maybe in next patches - is to find a way to deal self-spell damage. We just need to take small hits of spell damage often enough. For example if Storm Secret would hit us with spell damage. That would be insane!!!

The Golden Rule+Tainted Pact. I ran an insane build in crucible with those 2. The shield just amplifies it. Unless I missed something, that should be a banger.

Pohx made a crazy build with this many leagues ago, Ball Lightning mana based Heirophant that needed the full cold and lightning immune for doryani's chest. It's very cool, but I feel like getting the most out of it is too complicated for my enjoyment.

Have you seen ward loop?

You're forgetting one crucial mechanic which is that petrified blood sets your maximum life to 50% and that 50% counts as being full life for immortal ambition. Allowing you 49% of life able to be reserved. Atleast that's what i learned from another YT video explaining this same shield. Will link video when i find it again.

Im a lil high and this vid is soooo good

Wanted to use this with tainted pact, it was a headache to get enough damage for the build to feel usable, ended up using splitting steel champ aura stacker, feels very strong being able to ignore every degen in the game very fun, I ended up giving up on the build it still feels a bit incomplete Considering trying reap chiften with it next, with that I would get fire damage leech and 100% rés wich might help focusing on other stuff

use it for poison ms/ls. Kill all ubers and spec to other build, to slow for maping. But def with tempered by war is insane, never felt so strong

I really want to try to build a pathfinder around this shield next league.... not sure what to do for damage yet though

Havent played since a couple weeks after 3.21 but if this goes unchanged i may try a build using this on either a jugg or chieftain in 3.22. Its just too bad this setup doesnt do much for damage considering all the hoops to jump through. Although i guess there are plenty of other items this setup would make easier to use to damage too

Every few leagues the trialmaster should drop a new 6 keystone item.

Don’t forget you have the passive skill “you’re considered as full life at 90%” so you can have minimum reservation to your life if you have that life notable and still leech es

Perfect, I love tanky builds!

The shield is def one of the better examples of a really well-balanced power fantasy unique. While it does give incredible defenses, it requires additional setup and locks you into a single 1h weapon to be used, which is a pretty big impact on damage for many builds, while the shield itself doesn't provide any significant natural shield benefits.

I got it after my second boss fight. Wonder how lucky that was

I do think the pathfinder interaction is pretty funny, but i wond how much of a tank you can be withthe jugg passive. Then, theres the issue with damage. I managed to come up with a Frost Blade build and a Pestilence Strike buils, both on pathfinder, with this shield

As for Physical DoT - it's basically only Corrupted blood and Bleeding. Impale doesn't considered as a DoT AFAIK I'd look into other keystone instead of Tempered by War. Transcendence Sure -5% to all max res is big, but this can be avoided by capping fire res that we would still have at 80% (85%+ at PoF lvl 23) and legacy melding All that left after this is to take all phys from hits as elemental damage (note that for this case - you're not limited to fire and chaos like with Tempered by war, so it should be easier to cap it) and get immunity to corrupted blood and bleeding, which you can get from Mageblood flask on pair with ~140% ele res and 70% chaos res) If you do all right - you'll have reduction of 99% of all phys and ele hits (with 90% ele res and 90% phys res) and 80%+ from chaos (born in chaos gives +3% max chaos res so it's option here and +1 chaos res and 18% taken as chaos from Body armour Hunter Elevated mod) Will add that you can get Body armour that converts 48% of phys hits into ele or chaos 1 prefix - elevated Hunter mod (18%) 2 prefix - elevated Warlord/Elder (18% + some recoup) 3 prefix - hybrid bench crafted (6% fire and 6% lightning) No life mod? Yes, sad, but life mastery +15% life if no life mod on bodyarmour will fix it :) Overall - nice way to achieve near immortality (with nice recovery layer which also can be get from flasks with 15% (30% with MB) damage taken is leeched), and Mahuxotl's Machination works pretty nice here with this

Transcendence is -15% to all maximum elemental resistances. You can't really use Machination with Transcendence since you'll start to really struggle with gearing. Transcendence and a max roll Melding is already -19% to all maximum elemental resistances, and you can't afford to use Loreweave since you need the body armour slot for Lightning Coil or Cloak, as you can't use Dawnbreaker. You could only really consider somehow stacking enough additional PDR to cover physical damage, which may be somewhat doable on Juggernaut with 10 charges, but the problem on maximum elemental resistances still remains - if you went the APDR direction, you could use Brass Dome, Brine Crown and Purity of Ice with some aura effect, which should get you back to 75% or close to it. Edit: You can't stack multiple phys taken as X mods on gear, they share the same mod pool and are limited to 1

