    Hi Matthew, thanks for reviewing my video, I was very excited to see this!! To answer your question about how I got 100+ million Polyphony, yes it is infact possible to stack multiple key presses onto a single key at the same time in a MIDI file. It's used very commonly in Black MIDI pieces to create overlapped melodies to exceed the highest possible loudness of a note, or to make the MIDI file more hard for a PC to play by making alot of overlapped notes in a short time, like I did :D

  • @matticawood

    Hey! You are very welcome! That’s interesting to know…I suppose if I was stacking midi instruments in a normal song they could potentially be playing the same note but with a different timbre. Can you stack them with one instrument or do you have to layer different midi instruments to stack the same note? 😊

    @@matticawood you can stack from the same track In FL Studio DAW, you need to place the second note after the first one, and then drag it go get 2 notes in one place. On other ones i don't know

    More than 128 polyphony (or 88) means some of the notes are overlapped or sustained. If one key has 2 polyphony then the note will be double the loudness, it's linear

    There are also types of MIDI files called 'nut' midis, the way it works is that a note sequence is repeated millions of times at an increasing tempo, and 'SOJRTSS' (songs of just repeating the same sounds) which have some chords playing and the notes are subdivided in half each iteration.

    2:24 - He could’ve tried to add harmony, but it would be difficult to make it sound the way you’re expecting it to sound in your head due to a little quirk common in black MIDI. Basically, the notes were so dense that the frequency of key presses made the frequency of the notes being played sound different, if you get what I mean. So, while the notes in that section didn’t change in pitch, the keys were being played thousands of times per second on each octave, producing that “dog whistle” effect that you mentioned. P.S. you should listen to a black MIDI by the name of “LBSFS 215 million” sometime! (not its actual name, but I included the note count because there are so many renditions of ‘LBSFS’, and that one happens to be one of my favorites)

    the pianist: key change the actual word: transpose

  • @matticawood

    @matticawood

    9 ай бұрын

    Transposition is to take an existing piece of music and change the key (as a compositional technique), an example would be transposing a piece of music for a singer so they can more easily hit the notes. A key change or modulation is where the music changes during the piece and is audible to a listener. 😊

    The notes in a MIDI file can have a velocity of 1 to 127. The higher the velocity the louder the note is. You can stack multiple notes with that resulting in a louder note. At the beginning you were wondering how you didnt hear the notes at the border. And no it's not because they are too short. Its because the nites are set to a velocity of one which is not hearable unless stacked 100's of times.

    I know Black MIDI for quite some time. And recently i really got into this. And tried making one midi on my own. Its not easy when you don't know what note a key plays. The audio didnt got played. It may sound weird but there are programms that litteraly renders the audio. You can look up for 'Keppy`s MIDI Converter' which is a programm that does this thing. The video also got rendered in a programm called 'Zenith'. Its a programm specialized in rendering .mid files. Basically visualizing the midi file like in this video (sorry but i couldnt explain it otherwise) I hope my explanation about Black MIDI gave you ideas in how some things work

    The transition to the incredibly high pitch notes had me covering my ears for a second, lol. There is a question, rather unrelated to this video, I wish to ask someone of your expertise, though. I was reading a few days ago that it is considered late to start playing the piano at the age of 17. As I have now taken an interest in piano after dropping at four almost a year now, I have set a few goals in my mind. One of those goals is to eventually be able to play the third movement a moonlight sonata. Furthermore, I entertain the thought of eventually being able to play something by ear. However, as I mentioned, I read that you cannot become as good as you could’ve become if you had started younger. What is your opinion on this? Did you yourself start young? Do you believe that, if one was dedicated enough, a 17 year old or older could start now and eventually become great. Is it possible for them to become virtuosic, even? sorry for the text wall; I have just been asking myself this for a while now. Thanks again for the great reactions.

    the polyphony thing is caled overlaping notes this is very common in black midi trying to make a black midi without these notes is very hard to do and if so melody's would be lost and arts would be lost so without overlaps your midi wont have much notes at all so with these notes you can make black midi's with million's of notes trillion's and maybe one day quaddrillion's

    I've seen you react to HDSQ's Tau (τ), but now I need to see you react to the origin of it all: TSMB2's Pi (π) the Song with 3.141592 Million Notes. The only thing we're missing is a song with 9,424,777 notes to symbolize the value of π times 3. And if we're going to do other mathematical constants, we might as well need such BLACK MIDI pieces such as φ (phi), the golden ratio (1/2 times the sum of 1 and the square root of 5, which is essentially 1.6180339...) and e (Euler's Constant, which is equal to about 2.718281728459045...)
