Just what I've been looking for, downsizing from a Tribute coachbuilt, on a Ford chassis. Based on this review, I took delivery of one last week. Really pleased so far. All of our gear fits in the new van and we have solved the lighting issue with rechargeable reading lights on magnetic/adhesive strips. Looking forward to our first trip to the Highlands and Islands at Easter. Thank you Peter for introducing us to our little Chausson!

As usual Chausson come up with some unique features, I like their lateral thinking, a really nice non blingy van.

Looks like they have done a lot with the space for such a small camper, interested to see the inside of the 697 models. Appreciate the cinematography as well, we have learnt a thing or two from watching your videos. Cheers.

Great, and I like the frugal sparse interior and compact couches. Much more open feeling of space inside. Nice little RV!

Very nice Peter. My last Volvo car cost me £35k on the road so when you compare with that this motor home is very good value for money. If I was younger, I wouldn't hesitate in taking a hard look at this model.

Great garage, nice modest interior. It does a great job at this price point.

Neat little motorhome, plenty big enough for a single person.

That's a clever short motorhome.

I like it.

Nice tour and apart from the lighting it's a great van.

I like the idea of a full sized bed and a place to eat seperated, one person can sleep while one person could maybe working on a computer. It has a small size also which will help in parking.

The narrower body is definitely a plus for UK roads and rural lanes especially with those compact wing mirrors. We have a Chausson 630 on a Ford at 2.33m width and 6.99m length. We've been considering switching to a Rapido C range at 2.17 metres width and 6.99 length. But it's on the Fiat and I prefer the Ford for the reasons you give here Peter. I would consider the longer of the two new S range nodels, at 6.6m but not in this basic trim. Hopefully, Chausson will eventually offer slimline vans with higher spec. I love our overcab opening skylight, for example!

£47K !!! Fine motorhome,2 bed but 4 seats ? Seats and fridge intrude into walk way.in a small vehicle I would put in an underslung tank for more cupboard space,,I wound change the 240v on sink/cooker to near door.

Great van. right in my budget, unfortunatly the £47K mentioned, the memo was missed by Elite Motorhomes, they are charging 54K+ for the same van, and TC Motorhomes are charging 56K, and so on. Seems to me dealers are taking the whatsname and using the current situation to exploite buyers, for greed, dicraceful behaviour, I personally will not be buying now, as its a false market.

£47k is the base price but I think all the early examples are high spec ones. Dealers don't have much to sell right now and, if they don't survive, there'll be be no one to do warranty and servicing work...

I like this van a lot as a newbie. I would want a halogen oven in there though, not a microwave. Is that doable? Can you have halogen ovens in vans?

Ovens, when fitted, are gas. You could try a Remoska on the hob

The lack of lighting seems strange as proper lighting adds to the enjoyment of a van. Given lightings low cost, not to install it seems strange. For the price of other vans that have a lot more features, I wouldn't go for it myself .

Is there a US equivalent? That bed and rear storage is genius and US manufacturers need to take note!

Great review on this one, Peter, thank you! A bit too bare bones with a lack of gadgetry though. I like the smaller lounge, though wish the kitchen was bigger. One thing you never cover is the power grid. What power does the fridge run on? Where is the solar, generator, alternator charging? What type and size of batteries? Where are they housed? Never shown. Glossing over this is not a review. There are two things that make a vehicle into a home - a bed, and power. Please cover both.

I try to cover everything without making the review too long to watch. Leisure batteries are mentioned where they are more than just a typical 80-100Ah, likewise solar when fitted. The fridge is a typical three-way - 12V, 230V or gas. Anything worth mentioning will always be covered.

Manufacturers often quote a misleading wall-to-wall figure in brochures. We like to tell the real story but they all differ.

Hi, Please can you (or someone) do a video on Warranties..., it seems asking about a warranty to most dealers is sidestepped . and giving a 3/6 month warranty on a £45k+ 3 year van with 10k miles. is taking the mick.. Australia minimum 5 years on All new vehicles!! Thanks Paul and Carole

In the UK most new motorhomes come with a two-year warranty on the habitation side and the base vehicle, while water ingress is covered for longer (subject to regular inspections) - often five to 10 years

I got a 5 year warranty on my previous motorhome which was great, after the gearbox spectacularly failed 4 years in!

47.000 for a new motorhome, wish they were that price in ireland.

