Great video especially addressing carb settings. I've had similar issues will all my Stihl products. So every season I clean spark screen, change or clean spark plug, change or clean fuel filter (compressed air), change or clean air filter (compressed air). Checking the primmer pump bulb as well. The gasoline processed today has a higher alcohol content which has a tendency to dry out gaskets and rubber parts faster ..than in the past.

3 of my favorite channels are yours, Taryl fixes all, and Chicanic. She did a video on this (she is a tech for a shop that is a Stihl dealer.) What they found is that a vast majority of the time the owners were using Stihl oil. For some reason, unless you are running full throttle most of the time, the exhaust screen clogs. They almost never see it occur with other oil brands. Go figure. If your Dad is using Stihl oil, tell him to use something else and it won’t hurt a thing. She also said to never run a curved shaft trimmer without a guard. The shafts are not really made to handle the extra load. I hope this helps you.

I changed the carb, spark plug, air filter, cleaned the spark arrestor.m, it now runs better.... But here's the thing... Since I got it, I operated the choke in reverse. I saw this in this video... Ugh! I wish I would have seen this two weeks ago when I was working on the fs55. I did make sure the arrestor was clear. I did NOT check the diameter of the opening. It did not have a guard like your father’s and I realized that he was running the machine with the line that waaaay too long and it was overheating the engine. I adjusted the carb with the correct length line and he said it was working without bogging down. Lastly, your father’s machine is so clean, I thought, “I bet he cleans it with a toothbrush!” Lol. sure, from the "single Fire" situation, I would check the compression I have a feeling it might be low.

My first thought is check the muffler and exhaust port for blockage of carbon. A lot run them at slower speeds, they are designed to run at w.o.t., this can cause the carbon buildup to happen faster
@HomeGaragechannel
Жыл бұрын
yes very usual suspects on this engine. wasn't expecting the tailpipe blockage though.
The screen on my 85 is still clear so no problem BUT I have an MS440 Magnum saw that always slobbered and just had one 1/2 inch hole for the exhaust. No blockages and the muffler has no baffles. I drilled another 1/2 inch hole beside the original and it seems to run better. Screen is clear here too and no buildup from the piston on out. The 'H' jet is bottomed out so that's not the problem. I got the saw because of having straight gas run in it but a factory certified Stihl teck put another Stihl top end on it so it's right as far as no knockoff parts. I think it runs better but not as good as it could but I can live with it. Just something to think about. Another Stihl carb is $145 and that ain't happening. More of the same. Thanks, happy weekend and Blessings!
