Unfortunately there is not enough customers that appreciate the knowledge. Most of us with a passion and knowledge about the product lose out to the slick "If-I-coulda-would-ya" sales people. Each month the top salespeople in our dealership were those who didn't know the difference between an axle ratio and Axl Rose. I fell victim to this all the time: I would spend hours teaching about the Jeep they were interested in, explaining Jeep's unique 4wd systems, suspensions, off-road capability, and the Jeep lifestyle, only to have them buy from some Slick-Willie across town who was $50 cheaper.

It always amazes me when I talk to salesmen at dealers, I very seldom encounter one that has as or more much knowledge as I do about the product they are trying to sale me.

Nathan McDonald, exactly. When they do have the same knowledge base, that’s the dealer I go with. Granted there are only two of each dealership in my town, but still. It’s refreshing to hear someone who has done their homework as I have, as a new vehicle buyer.

I think it was the same year they introduced the aluminum body, if I'm not mistaken. Some of the weight savings from the body (only about 400lbs for a crew cab versus steel body) was transferred into strengthening the frame.

Average fuel economy on the trip MPG meter never reset since the truck was purchased is 20.4 MPG absolute average city/highway. 800km range with the standard small (86 L ?) fuel tank. Very impressive for a full size truck. And I would not consider myself to be a "Ford guy"... never owned a Ford truck before, in fact, this is my first truck. It was 36,300 $ off the lot, with the discounts, and since it was a 'last year' model, with mostly 2018s on the lot. Will agree on the power to weight ratio, especially with the lightweight basic 2WD "work" truck, a Mercedes C300 'Compressor' cannot take it until 85 MPH, when the aerodynamics of the Mercedes win out.

To the owner if you happen to read this, but you mentioned the fuseable link is good for 100A. Pretty much any winch big enough to recover your truck (or any vehicle) is going to draw way over 100A. You're going to want to wire it straight to the battery, and if you do use a fuse (which is typically not done on a winch) you'll want at least a 500A fuse.

I had an 05 RC FX4 5.4 leveled on 315/70-17 BFG AT KO's for a daily from 06-16. I bought it a year old with 15k on it for right at 18 grand and sold it with 95k miles. It had the cam phaser tick that sounded like a 7.3 powerstroke idling. Other than that it never had a problem. I love the look of regular cab trucks but without a bench seat they aren't very family friendly. A lifted regular cab on large tires/ small wheels is best to me.

@@BYLRPhil literally any 4wd with second row seating or 4 doors can "overland" which if I'm being honest is the most rediculous term. You can "overland" in a Subaru. If your taking your vehicle up dried river beds, through 1 ft or deeper mud or snow, your not overlanding you 4 wheeling. Now that's not to say I'm bagging on people who enjoy this overlanding trend, it's just that I dislike the creation of terminology that's made just to sell people on a "lifestyle" that's existed already for years. You either 4 wheel or you don't. Anyone can camp in a truck tent, sleep in the bed of the truck, or back of the SUV. Also just about any vehicle can visit most places of outdoor interest. Lol anyhow 2k on a suburban that nets your family fun and enjoyment. I call that a good deal and money well spent.

The truck was very light and nimble for a full size truck, and the 5 speed really helped the 4.6 feel powerful and peppy. In the bigger configurations with the Auto, the 4.6 would feel underpowered. Also i could get up to 22 mpgs on a tank if i was going on a trip. In the 90's it was absolutely unheard of to get anywhere near 20 mpgs on a full size gasser truck.

I have a 2004 F150 I have had since September 2006. I paid $23,845 USD cash. Over the years I have put an additional $20k or so in parts, accessories, maintenance and repairs. I know $20k sounds like a lot but its not really considering I've had it for 14 1/2 years. Over the years the most expensive thing I had to do on it was replace a sensor in the passenger seat. There is an air bladder that senses if someone is sitting in the seat. Parts and labor on that was about $2200. Other than that just minor stuff. I've put tires on it like 5 times at about $800 each time. I had to replace the windshield. Replaced head light assemblies, window motor, 2 different window control arms, alternator, 4 batteries, bed cover, trailer brake cable, shocks, exhaust manifold seals on both sides, transmission shifter cable, muffler/exhaust system(due to city ord.) twice, center brake light seal, got the pluggs changed twice, changed the coil packs, light bulbs, wipers, brakes and oil too many to count. All and all it has been a great truck to me. My next truck will be a Ford.

Correction, the 9.75 rear doesn't come from the plow package. That changes the front springs. The 9.75 axle is automatically given over the standard 8.8 when the 3.73 gears with the E-locker are chosen, regardless of what engine is in the truck. My '18 RCSB 5.0 had 3.73 gears and so did my '17 Supercab 5.0 with 3.73; both were 9.75 rear ends. Aside from that, HDPP and maybe Max Tow gives you the special larger 9.75HD axle, but RCLB is the only regular cab with access to those and HDPP comes with serious weight and ride tradeoffs. Other than that, this guy knows his stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if I found him on f150forum and the Official Regular Cab thread. At least, that's where I would still be, if I hadn't sold my '18 regular cab short bed on account of it being a complete and utter lemon.
