I wouldn’t have had any reservations getting them banned from Turo. They ruin it for everyone

I actually own a macan s I’ve rented out on Turo since June of 2021. I’m convinced when you’re a noob on the platform, the riff raff actively seek you out and try and take advantage of you. Had a similar smoking situation early on to yours. Get an ozone generating machine off Amazon for the odor. Totally works. Don’t get a huge one, just a rechargeable usb powered one. Will take care of the smell in 2 hours. Always get photos of IDs before anyone rides no matter what. Don’t take tips or any of that shit. That just screams red flag. Also, make sure all communication and money is collected through the app. Next time someone fucks with your car while on a trip, contact them and say you want the car back or you’ll contact Turo have them booted, and/or call the cops. Turo will take your side for any negative feedback and expunge. Anyway, enjoy the channel and the dry humor. Good luck with future Turo rentals.

I have a turo fleet and I have a couple of these stories. Including a flooded car, car that got abandoned 3 states away and a totaled tesla. Good to know I'm not the only one getting f****d. You need an ozone machine to get rid of the smell but it replace it with its own distinct smell that you have to let air out. There are smoke foggers that are only good if it's a very light weed/cigarette smell.

I would never do Turo for that reason. Also it doesn’t make sense. You need a good budget to afford a car in that price category first. Then it takes forever to get any money back with Turo.

Lesson learned then. At least your car is back and mostly intact! Turo doesn't sound great IMO if they can't verify or control their users properly.

Interesting video as always. There is no way in this world that I would rent a Macan to the public. It’s asking for trouble & so much hassle, especially when this happens. My time & peace of mind is worth way more. Appreciate the honesty though & really good presentation.

I tried renting my Alfa Romeo Stelvio on Turo and that was my main car at the time, definitely scary and nerve racking renting out your prized possession. Luckily it went well for me, but I agree that Turo can be profitable with the right car (and not your only car).

Why did you not demand they come back with the registered driver/renter immediately or you would report the car as stolen?

Why would you ever let a driver that wasn’t authorized take your car? I rent two cars on Turo, and that is something I’d never waiver on. I even make people that I do a contactless handoff send me a pic of them in front of the car and a pic of their license before giving them the code. Insurance is invalid at that point if you don’t. Just too risky..

Omg dude I’m so sorry this happened! My hubs and I were thinking of renting out our Model S on Turo but after seeing Ryan Shaw’s video about his Model Y that was damaged because it appeared someone had “jumped” the car we were like no way in hell that’s happening! Turo should not be penalizing you for canceling a reservation because someone else caused that delay NOT you! I would certainly fight that!

Sorry to hear about this. I would have been terrified with the police showing up and what condition my car would come back in. I rented out my 2019 Tesla Model 3 and the renter either got in to an accident or hit something. The passenger rear fender was all scraped up. They didn’t tell me and I had to file a claim against them. The car is fully wrapped in XPEL and luckily the scratches were just the XPEL film. Turo covered it all since I had the 65% coverage, but it was annoying to deal with the situation. I don’t plan to rent it out again because it wasn’t worth all the work.

For smoke smell , get an ozone generator from Amazon. It’s like $70 and put it in ur car over night. Smell brand new next day. Your welcome

I once release a vehicle to a person with expired license. And I caught it after I gave them the lockbox combo and told them not to drive the vehicle , they of course took and drove off. I Called Turo and they said we can cancel the trip with no penalty Or let it go and you will still be covered( was PITA to make them confirm that ) In the end renter left good review, was happy he had the car, didn’t drive much, and left a tip. That’s the only one time I let go car without proper ID verification. And I have tons and tons of people that are trying to book without DL Ot with expired DL. Be careful.

The vetting process is important also overcharging for your vehicle compared to others with the same helps weave out bad renters

Turo sucks. I rented a Model 3 once and the driver had the nerve to charge me a smoking fee as a non smoker. You never know who you'll deal with. A bad host or a bad guest.

1. You must follow the turo rules to a tee and you will have no problems you cannot trust people. 2. you can get the “ding” removed against you from turo because of what the renter did to you before. they will remove it because of the circumstances. just call them.

Why I will never rent out one of my cars.

That bullet looks like a large caliber rifle round. Yikes! What an a-hole. Unfortunately, the world is filled with these types of people who put as much energy into cheating others as you do making an honest living. Back in 2006, I bought a Mini from a guy on eBay who lived 2000 miles away. In retrospect, I was too trusting. He sent me the car right away but never included the title! He said he had the title in hand but turned out it was in the hands of BMW Financial. It wasn't even paid off! He finally sent the title after 6 MONTHS of badgering him and threats of getting the police involved. Meanwhile, I couldn't legally drive the car! It became obvious that he used the $$$ for some other purpose before finally paying it off and sending me the title. Lesson learned the hard way. Glad you at least got your car back! 👍🏻Enjoy the channel a lot.

Someone smoked in my cars on Turo. The combination of an ozone generator from Amazon and foam cleaning the carpets helped do the trick. The ozone generator I used is called Enerzen. Its about 80 bucks

Okay first things first, never hand the keys over to another driver who’s not approved. If it was in a lock box and the approved driver gave the code to an unapproved driver that is different and not on you. But in this situation no way. Second, in your guidelines you should always state your rules like no illegal activities/ no legal racing/ dont not add or remove anything equipped on or in the vehicle and anything else you could possibly think of that would or could cause issues. Third, be courteous but assertive at the same time. Dont let the bullshit slide.

Tracking on all my cars and I never allow folks who are not on the reservation to have access to my vehicle. Turo is a rental business with guidelines and if you don't follow them, you alone are responsible for what happens to your vehicle.

Once you get that "experience" out of your system and realize the "risks" of driving/owning/maintaining such a car you appeal to drivers who just want reliable safe "a to b" transport. You have to be prepared for all these problems and can not care too much about the car to Turo your car. If this is an investment to make money on turo then fine, but if it is a pride and joy vehicle then no turo.