You can only have one mod phys taken as on your body armor

Finally built around this shield this league and it's one of my favorite characters! Went poison totem explode and used suffixes for so much qol stuff like recoup, suppress, flask mods, cast speed (trap throwing speed with slavedrivers). Purity of Fire is very good for the max res and the watchers eye mod that gives phys taken as fire. You can also get phys taken as fire on notables through the tempered by war jewel timeless jewel.

hello this one was very interesting. I was thinking a lot of using the shield with some kind of build, but haven´t decided which one yet. I kinda wanna implement tainted pact with golden rule and some poison stacking which would additionally heal me, but not sure if machinations don´t block that. it says Taking Chaos Damage over Time heals you instead while Leeching Life. leech should work in that case. And maybe with enough healing over time with this item, the game would calculate the full life even with boneshatter. but that´s just speculations. making a super tanky character is kinda fun, but it´s pretty hard to get dmg. some kind of stacking helps a lot, like str, accuracy or armor but over all not sure which build I should go. anyway hyped for exilecon presentation in 12 days and hope for poe2 release. the teaser is there but not sure if they actually meant it that way. we will see soon enough.

In regards to tainted pact, it will function similar to strength of blood, where you are required to be leeching life to gain the benefit - Immortal Ambition will recover energy shield instead of life when you're at full life. You can prevent this from happening by reserving some of your life so that you never reach actual full life, and life leech will still continue to function upon reaching unreserved maximum life. You could also likely get away with some kind of sacrifice or self damage mechanic, since life leech instances are not removed even if you reach actual full life, therefore you could sacrifice on an interval to refresh life leech stacks

​@@dreamcore_gg now the question is what kind of build is avaliable with that setup? it needs to be life build, attack based with a shield, so a wand for range or one hander for melee, I kinda liked frostblades, but what is even meta "melee" skill? venom gyre, spectral shield throw, some people even play forbidden rite and lightning strike, cyclone here or there and that´s about it.

Its very important items like this exist firstly to give players soething worthwhile to chase as a long-term SSF challenge and secondly to confuse the shit out of me. lol

dont know if it is my ssf mentality or not, considering through how much specific items you have to go to make it work, i think it should be in the core drop pool instead, again could be that it is my ssf andy mind thinking here but meh, its very much alot you have to gain to make it work but its ggg and and i have dreams too, neither of these two will make it so that it is in core :P

What can I do to increase max hits taken for trickster so I can survive boss mechanics?

What about using it with Petrified Blood and Defiance of Destiny?

It would have been a deeply funny joke if you'd put out a keystone highlight on everlasting sacrifice with no context

this shield is a riddle, its just too much hard work to use it

I was lucky (i think) to run Ultimatim like 3 times, and 2 of those - dropped me this shield :) Even more lucky - i corrupted one to have +4% maximum life Sold for mere 12 divines... should've kep for myself ;_;

I love items like this in the game, then remember no leech mods exist.

As an SSF player I would like it to be a bit easier to get but at the same time it's one of those items which really feels like it is worth the rarity, and I'm all for items that are farmable even if they're rare

Is self hit + "x% of damage taken is leeched as life" mods also a possible way to gain full ES every 4 seconds? I know this method is only super effective with the reworked Wurm's Molt belt tech but then your wearing a Wurm's molt ... hhmmmmmmm

Yep it's a full build choice, your build will essentially be built around using this item from the ground up, but it provides one of the strongest defensive options in the game

Man can you make vid about supreme ego keystone? I think it's so weak keystone and i see no point playing this. Maybe you can pull out some good ideas.

@@dreamcore_gg I was thinking a little and i come up with something. Supreme ego could be something like that. Your aura can only affect you, get more aura effect and reservation per nearby ally. You know the idea is you are stronger than the others and they worship you in someways so you get buffs and dont share with others. I think it fit very well with description of this keystone. "You are the heart of the empire, shining bright so that all are lifted up by your light. Let none tell you otherwise." (the value need to be balanced well to not be to weak or to op)

can you stop boosting this shield price? it got really expensive in Kalandra due to - lighting res ring, then got really cheap (around 3~5div) because people slept on it since no more Doryani chest abusing, and now all the youtubers start to make video about it all over again, damn the shield will get about 20~30div in new league
