Eventually, almost certainly buoyed by the lip syncing scandal involving the pop group, Milli Vanilli, Wash sued the record label (Columbia) to get credit (and royalties from the song’s success) and she succeeded. Not only did she succeed, but her actions at least partially inspired Congress to pass legislation making proper crediting mandatory on song releases.

She gets full credit in our hearts, when we watch the video, listen for her voice, and it's not there. We give her credit by missing it. They substituted it w/a great value version.

The lady in the video is Zelma but she is lip syncing. The vocals are Martha Wash from the group Weather Girls/ Two Tons Of Fun. They didn't use Martha in the video because Martha is a large lady and they liked Zelma look. Martha sued them. Martha can blow!

@@batman1169 a serious banger. Man talk about filling the dance floor. As soon as you heard Martha’s intro of, “Everybody dance now!” Everyone rushed to the floor!
It's unfortunate that the ACTUAL female vocal was NOT Zelma as the video showed. It was Martha Wash. What's even sadder is that people are convinced it was Zelma singing it.

This came out in 1990, right when my sister and I became old enough to go "clubbing" as we called it. Such great times, and EVERYBODY was on the dancefloor when this came on. Love this reaction.

Martha wash....We Love You... All Respect to the Queen
Martha Wash's voice is a weapon.
This was played everywhere in the early 90’s. Totally classic!!!
This song is simply the best the late 80 / early 90 had to offer in dance music. And the video is still so fresh it can match every production 30 years later.
One of my all time favorite. I'm much older than you guys I think. 1988 this was #1 in all the dance bars. Thank you!
Definitely CC Music factory and Snap! were at the top of the pile in the 90's with awesome hits.
This was a time in music when other vocals were used on the recordings and they were not given credit. But thanks to Tena Marie who fought for these artist to be compensated for their work and to be included in the credits on the album liner notes .
I was in the army when this was released. I loved the song, but I never saw the video. This video just floored me. I have never seen a video that good.

This song will always remind me of my eighth grade dance lol. I still jam out to this song❣️🎼💃🏻💃🏻
The great Martha Wash- most underrated and screwed by the industry.
This one of the Weather Girls singing. Remember, Raining Men. Martha Wash did fit the visual, so somebody else is in the video. They didn't give her credit, til she sued.
Clivillés and Cole composing, Zelma Davis and Martha Wash singing, and Freedom Williams rapping, they were the f***ing masters of 90s dance music. There have never been more spectacular and dynamic dances than the ones people danced in the disco with their songs. . You should also react to "Here we go" (very similar to "Gonna make you sweat", but in my opinion better) and to "Keep it comin"

Zelma Davis didn't sing anything. It was all Martha Wash. They used Zelma Davis for eye candy. They didn't want Martha Wash in the video bc of her appearance. Which in my opinion Martha Wash is way prettier and more appealing than her. Black Box did the same thing to Mrs. Wash and again Martha Wash is prettier and more appealing than the woman they used to lip sync.

@@sgunder26 while I’m a huge fan of Martha Wash, it’s important to get the facts straight. Zelma Davis is a singer and a good one. She sang on most of the other C&C tracks. She did lip sync on this particular song. Black Box was a totally different deal.
C&C are legendary
Even knowing how dirty they did Martha Walsh .. I'm still a huge CNC music Factory fan love this album
This is a club banger they still play that song today especially here in. New Jersey Clubs up here that’s still a big hit today you guys need to react to Shannon “Let The Music Play””
To know the great Martha Washington she and her co-member of 2 tons of fun singing duo are front and center in the video "it's raining men." They are the master singers.
She is not the real singer. Just lip syncing. The vocals are from Martha Wash from the Weather girls

"It's Raining Men" by the Weather Girls..a must see video!
When this came out in clubs....you sweated hard ....dj s would extend this for 15 minutes....
They were at my grad night at Disneyland back in 91. Zelma was every bit as beautiful as you see her on the screen. Freedom Williams was all that cut and more. Talk about energy! Man that man could dance with intensity.
This was the first CD I bought moving up from cassette tapes. Another banger is KLF "3 A.M. Eternal".
Martha Wash deserves the credit for this smash hit crazy vocals I believe she sued and won.
It was released in late 1990 & a few months later, this would top the Billboard Hot 100 Chart for 2 weeks in February 1991 (I was on my way to boot camp in the Navy at the time, a baby at 19 years old) and I can tell you, later in 1991 when I was stationed at Naval Submarine Base, Bangor (Silverdale, Washington - across the Puget Sound from Seattle) and at the club on the base, when the DJ would play this song, the dance floor was PACKED
This was also a big hit in gyms for dancercise workouts. Great song.

HAHA! Don't you mean JAZZERCISE classes? 🤣... Remember the part of the 80'S in America where "GYM FASHION" became a thing?
Believe it or not, back in the 80s-90s, Walt Disney World in Orlando had a "Grad Night" for all high school seniors in Central Florida. They closed the park at night to everyone but us, and we had to dress nicely (not "prom" nice, but a skirt, button down shirt - not the usual "Disney" attire). They also invited major musical acts to play. In 1991, it was C+C Music Factory (and some others). Cool to get into rides quickly, hang out with friends AT DISNEY, and see several concerts! I hear they don't offer it anymore, which is a shame, because it was a highlight of my high school graduation memories.
Great song, my favorite dance piece.
What a time it was to be alive! The clubs, the fashion, the music, the house parties! Epic! This song is epic & will never die

@@thepsychophonic The lady in the VIDEO was not the one who was actually singing the vocals. The real vocalist really Was Martha Wash. the girl in the video was simply a much more attractive lady. Martha was dissed (in many people’s opinions) simply because she was a big girl and not super pretty. But she could SING. Her voice was similar to the great Aretha Franklin. @@NoelMcGinnis "simply a much more attractive lady"?? Zelma Davis, dude (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zelma_Davis). And I'll tell you another thing, I saw them perform live in 1993, in Madrid, with both singers, Martha and Zelma, and, although Martha sang better, of course, they both had very good, and very different voices. Do not pay attention to all the urban legends that circulate out there. Not all bands were like Milli Vanilli 🤣🤣🤣
