    Thank you very much for your feedback Jay! We also offer this liquid cooled solution in our Prometheus XVII which has a quiet membrane keyboard and our MECH-15 G3R for those seeking a quiet mechanical keyboard in a smaller and lighter 15.6" form factor. Also, you were almost there on removing the bottom cover... Three screws were remaining on the back section (behind the LPP port cover) that still needed to be removed and you'd have been there!

    I love Eluktronics. Sure, my Eluktronics 17" was a rebranded Clevo, but I can call them right now and speak to someone in America who has extensive experience with their products, and actually answers all my questions without delay. None of the big names come close. It sounds counter-intuitive, but small companies are often best for enthusiasts.

    This thing reminds me a bit of my Alienware Aurora m9700 which was a "desktop replacement" in 2006. It featured not one but TWO Geforce Go 7900 GSs in SLI (believe it was the first SLI laptop). What they didn't tell me was that due to the unique configuration you could never update the graphics drivers. That fact meant it started to be unable to run newer games after about 18 months. That was my last laptop because it made me realize some of the physical limitations laptops suffer from. Water and electricity in that close of a proximity will lead to trouble. Although it is in-elegant in its current form of a two step process to connect, the "one plug" solution would probably end up being too "over engineered" for a "consumer" product. And considering it would not be selling in large quantities, all that time and money invested to develop the "one plug" will have to be passed on to the customer, which will inevitably make the end product much more expensive than it needs to be.

  • @anotherriddle

    @anotherriddle

    @@Femerenden you are right. Allthough it does not seem too hard to place a barrel jack on one frame, right next to the quick disconnects. Feasability would depend on how little the quick disconnects drip. Worst case you might have corrosion problems. With low voltages it isn't a safety issue. However, you are right that that the manufacturer probably didn't want to deal with that headache. Still, I'd love to do a mod like this. 😅

And that to me means it’s only good for people who really need the power on long work trips and then settle back at home for extended periods again too. I do plan to build a desktop when the next generation of CPUs and the next generation of GPU come out but I am currently satisfied with this computer. I would add a cap replacment for the liquid cooling, those things (ofc not this in particular) tend to break. or maybe like silicon caps like the Zen products that use RCA protectors

    Hi Jay! Could you do a benchmark with the power brick unplugged and battery power only?? Performance laptops typically lose a ton of performance, sometimes up to 40% on the extreme when unplugged. I was wondering where this stood in comparison. Thanks

    Re: "liquid" cooling a laptop (or just a bigger cooler) it can be more widely a thing if bottom panels on laptops had a "door" right over where the CPU and GPU are and have built in coolers that don't have heatpipes sticking out on the Z-axis (ex vapor chambers or the heatspreaders all around the chips on more recent Legion and Omen laptops). This way you can set up a stand at home where you have a water block screwed into (in a way that they can't short the laptop motherboard), have thermal tape on them, and then easily take off the door (instead of undoing so many screws and risking breaking clips frequently, or just barely use the gaming notebook totally as a desktop replacement and barely use it elsewhere) and set it over the cold plate. Can work with air coolers too depending on how high you can set the laptop on your desk. Either way the heatspreader or vapor chamber requirement is so the weight of the laptop does not all rest on the hollow heatpipe. If the bottom panel doors were a thing maybe the stands where you can screw in a waterblock or air cooler can even be mass produced (and have rad mounts) instead of being DIY wood, fiberglass, or 3D printer projects. Alternately if manufacturers find all this too janky just give us solid metal bottom panels (without flipping the motherboard...unlike Alienware) and give users the option of sticking tehrmal tape between the cooler+heatspipes/vapor chamber and the bottom panel to increase thermal mass as well as have the laptop cooler's fan also move heat from that panel instead of just the laptop's fans blowing on the heatsinks. This already works on Macbooks and I've seen a couple of people on Reddit doing this with Razer Blades. No it doesn't bench very high, but it does extend how long the CPU can run on PL1 or PL2 before throttling and how long the GPU can maintain boost while slightly cutting noise (you still need the laptop cooler with a fan, you're just getting the built-in fans to spin slower).

    Looks like a good solution. I went with a MSI GS66 12th gen as a desktop replacement (its good enough for my use-case). But one thing that I would test with that Eluktronics laptop is to see if it is possible to access a full bios like it is on the MSI by pressing (Left) Shift+CTRL + (Right) Alt+F2 and then have some fun with the cooling (are the internal tubes copper og alu?). I take it you have some custom loop parts to play with (also some fluid gaming parts if its Alu internally). Then perhaps some records could be broken?

    Love this approach. My everyday laptop is a 17" 4th gen i7 with a mobile Nvidia GPU. 7 years old. I got it for gaming and the muscle it can throw at any work task including video editing. 7 years later, modern games are beyond what the GPU can do, but the rest of the laptop still kicks ass and the GPU still boosts video rendering. There is no work task I can think of that it cannot do. So this modern water cooled laptop is a terrific modern take on the same sort of idea and likewise this laptop will still be relevant for heavy duty work tasks long after the Nvidia card is obsoleted by the games of 2029.
