Basically bluetooth doesn’t support lossless audio but wifi does support it., if you have BB3 use auxiliary cable to listen to lossless audio.

I don't think the speaker is capable of producing clean enough sound that you could tell the difference but maybe you might notice a little difference.

LDAC codec gets pretty close to lossless ... the original BB3 on aux with an Earstudio ES100 or Qudelix 5k sounds (to my ears) more "alive" than wi-fi streaming .. Plus you have additional EQ (pro style) which are beyond the basic settings of JBL's app. The added bonus is you can use them with headphones too.

That Wi-Fi edition they took out the aux input, what a bummer…

That’s a big no for me as well.. as I use my other Bluetooth speaker with an aux in for outdoor dj mixes with my controller .. with this it’s not no possible anymore

It does not work. If you plug in it stops playing music and takes a minute to start playing, it’s to “save battery” buy putting the speaker in standby when no sound is playing, which I play music and nothing happens.

$150 for WIFI is a rip-off. I wouldn't spend the money. Also JBL needs to pull their head out of their arse and stop changing their pairing technology. They have Connect+ and then Party Boost and now they are changing it again? This is BS. I want to be able to connect to my friends speaker when we party but JBL changes their technology every 5 seconds so you basically have to buy them in the same minute otherwise they wont work together. Obviously I'm being dramatic but it's true. My mate has a Chage 3 and I have a Charge 5. We can't connect to each other. And now if I have another friend who buys one of these new Wifi versions, they wont be able to connect with me either. This is stupid and makes me trust JBL a bit less because I feel like they are just going to make my speaker obsolete as soon as I buy it.

So chromecast, Airplay, Alexa or Spotify have no interest to you. That's fine. Other people might find it useful for a speaker that probably sounds pretty nice in the home. Just because it doesn't fit your use pattern doesn't mean others won't find it useful. Not to mention better sound quality over wifi than BT.

I have the original Boombox3 and I would rather have the auxiliary input than wifi 💯. It lets me use it at the end of daisy chaining the partybox speakers and set it it the middle of the larger ones. To me thats a better option than wifi.

Hi I bought mine a little over 2 months ago but recently when I play music 70 to 80% volume it goes flat just after 4 hours. And also when I charge it takes on 4hr 10 mins to fully charge. Please share your thoughts on this I'd really appreciate. Thanks Alex,

I think its a battery issue. Maybe check it out with JBL's warranty?

Now knowing the EQ gets disabled on party boost, I would have waited and got the Wi-Fi version vs. getting the BB3 and two pulse 5s since the BB3 sounds better as a standalone vs. the three party boosted together and with Wi-Fi I can airplay to multiple devices without loss of the EQ

@@rayray4192 the equalizer in the JBL app. Whether you’re using other JBL speakers or not, when you enable party boost on a speaker it turns the equalizer off as a failsafe which drastically reduces the speakers output and sound quality. I have been blowing up their fb page and the App Store reviews asking for an updated version to allow EQ to remain on but haven’t got any replies. I am going to give it until the end of the year and if not, someone will get a sweet deal on eBay lol

Today 5/20/2024 I bought the BB3 wifi at Best Buy for $399.00. Both OG and wifi were on sale for the same price. I actually got mine for 366.00 because it was an open box in excellent cond. Charging cord wasn't even unwrapped. I totally spaced out on it not having the Aux. port until I got home. Decided to test drive it anyway. Bluetooth works great and I got at least 50ft away with obstructed line of sight with no connection or cut out problem. The speaker really likes the wifi but does very well on Bluetooth. I've got a couple Months to make up my mind. As for now I'm happy with it. It's rockin' a 3500sq. ft. area in my shop pretty well at about 65% volume.

So, question how do you connect to the speaker when you're down at the beach, where there isn't any WiFi..???

I have a question since you have the same speakers as me. We agree that both speakers can not be on Party Boost and use different software. but have you tried to connect both speakers to Bluetooth only and make them play together? If you have a Samsung phone, I believe this is possible using dual audio setting. (I don't have a Samsung phone sadly to try it) If that works the one that has Party boost feature can be used in party boost with other JBLs with party boost.

Does not work with Iphone. Works with mac with MIDI controller, but the connection rapidly laggs.

I despise how things like this are being normalized to be more “convenient” or “better” but when the key thing goes down for ANY reason it essentially screws up what feels like your day to day life. And wifi is no joke when things like fridges, microwaves and even your HOME!! Needs wifi and when it suddenly goes out it really shows what is provided.

I highly appreciate that you mean it to JBL BOOMBOX3. However, the biggest difference between portable Bluetooth speakers and Wi-Fi speakers is that Wi-Fi signals with large transmission data consume a lot of power. In particular, low-power wireless Bluetooth signals are a must-have option for battery-mounted portable models. To use the JBL BOOMBOX3 Wi-Fi, you must plug it in and use the DC power plug. This is because when using Wi-Fi as a battery mode, battery usage time is significantly reduced compared to when using Bluetooth. This is because power consumption is high. And I think it's a better choice for the Dolby Atmos-enabled Wi-Fi speaker to buy the JBL Authentic 500 and use it indoors as a regular fixture, and just use it if there is an existing Boom Box 3.

