This technique is winning everything!

I look at popular mid strolling baits like the Jackall drift fry, Deps Sakamata shad, Sixth Sense Juggle minnow, Fish Arrow Flash J and the Rapala Freeloader. We'll see popular jig heads like the Owner Range Roller. This is a masterclass in Hover strolling and mid strolling. I go over everything you need to know to succeed with this technique.

    When you are using such light weights (like anything below a 1/8 oz) how do you target fish that are deeper than 15-20 ft? Especially if they are roaming and you have to intercept them? I imagine those light weights would take 10-15 seconds or more to get down to depth.

Also what about jig rigs like core tackle hover rig? Have you used those? Thanks

    Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. I really did try to give people the real meaning of the technique from the Japanese explanation. I feel like a lot of people are just throwing the words around and creating jig heads that are not meant for this technique. I have used the hover rig and I dont see it working for this technique, If Im wrong somebody teach me. As far as retrieve speeds you can definitely go faster or slower, the mood of the fish will dictate that. I never really do any jerking but I do pop the bait every so often.

    With the ball head jig you said to hook it high to get more roll , then you showed your rig with the nail weight with the nail weight low. Why wouldn't you put your nail weight high for better roll also?

  • @Ijustwanttofish2024

    @Ijustwanttofish2024

    Every bait is different and every day is different. When I was rigging the nail weight I mentioned I have caught them rigging the weight in the top, in the middle, and in the belly. You have to experiment. I think its because one day the fish may want a lot of roll and flash and one day maybe not so much. Also when it comes to hovering, if you put a very small weight in the belly it sort of keels the bait. Your almost fishing it weightless. When you shake the bait it quivers and rolls.

    I will start by saying I love Matt Steffan. I bought some of those jig heads and have yet to catch a fish either, but I put very little time in to them. Like I said in the video, I try stuff and if it cant pretty quickly replace what Im having success with I leave it on the backburner. The dirtier the water the smaller the strike zone. These baits move very little water so you need to really get it in front of them. Use a very lite weight so you can work the bait slower with out it sinking past them. I have caught them in as little as 12-18" of water clarity, so I hope that helps.

    I'm not sure if you watched the whole video but there is huge potential to this technique and it has nothing to do with forward facing sonar. I know I mentioned at least once if not twice to be creative. I cut out some of the stuff I recorded to keep it halfway quick, but I will say it hear. The bank fisherman or shallow water guy can really do well with this technique. IT IS NOT LIMITED TO FORWARD FACING SONAR. The only mention I made to FFS was how the fish react when they see this technique, you can tell they have not seen it before. Dont be so closed minded or you will not grow as a fisherman.
