This U.S. Fencer Is Named After a Warrior Queen-and It Shows | Short Film Showcase

Ойын-сауық

Fencer Nzingha Prescod became the first African-American woman to win an individual medal at the Senior World Championships in 2015. In this short documentary, we see her training and hear her thoughts on her way to compete for the United States at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Filmmaker Anderson Wright brings us closer to Prescod, where we learn that she was named after a warrior queen from Angola-and see her show kids everywhere that nothing is impossible.

The beauty of competitive disciplines, no matter what they are, if you're good - you're good and nobody can take it from you.

Even if you don't medal, that doesn't mean you haven't accomplished anything. That is the real lesson. The discipline, hard work and sacrifice are not in vain if you do not take the gold. Everyone is striving for that. Only you know if you have given your all. I'm sure your coach is proud of your effort and sportsmanship. Our society gives us the impression that only our effort determines the outcome. As if we will only try if guaranteed success. That is not the lesson. Do your best and be satisfied with your effort. This young lady seems to have already won in life, even without the gold.

She's so beautiful :) I'm so excited for her and I really hope she takes home a medal. This is a very unique sport (and unusual for an African American) that requires very different skills. We're rooting for you Nzingha!!!!

So many judgmental people in the comments. This is her choice. Let her live her life with what she wants to do, you don't have to go around hating someone just because you can.

Anthony Sanders I agree with you. However, she even said herself she doesn't even like fighting, but sometimes you have to fight. Maybe that was just an inspritaniol quote tho. haha Nonetheless I can't shake the feeling that when I look in her eyes, she looks unhappy. And don't worry, I'm not one of those kids who's goin' to insult you, because you have a different opinion. ;)

No Mentions of her Anti-Semitic rants on Twitter? Why is her racism not mentioned? Why is she openly allowed to spew hate with zero blow-back, in fact shes held up as a role model. Even more so after Phelps was overwhelmingly votde by his fellow American Olympians to carry the American flag during the opening ceremony, he was being asked to let her do it, After his refusal there were lib media types were hinting that he was somehow wrong. But I digress.
