    The first RPG I published started as a Dungeon World hack, and it has 20 classes hehe It also has 45 races. And 40 especialization (kind of a mini class that you can add to your character, that is NOT related to the basic class). Basically "compendium classes" but with another name. Or for those familiar with D&D 3.5, prestige classes.

    @@tabletopbro Nah man, I love your stuff and wish you got more traffic so bad. After finding out about Blades in the Dark by accident, I slippery sloped myself into your Dungeon World vids and am now 100% part of the cult that this is the way roleplaying should be. Now if I want to play a wargame I play Warhammer. If I want a narrative game I play Dungeon World with friends or Ironsworn if solo. I have no need for mainstream games that are just sub par at being either. I really do feel like part of a conspiracy theory nowadays but soon, we'll be the ones laughing when they realize we're right! ...right? Anyway, here's to hoping you get a dungeon world let's play podcast Patreon together so I can sub. It might not make much money but I'd sure enjoy it. Good luck and hang in there. I recently converted my two D&D campaigns to DW and despite the advice of the DW subreddit to keep stuff simple at first, I chose to ignore their advice and dive straight into class warfare head first. It has been a BLAST, best choice to not heed that advice. It let my characters build their characters akin to their D&D characters, and even let some of their characters shake things up to really capture the character they want to play. Would 100% recommend.

    I'm not a boomer. I'm GenX. Anyway, one of my favorite things in Dragon magazine years ago was an article for BECMI, where race was class, and it was a whole thing about how to custom create your own class by picking all the different character traits you wanted basically a la carte. Remember, every class back then had its own xp progression, so each trait you chose had an xp cost which added to the overall. You could have a powerful or diverse character with a slow progression or a more specialized one with a faster progression. And you could choose some traits at certain levels, kind of like martials that gain spells. (Issue 109 btw) I always wished D&D or other games had something like this, but then games went in a different direction, which is fine with me. Like I said, I'm not a boomer. They're grouchy af about everything.

    How extensive does class building get? This sounds like just the thing to get my 5e group to try out Dungeon World. If I can translate their 5e characters with this, they might be intrigued. For instance, is it possible to build or re-flavor the options to make an artificer? That's the one that's holding me up the most.

  • @tabletopbro

    @tabletopbro

    3 ай бұрын

    Pretty extensive. I flipped to a random page and it was a specialty called “Shadowmancer” which was a magician who controlled shadows. There’s like 88 specialties (idk if Johnstone added more after release) so I’m sure you could find something!

    @@tabletopbro That sounds awesome, I won't lie. I'm also a little concerned about power creep with constructed classes. I know Dungeon World is generally good at maintaining somewhat powerful characters who can still be considered vulnerable due to generally low HP, but do you notice any specialties or anything being capable of breaking the game?

I wanted to ask you, have you heard something or maybe even played Avatar Legends? Its PBA set in... well... Avatarverse. Hey man, I know it's not on topic but you're kinda THE Masks guy on KZread, so... Could you do a video on ways/tips of playing as an older generation in Mask (Gold/Silver/Bronze)? I recently showed Masks to my friends and they were super on board on the game's idea and system... Untill I said they had to play teenagers... Like, modern teenagers. It was like a bucket of cold water on them. So, is it possible to hack the system to play as an older generation? Has the community done it (I could not find anything about it on my research)? I was thinking about maybe playing as one of the older generations (Bronze, for example), but as teenagers, since that would allow my group to roleplay as the generation closest to our own without having to change the playbooks. Maybe play into the "lost generation" theme the book imply. Has anyone tried it? Anyway, great video and great work!

    @@tabletopbro That's the great thing about there being so many RPGs on the market. A literal metric ton, most with different options and choices, styles and interesting mechanics. PBtA games in general are not for me. The mechanics feel like someone is forcing me to rewire my playstyle, which makes it (for me) feel completely disconnected. But, DW... is definitely not for me... mainly due to that one guy and his hypocrisy. I tried it, and then his BS happened, and I immediately tossed it in the trash.
