The "First 100 Yards" has replaced the Shark Attack in Army Basic Training, and has received a large amount of criticism. Both Veterans and those still serving have serious doubts as to whether the new curriculum will have the same or desired effects as the Shark Attack - the most memorable moment/event in almost every Soldier's basic training. Angry Drill SGT reviews this new change and offers his unique insight from a video taken by Command SGT Major of the Army michael A. Grinston's twitter profile.

Sergio Avalos a lot of guys failed a decent amount of “graduation requirements” such as Land Nav and BRM and get passed along to make numbers. The army is in some desperate need for 11Cs as we get attempt and attempts one after another and if we fail with our company we do it again with another company in the battalion. If we fail that we have to do it the week before leave

When I went to basic, someone left the sink on so as a corrective training, the drill sergeant took away "sink privilages" to fill up the mop bucket so we had to sweat enough to make the floor wet for like 3 days. we would run up and down the stairs with the doors closed to keep it hot. we got sink privilages back when we started getting consistent heat casualties, and that was our drill sergeant's method of determining who would be a heat cat risk for the remainder of osut.

I remember only one kid getting jumped on by all 4 of them, but not why (this was nearly 20 years ago). I only had one yell at me because we had formed up with me just randomly in the squad leader postion. One of the DS , who was a foot shorter than me starts yelling at me because of not knowing something about a squad mate, and making me do a bunch of pushups. I was in the squad leader postion for the rest of the weekend though. I'm sad that the shark attack is gone. Even though my only experience with them was at age 14 or so in highschool. I got blasted by like 4 drill instructors once back in boot camp and it was a really good learning experience😂 It was a mistake in a drill movement and needless to say I never made that mistake again. My buddy however...he was our armory recruit and this was during our one hour of free time every night and our Drill Instructors were having a company wide meeting for all the DI’s in our duty hut. And the armory recruit had no idea this was happening and he pounded on the hatch to simply return the armory key. It was like a clown car of Drill Instructors flooding out of the Duty Hut and blasting hun, unbuttoning his blouse and spitting all over his face. I counted at least 15 DI’s blasting him and my Senior came out with a fat dip in his mouth with a huge grin on his face. All he said was “ZERO!” And they stopped and retreated back into the Duty Hut. He then chuckled and walked back inside without saying another word. We all learned to never do that again. It was incredible

And what the fuck are they doing assigning new recruits do a "team mission" without first teaching how to FUNCTION as a team first?? That begins with PT, close order drill, marching, discipline, and to weed out individualists who are not team players. And yes, the Shark Attack.
