This Small Frigate Has a Utilitarian Interior, Space Engineers Critical Ship Review, Spatha

Ойындар

A critical ship review of the (MCI) Spatha-Class Frigate by Mr. Midori on Space Engineers, the Spatha is a compact small frigate with some firepower as well as a rather utilitarian interior designed for efficiency, it has some downsides though

    Hey there! I'm Mr. Midori, the builder of this ship. A few notes: -Personally, I don't take PCU into consideration while building because it is a non-issue on the servers and worlds I play on. But feel free to refit my ships to suit your needs, not all servers are so lenient in terms of PCU. -The welder system has saved me before on previous ships, so I like to keep it. However, feel free to remove it or replace it with something else if needed. -I use multiple small reactors instead of one large reactor because it enhances redundancy and build flexibility. Batteries are essential for survivability, providing backup power and supporting early to mid-game functionality in survival mode. -I find that the magnetic plate layout is just about right for my uses. On this ship, I mainly use it to drop decoy swarms. -While rocket launchers are my preferred weapon and are effective, they can be easily swapped out if needed due to PCU cost. -Importantly, this ship is designed as an anti-piracy escort, the ship isn't meant to fight enemy warships directly and the armor layout, internals, and weapons reflect that; however, it can engage warships at range with missile racks mounted to the provided connectors if necessary, they pack quite a punch. -I added a couple more cargo blocks, I'm not sure how I overlooked that during testing. Thanks for pointing that out! Anyway, thanks for the review! I hope you enjoy the ship.

    Those rocket launchers are a whole different story when Weaponcore is used. THey have longer range and they are homing missiles instead of dumbfire rockets. When you have the material on board to repair stuff along with the projector and welders it will keep you in the fight longer.

    O: that would certainly make the rocket launchers more practical to have and use xD and u wu welders are just so easy to disable because even if only the conveyor connection towards the materials gets severed they would stop functioning too

    There's some good design ideas used here, like how the cameras are placed and the design of the thruster skirt on the aft section. Yet the overall design of the ship itself also seems a bit dated, so to speak. I'd get rid of a ton of blocks that eat up PCU, like the rockets and welders. Remove a couple of the connectors, mag plates, and that merge block as well. Would make it a lot lighter, both in weight and PCU.

  • @MediumRareOpinions

    @MediumRareOpinions

    I was thinking its a bit PCU heavy for its size. I have a Cruiser design that's around 10 times the mass at only 3 times the PCU Things like using multiple small reactors or thrusters instead of single large ones in my view causes a bit of an odd scaling curve where a ship that's small can cost more PCU than a ship that's far larger and heavier.

    nice design but if i took out the 3 rocket launchers (2400PCU) and 6 welders (900PCU) i'd save 3300 PCU. a pretty inexpensive ship if tweaked

    There's a lot that can be done to optimize PCU. You really only need one magnetic plate on the bottom. I would go with one large reactor to charge the jump drives and one small reactor as a backup for the flight systems. I'd ditch ALL of the batteries. Two reactors of any size equals 50PCU. Every battery is 15PCU... plus four additional reactors. The programmable blocks are unnecessary if you're playing on an official server. Get rid of the rocket launchers. They are about useless on an official server when dealing with a twisting enemy. I tend to go light on O2/H2 generators, assemblers, and refineries on ships... especially something that doesn't have any storage space anyways. We have all of those at home... base. Keep it light... save on PCU. You could probably shave 1/3 of the PCU on that thing... oh... one large upwards hydrogen thruster for landing on planets. In a purely hydrogen design, you always want that as an option.

    Yeah c= the ship is nice but can definitely be more efficient x3 I won't remove the batteries though u wu it's nice having them for convenience with other power source when I don't have uranium x3

    @@LucaTheGuide In an all hydrogen ship, just use a hydrogen engine to run everything but jump drives and railgun if you are worried. Maybe have one battery as a backup. It's just easier to mine and refine uranium.

    I prefer ships that have a sense of realism to them. This interior does not give that impression at all. And yes, waaaaay too inefficient. But not necesarily i.t.o. PCU, just volumetrically inefficient. Too big for a frigate. Too heavily armed for a frigate. This ship has basically no appeal at all to me.