It is too classic layout = too small inside. So you don`t feel so well inside. And the bed is mounted too high. I would change much, to get more free space inside. A foldable bathroom = not fixed one. So it needs only space, when you use it. In the back one seat only = smaller. But you have the two swivel seats. A hub bed = needs only space while using. And can be lower, without ladder needed. And I would prefer the automatic gear box. It is soo great, even at Ford Transit base. You will love it. - Or you must miss it badly. So in your mind, you would imagine a total other mobil home inside. But it looks more interested ?

Does the Transit come with a 4x4 option?

Not for this motorhome, but you can get a 4x4 Transit. Murvi have done some of their superb Morello conversions with 4x4

Amazing that 47k is deemed budget price these motorhome companies have been ripping people off for far to long. Great idea to put the electrical systems next to the water tank. I think i will stick with my caravan with its sticky out windows 3 times as much space better heating , furniture, cooking facilities, storage etc for less than half the price of this affordable 😅 motorhome.

But you still have to buy a car to tow it. It's horses for courses, as regards caravan v motorhome but I'm not sure who has been "ripping people off". The companies are there to make a profit - look at all the components, chassis, labour-intensive build, transport, dealer margin, etc.

There are 4 seats so where is the second double beds (for kids)?

I would avoid these Transits with the ecoblue diesel engine like the plague. They come with a wet cambelt in place of the previous chain ( why?! A huge backwards step ) that is plagued with premature failure. Ford recommend replacement at 150k miles, independent specialists are suggesting 60k as a limit, with reports of failures as soon as 32k miles. Ford have already recalled 2016 and 2017 models to fit reinforced belts, owners of 2918+ models are reporting premature failures. Dealers are struggling to secure stocks from Germany to service these recall notices. Wet belts are bathed in engine oil, with many mechanics suggesting this aids premature failure. I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole.

A family member works for a Ford dealer and they are still struggling to get the parts in a timely manner for this recall. "Bag of shite" is a description I have heard.

Everything made nowadays looks low grade and cheap materials but also keeps getting dearer and more costly to maintain

I don't think there's anything low grade about this 'van but I agree that prices are spiralling

I can see some devious youngsters walking by and pulling that wastewater valve release handle and making one HELL of a mess!!! That handle should be secured behind some sort of locking door!!!

I don't think youngsters would know what it was for, or even see it. I've never come across that behaviour in all my years of motorhoming. If it did happen, it's only a bit of soapy water

There's a slightly longer version with single beds at the back. And both versions are improved for the 2023 season, with more spec.

Who ever put the plastic t handle right behind the wheel needs to be fired. What happens when that tire blows or you kick up a rock and either break the handle or bend the rod?

This is what sold this van to us, downsizing from a Tribute 620. We've got all our gear in the garage plus 2 large recliner chairs that we used to carry in the shower!

Be careful with these vehicles, poorly fitted windows (badly sealed) from the factory, door hinges that bend from a badly positioned door blocker and then your entrance door won’t close correctly. They look great but they have lots of finicky issues….

@@JohnSmith-zv8km I'm sorry you feel that way but I review new motorhomes and, in 2022, most brand-new motorhomes are at least £60k-plus, so this one looks relatively good value. Obviously, £50k is still a LOT of money but just look at the number of brand-new SUVs on the road and you'll see that there's no shortage of people with the wherewithal to spend this much on a vehicle. Even most good used motorhomes are £30k, these days, such as is the demand.

As for me I would not dream of holidaying in one of these monstrosities. Just a point of order though, I did not say that I could not afford one just that they are not cheap. If your attitude is anything to go by then the camper vanners would be a unpleasant lot to be with.

47,000 nothing budget about that is there. If companies want to get people into motorhomes they need to be cheaper

Sadly, that's where the market is now - thank Brexit, Covid... New ones will only get dearer when they become hybrid or electric and finance is cheap right now, so there's no shortage of buyers - just a shortage of stock

@@sarahann530 no need to be like that is there, I sold a company 3 years ago and retired at 55, it's just not something I would put that amount of money on, or a car to be honest. I purchased second hand at £25,000 and it does the job nicely thanks. No need to lower the tone when I was just making a point

It’s good value for money, considering the rocketing cost of this type of vehicle over the past 12 months due to demand as a result of COVID and the various implications on how we can take a holiday.Furthermore, the cost of accommodation,drink and food are on an upward trend, therefore, the Motorhome type holiday allows you to control your holiday expenditure as these costs will not reduce any time soon.😁👍🚐
