That was fun. A lot of reviewers forget to mention that the sticks and the head have different weight limits. This becomes important if you want to remove the head to attach a jib or something.

The only issues for me are no PT drag adjustments and variable counterbalance on this head, but the sticks look fantastic. If I were going to build a budget tripod I would pick up these SmallRig legs and a Sirui BCH-20(22lb load) for a video head. That would give one an amazing PT drag & counterbalanced head along with some fast to set up sticks. For around $580, and one would have a budget variant of a Sachtler flowtech75 system which start around $3200 for a head with a 17.5lb load. That's under 1/5th the price.

@billyoung9538

@@benja1378 The AD-100 doesn't have a variable counterbalance from my understanding, and while it does have drag it's only on the pan axis. Beyond that it's not a hydraulic dampened fluid head. While the latter doesn't mean much early in a tripods life, it makes a significant difference down the line as the fluids age and components wear.

No probs, it was Sony FX30 but I can't remember what lens... probably the Sigma 16mm F1.4
Great review, going to get one to become my new main tripod/use for conferences and my more cumbersome manfrotto will become my b-cam tripod for static interivew b-cam shots, using my new FX30 which you had a small part in me deciding to purchase after your post about having a b-cam just in case things go wrong (sold my 6K Pro last week which I was hardly using and looking forward to allowing to having autofocus on both cams that should match up nicely in post - A7siii and FX30).

Excellent p6kpro is probably the best BM camera at the moment but as a Sony owner, you already know the FX30 will be extremely useful 👌🏾 Good call on the tripod too. I know it's difficult to trust KZreadrs who get free gear but I honestly love this tripod and use it on every job it's needed. I still have my old one as backup but it's onl been used once since I got this freeblazer.

Hey Alex. Yes it's very easy and that was one of my main concerns too. Because we live in London and most of the shots are central London, it makes no sense to drive so we're always carrying bags. Very sturdy but easy to manage.

Cool video, curious if you found any cons. It's amazing but. I am asuming that at its highest and lowest height, it is easy level. Is it a challenge leveling it between its highest and lowest points?
@Altcine

The only thing I'd change is the turn screw to lock the mount plate. I did mention this to smallrig but because it only takes about 3 turns to lock, I didn't want to sound like I'm nitpicking. I do think it would have been better with a pull lever like on the legs. No problems with leveling when high or low. When it's up high and you're standing on a box etc the levers are up top so you don't need to step down to adjust.

In your community post, you refer to this video as a product review video so I will judge it based on your words. I have to say, this video is basically a glorified ad, right from the start. From what I can tell, your "old" tripod is Kenro Twin Tube that weights 4.5kg in comparison to Smallrig's 4.4 kg. Even the size is very comparable, so evident from just simply looking at the tripods side by side. This tripod is targeted towards enthusiasts or semi-professionals, even thought Smallrig wants this to be a pro tripod. So it would have been nice if you sent the time talking about user experience and real life pros and cons, rather than spend 3 minute demonstrating how to use a 1/4 screw hole. The speed test was fun and effective in demonstrating the real advantage of the tripod but could have been cut shorter. And then at the end, you mention the height difference between your "old" tripod and how Smallrig's is soo much taller. Smallrig (191), Kenro (185). Massive difference once again. I know that you are a nice guy and you are new to this format of video perhaps. However, I hope you don't fall into trying to please manufacturers so that your channel is supported. Manufacturers should operate in our grace, not the other way around. I like smallrig personally, I have many products that I bought from them and use. Even so, rather than a glorified ad to push products to consumers, I would have loved to learn real things about this tripod. Does this have a screw to lock the fluid head in place to the base? Can I tighten the latches if it gets loose? Does it have anything to keep the sticks together when folded so it doesn't flap around? etc.
@Altcine
10 ай бұрын
Hi, I did state early in the video that I was going to focus on the things that are useful to me. My kenro head wasn't compatible with different mounts so I had to put a heavier metal one on top of the existing tripod so it is heavier. Regar8the height ..taller is taller. I actually demonstrated the the screw handle that locks the fluid head. Someone else just asked about the latches and I explained about them before I read your comment. I like the mount close to where the lens will be because it's the best position for a second camera shooting reels. I have no loyalty to Smallrig or anyone but if a reviewer likes the product, it will always look like an advert. I just show people what I like and always put a link to the product which has tons more information that answers all your questions. I turn down so many products (some worth hundreds of pounds) because I'm not a salesman.
@Altcine

Ps, just want to say that I'm here to answer any questions you may have if it's something I never thought to put in the video. I know I can't please everyone and I'm cool with that but anything you want to know I'd be happy to test.

@@Altcine It is your channel and your video, so it is fair for you to decide what to talk about. About the screw handle I'm not sure what you are referring to, I was talking about a screw that would lock the fluid head to the 75mm flat base, but I found the info on smallrig's web (there is one). I would have liked to see a more in-depth review about aspects of the tripod you would find out only after using it for sometime. This video by itself, still basically advertises the product rather than review it. I know that you leave a comment on everyone's post on any canon eos m video and you are supportive. I remember you asking people about how you could improve the channel, that's why I decided to leave a comment. You have a great attitude so, keep it up!

Hey brother, I hope today's service is good 🙏🏾 Yeah I see a lot of people comparing the ZVE1 with FX30 but they're 2 completely different categories. A camera needs to stand up to abuse...ie long shoots in heat and if it can't then I don't see the point. There are some fans that attach to the camera which could help though. But yes, use what you have but you have some great camera's though 🙌🏾

Hows build quality with materials? Lot of plastic or carbon fiber? How reliable locks seem to be? Just scouting out for tripod....
@Altcine

It's a mix of Aluminum Alloy, ABS, POM, Stainless Steel, Silicone. I do treat my gear well and only had it a month but it's made of the same stuff as my old tripod and 5hats still going strong after 3 years. The locks are very reliable. The good thing is you can tighten/loosen the tension on the rear using a hex driver. Mine are quite tight because my fx6 rig can get heavy but there's no way it would drop/slide down.

It's called a Tactical Chest Bag. I use it to carry filters, lens caps, mount caps, SD cards etc. I keep loosing them when I'm out filming or doing events and I got tired of wasting money replacing them. www.amazon.co.uk/Kyrio-Tactical-Harness-Holster-Talkies/dp/B08572G91D/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?crid=7DSJ7V3FIEJR&keywords=mens+tactical+chest+bag&qid=1702848195&sprefix=mens+tactical+ches%2Caps%2C91&sr=8-7
Plan on using it for motorsports, air shows etc. Is it stable when using a telephoto lens?
@Altcine
7 ай бұрын
It is very stable but pay attention to the weight limit. I used a really heavy rig once and whilst the head was fine, the leg clamps couldn't hold it. I've sinced tightened the leg clamps to support heavy rigs but it's best used within manufacturers tolerance.
