For some kids it isn't that they hang with the wrong crowd... They hang with their peers. Being homeless & having addict parents, you don't hang with the kids that got a BMW for their 16th birthday & get sent to cheer camp. They have to hang with the other "kids that have nowhere to sleep & nothing to eat". Did I just write a bar that would have fit in this song? 💔

I was never in foster care or didn't have an adult who loved me when I was a child. I went to 28 different schools across the country due to my Dads job growing up and met plenty of them tho. Might be surprising but every "white school" has them. I'm 36 so this was a ways back but things have only gotten worse for everyone. For whatever reason I always became friends with those girls and my family home was always open to them. My parents tried to do what they could for each of them and its harder than you'd think to get a kid out of the system, or away from real abusive parents. Why is that?? This song brings tears to my eyes specifically over a young girl named Jordy who was beat so bad she had welts the width of a belt but they were BAD and all over her back, her bottom, and upper legs. She was in and out of forster care but the state kept sending her back to her mom who was abusing the shit out of her. Cigarette burns, getting raped by her moms men, etc. She was my little sisters friend. Once my sister knew about it she called me for help. I documented everything, recorded incidents at her house, took pics of her welts and scars. All this took time for her to trust my sister enough and i was the 2nd one she trusted. They were in 8th grade and I was a senior. I turned everything over to the schools resource office and counselor and not a single thing was done but them being idiots and alerting her mom to get the worst beating of her life. Our family had to move again and Jordy just kept fighting that fight alone. She died in her young 20s alone with not a single person to still give a fuck about her 😪. Life can be f'd for people but empathy and support of those who really need it based on simply being human, especially children is huge. I would wreck havoc for her and others being an adult vs a teen. Love how this song has a teen girl sounding chorus to it and Nova doesn't get to deep but when you know, you know. Amazing work. Great review. Just felt like maybe you weren't feeling it to the full meaning which is understandable without any background info. Keep up the good work!

It's not her dad, but it is someone that has been featured in Tom's videos before. Someone told me on Friday that his name is Ryan when I recognized the face. Both Nova's dad and Ryan were featured in the video for "I Wish." Nova's dad, Terry Paholek, is the one that said "I wish I wasn't sick."