The difference in sound is very subtle. It is seen that the difference of 2 Watts on Tweeter's Wi-Fi version made a good blend of high mid-range and highs over the Bluetooth version. It sounds slithy clearer than the Bluetooth version. Maybe for that reason, you feel ear fatigue. too much boosting of these frequencies produces that and for some people can be too harsh. In another video, you said that you usually use that speaker at a low volume, right? It could be that your boombox still has not break-in yet?

Yeah you know that bluetooth speakers barely have a break in period. Yes they do have it. But after just a few bass songs its already broken in. And these speakers dont have the sound quality to really notice it

You don't notice it, no problem! However, it takes hundreds of hours of play before any speaker loosens up and plays at it's full potential. Especially with quality speakers that are made to last.

Honestly I've been absolutely impressed with everything JBL has released except for the look on this wifi speaker and the new color changes look cheap, also the wifi symbol feels goofy to have on the side like that. The JBL camo boom box looks better than that. and the fact it doesn't have an aux is sad.

My question is, can you not achieve the same audio quality as the wifi edition by utilising an aux cable with the non-wifi speaker? Basically BB3 wifi edition vs BB3 non-wifi (but connected/playing via aux cable instead of blueteooth)

I always use the regular BB3 via aux. It may not have Dolby Atmos, but it's a whole other story compared to Bluetooth.

I use the auxiliary port on the BT version, and it sounds better than the wifi version. The BT version has crisp highs and punchy mids. The WiFi version's bass sounds drowned out and the highs/mids sound forced

First JBL should take care software updates. Making bluetooth speaker the worst after the update. Boombox 3 has issues after the update and pulse 5 too. Cannot do the part boost between them.

Thru my work I got an offer of 350 euro for both the Bluetooth and WiFi editions but I decided go with the Bluetooth one .. the whole point of this speaker is to be able to play music outside :)

Man, I can’t believe it. I bought my JBL boombox three back in October. I did not know the JBL boombox three Wi-Fi was available obviously I’m not very smart lol I did get it on sale for 399 but my only other question is I was going to buy a second one but if I buy the Wi-Fi model, will it still connect just as the party are boomboxes are are supposed to excuse me I’m dictating my message. Pb310 is a lot louder but less sound quality, BB3 sounds better overall imo but only gets half as loud

I purchased boombox 3 Wi-Fi sounds great on Wi-Fi but cut out really bad on Bluetooth cannot get it to go a minute without cutting out and phone right next to it returned it purchased a second one same problem so return that one and just got the boombox3 and this one is not cutting out

My boom box 3 always cuts out. Super annoying.

the biggest worry is that they both sound the same. wifi bandwidth is insanely more than cheezy bluetooth. meaning, the clarity and quality of sound should be significant. this tells me the bottleneck is in the internal speakers being low quality. playing a flac file over wifi, you should hear a HUGE difference in sound quality over bluetooth. if they sound the same, then there's your problem. clearly jbl went the cheap route, and the wifi is likely the version that came out decades ago, likely wifi-g. still, 1300Mbps for WiFi , vs. only 3 Mbps for Bluetooth is quite huge. the fact that you dont hear the difference is worrisome on the quality of the product.

The WiFi one is tuned with less midrange boost and more deep bass. I’ve had both at the same time. The WiFi model sounds better on Bluetooth and even better in WiFi. Honestly though the atmos isn’t that great all the atmos content sounds distant and not as clear to me. Max on tidal sounds just ridiculous in it though. With eq you can get it sounding Sonos good lol

Subwoofer? It's a low mid and 40 Hz bass driver. True subwoofers don't play low mids.

The way he lift that speaker is like nothing. Fyi those are heavy bad ass speaker.

The Bluetooth sucks totally, constant interference (except after a factory reset for a short while maybe).... also, can't get the PC to work with WiFi, which sucks as well. Feels like Great sound with iPhone though when through WiFi, but only then, unfortunately!! Well, smart TV also sounds OK. Sadly I can't recommend buying it...

Boombox 3 WiFi is wayy better than standard Boombox. It's now even more on deepside, it got even more rumbling more room vibrating deepside bass. Nicer tuning. Boombox 3 WiFi is better than standard cuz it sounds more nicer not harsher anymore. The EQ even more costumizeble not restricted of (+/-) anymore.

Right? The highs and mids on the wifi version sound forced, and the lows completely drowned. Plus no auxiliary port, which produces even better audio quality than wifi. And you don't need the wifi version's Dolby 3D. I use the regular Boombox with an aux to my TV. I'm an audiophile, and it sounds just fine.

Heres a little fun strange fact. If you travel like state to states, when you reach high elevations the passive radiators will pop out like they are swollen and once you come back down from elevation they will drop back in as if like pushing them in dramatically. I went to Colorado from here in ohio and took mine with me and noticed it, I was like what in the heck that is bizarre, lol.
