I find for C sharp, its around the same length out as it is for D (maybe a little longer), but I slightly kick out my first valve slide, and pull it in for D, works for me.
Trombones have been doing this since the instrument was in our hands. We are the only brass instrument that does not bend any pitches for tuning. We just tune with our arm. In low range, the positions extend so much that notes start extending past their natural positions and can even overlap the standard positions.

You can bend pitch for tuning. You can either force a sharp sound or force a flat, uneven sound

Pretty much every wind instrument (non-reed) has a tuning slide. Tubas have specific slides for each valve, as well as one for open notes.

As a guitarist, this is most helpful
Great guide for beginners and generally young students. In general, have a tuner and check WHERE that note is in tune in your 3rd valve slide. Not all trumpets are made equal. Sometimes a low D will actually be close to the base while the C#/Db is REALLY far. Sometimes D and C#/Db are going to be really close to each other. It’s trumpet by trumpet, so learn what its personal habits are.
As a percussionist this helped me a lot

“Try this, works like a charm”
You also need to find what is in tune for you because every trumpet player is different. (Ex. I kick out 1st and 3rd slides for C#)
Instructions unclear, accidentally grabbed my regional trombone
As a trombone player I see this as an absolute win
As a trombonist, I found this very helpful
As a flute player I really needed this, helped a lot 😅 (Love your channel, watch it all the time, even as a flute player ❤)
And this is why I left the trumpet in the dust for the French horn
That is why I play trombone. Just one big tuning slide 😂
Bro said trombone.
as a trombone player this is relatable
I found this super useful as a french horn
as a bassoon player this helped me play my b in tune
As a trombone player, I will surely be using this exercise on the daily!
1 2 AND READY HIT IT
As a trombone player I now have the slightest bit more respect for trumpet players now knowing they (kind of) work like a trombone.
I swear does KZread want me to play in band. I’m staying in orchestra and that’s the end of it💀
I can't move that slide when I play so all my notes are slightly out of tune 😭 (me never being taught how to take care of a trumpet let alone properly play until my 4th year playing so I basically have to start all over)
HI🎉🎉🎉🎉 I PLAY TRUMPET AND I WATCH YOU ALL THE TIME!!! Just got home from district band 🎉🎉🎉

Very helpful when my trumpet doesn't have a valve ring
Looking at your left hand reminds me that I hold it weird. My pointer goes over the top, and my middle finger goes between the two upper sides.
As a pianist and guitarist, I had no idea trumpets had slides 😅
SO glad I play trombone
Trumpet? Nah, **trombone**
Luckily I do it on the c sharp automatically, but I always forget it on the d, so maybe I'll try that.
As a cellist, this was very helpful
Bro's playing the Trumpone
My mind: james bond and jaws
My only problem is that my trumpet is in desperate need of a tune up, it has a ton of dents, the pinky ring is just gone and one of the slides is stuck and the other two are not very smooth but I am saving up for a new trumpet because that one was by brothers old one.
Me who can’t move the valve trying to lip it
As a flute and piccolo player I’m very intrigued
I didnt know the left hand really did anything (besides holding the instrument)
I play trumpet and for YEARS I was told to never move those slides. You have to move them?!?
My trumpet isn't local😢😢
trumpet is just a small trombone
What if my C# is always in tune anyway and i dont do that. I can just make the note be intune with the power of my mouth
Just play trombone at this point (best brass instrument 🤭)

Wait if Trumpets can tune like this, why are they always the ones out of tune in our school band lol
And yes, this is how you correctly play the note…

I didn’t know that my left hand did anything besides hold the trumpet
U can generally get away with just bending the note in tune

It’s bc everyone has a different airflow. It’s not a matter of technique or training, it’s just a physical-born difference. It’s also why everyone has a different place on their same instrument most of the time. As a result though, adding length to the instrument changes your tuning most of the time. (If someone tries to tell you it’s bc you’re simply worse, don’t listen to them) However, you will have to adjust your first and 3rd tuning slide bc of this. It is very weird to get used to but it’ll happen with training. Every partial does have a different tuning though bc the air pressure is not same. A C# below the staff can be all the way out while a C# in the middle will only be half way. It’s all abt experimenting
Why tf are the trumpets turning into trombones
Sounds kinda like rush E notes
Every instrument just trying to be a trombone.
