Replacing Carousel with Human Nature was honestly one of the smartest decisions they made that led Thriller to being the legendary perfect album it is today.

It does feel weird thinking about Thriller with Carousel instead... doesn't quite feel right. I do like Carousel, but it almost feels like it belongs not on Thriller, and not Off The Wall, but some sort of in between album

@@diggingthegreats I often think about if they released an album in the 1984-1985 period, like the “One Day In Your Life” album released in 1981 with teenage Michael songs. It could’ve released all these completed songs like Hot Street and Carousel in a compilation album, capitalizing on Thrillermania. However, Michael was very concerned with overexposure, so I doubt it could’ve happened that way.

For some reason, when I read the title, I immediately thought of Human Nature. Such a gorgeous song, but unlike the other songs on that classic album. Especially love the synth in it which gives it such a unique sound. Love your enthusiasm as well and how you expertly broke this song down. New sub right here.

I heard that Carousel was written by Mike "Maniac" Sembello - a great tune but instrumentally and feel-wise it was more in the vein of "the lady in my life" and "the girl is mine", heavily driven by a chorused Rhodes electric piano, another 80s slow jam.

Good breakdown. I love breaking down songs. The best way to improve songwriting is to analyze why you live certain songs. I loved how you talked about how they filled the space with percussion. I’m a trap music enthusiast, so while I love a good snare, I love hi hats and other percussion just as much. I love how this track was produced.

Double time = x2, half = ÷2. People always get it wrong, double time means double the amount of time Vs half to make halves the amount of time so half is faster and double time is actually slower. You can find this feature in notation software such as Sibelius and similar notation software

This major production move is one of the very reasons why Quincy Jones place and recognition as a producer on MJ albums is solidified. A lot people feel Q gets too much credit or that he didn’t produced because he didn’t write these songs or Mj wrote majority of the music. But this move of just knowing what’s right for the record as far as songs and the direction it was going, made this album great Human Nature was a great call by QJ and 2nd by Mj. That’s one of the many roles of a producer. To have the right songs, Musicians and singers and arrangers on the record and Quincy did that exceptionally well. Yes Quincy wasn’t apart of actually writing these MJ songs except co writing PYT, but his touch and leadership helped guide that record.

It's interesting learning about how much collaboration there is in music. I used to think that singers, and bands exclusively made their own music. For a while I thought negatively about singers who didn't write their own songs. But now I've come to realize how incredible the collaborations can really be. It's just a shame that so many people probably don't know that some of their favorite songs had other great artists involved. I love Toto but had no idea that they had anything to do with this song.
