Another antenna I just tried for the Aquilia 16’s video feed, which seems to work better than monopole or helical is an inverted “ F” antenna . Fits the shape of the enclosure.

So I’ve been flying R/C planes and helis for over 30 years (that’s hurts in so many ways to admit). I’ve been wanting to try out the new quadcopter tech specifically FPV. Based on what I saw here and another YTchannel, I purchased the Aquila 16 kit and got into it. First, you’re absolutely right to suggest that those new to FPV should fly without the goggles in the beginning. Knowing this, I still wanted to experience how awkward it would be. I had the goggles off before the battery in the quad was low. Flying R/C for so long is making the transition a bit weird. The video quality needed some help as did the position of the camera lens. Actually fixing the angle of the camera revealed the problem with the video quality. The video module has two pivot points that allow for some articulation but the pcb hits the module housing. With a little repositioning of the pivot bosses and removing some plastic to allow proper clearance for the video module, the view in the goggles is perfect. Now the video quality fix… RF antennae require precision that mass production can’t provide. The antenna solution that came from the factory is a wire monopole that’s not even close to the proper length. I researched BetaFPV and determined that 5.8ghz is (roughly)where video signals live. So with a lot of math done by freeware for antenna design I first trimmed the 18mm wire to 12.8mm (1/4 wavelength). This made a marked improvement. I then replaced the straight wire with a tiny helical monopole (again antenna design freeware) and found that the Tx power can be increased in settings. With these tweaks the video quality exactly what it should be. As far as FPV, I can’t stand the goggles so I rigged a way to pipe the video to the flat screen in my garage… Sooo much better. Of all the channels on the subject of FPV , Yours and Capt Dr’s are by far the best channels that cover this topic and the only two I will watch. Thanks for the honest review v. the others. LOS primarily electric launch sailplane flyer. Winter is too cold (sub -5C highs) to fly outdoors. Considering 1S mini quads for indoors LOS and then indoors fpv for the too cold months. Questions: 1. the internal google and Tx batteries. Are they user replaceable? 2. NBD Hummingbird and put together your own beginner fpv kit a better option? Add RadioMaster Pocket, FatShark Scout ends up only ~$60 more.

Question: I’m using a DJI Avata and having major issues with losing connection when entering industrial structures. It goes from 18 satellites to zero as soon as I enter the doorway. Do GepRC cine-woops use different tech that allows the connection to penetrate multiple concrete walls and industrial ceilings? Or will I have the same issues regardless? Thanks in advance!

I am training on Cetus Pro now, Aquila will work on same goggles and controller? I have Literadio 2 se. Also will this drone give upgrade moment to me?

I have big question about buying the Aquila16 alone, will this work on my Boxer Elrs tx. And can I replace the camera or I will have to replace the whole VTX and cam together, I saw a guy doing Aquila16 walksnail but it didn't anwser much of my question about the horrible default cam.

@dronecamps I have this quad and wanted to know if you have plugged it into Betaflight? when I plugged it in it would not show up. I was using betaflight 10.9.0.

That 2nd battery - was at room temp when you started to fly? And then it keeps itself warm while flying due to current flow. I wouldn't think under those conditions it would suffer much due to cold. But maybe you had the battery outside for a while before starting to fly? Thanks for another good video.

Hey for the camera you can adjust the transmission power, go to the menu in the goggles and you can adjust it there.

I upgraded my cetus pro with the 03 camera and it was waaaay better. Probably it would work on this one too. Question: did you switch the vtx power for outdoor or was it still 25 mw?

The vtx was still @ 25mw. Once it was on the wrong channel and did badly. A switched and it did decent on 25mw. I just couldn’t see the ground above the trees lol.

I have been searching for a starter quad, and have the Aquila 16 on order. Should the need arise, can the camera be exchanged for a better camera? I like your easy format. Thanks for the honest report.

Thank you for posting this video. I'm still waiting for my aquila to ship. Do you recommend actually buying the 650mAh battery for manual mode? Do you think the 1100mAh run into any issues mainly using it in manual mode?

It’s hard to say about the 650 million battery because my 1100 battery died in three minutes in cold temperatures today. So honestly I would hold off ordering any 650 mAh unless you were going to fly indoors for now. You might not be impressed with the flight time with the 650.

Can the Aquila be configured in Betaflight? I bought the Aquila and bound it to a Radiomaster Boxer, but none of the switches work. Newbie here!

That camera looks weird as heck outdoors. If it's anything like a Caddx Ant or something, but custom integrated I wonder if you could hook up an OSD 5-way toggle and get into the menus and adjust the settings. On the battery charging...A good charger will show you how many mAh are being packed in once you hit terminal high voltage and the charger switches over to CV mode instead of CC mode. Just because you are close to the terminal high voltage doesn't mean you are close to being fully charged. Easy to miss that when you are in a hurry.

How can you change the camera angle?

I think it's a cool looking avata like fpv. Definitely a little too dark on the colors, but it sounds great to me. As you know that I don't have no kind of fpv experience, but why do the video looks shaky, and looks like it's skipping? Wow I gonna go full in with a o3. If I gonna drop 200 plus I mite as well get something better. Cause in the long run I gonna spend more. So mite as spend instead of dropping 200 and then spending if that makes any sense lol. But that my opinion I usually go full in myself if I entering something.

I agree on mostly everything you went over in this video. I bought this drone and I agree indoors the camera is fine outside the shadows are way too dark. I will also state the drone flys mostly well my main issue is it felt weak outside like the smallest breeze say 5mph was a fight and my other drone this size the Tinyhawk 3 freestyle running on 1s was much more manageable it just didn’t feel powerful enough which a 1s system is at a disadvantage anyway but the struggle was real and maybe it’s just my particular drone but I will stick to indoor or make sure its completely calm outside. I liked most everything else the controller is perfectly fine and the goggles do their job I also had to tighten the antenna on it as mine was also loose but that’s it I still prefer my th3 but I can see this being ok for someone new but there are better options.

Whoopfly16 is better quality and value than BetaFPV quads according to many reports. I almost went for the pro, but heard about inconsistent quality issues so I went with the WF16 instead. If you’re really detemined to stick to your options, the pro offers better value than the Aquila.

I knew there was a reason I liked watching your video...that Carolina coffee cup just made me realize why hahaha!!!!

You can charge this battery up to 4.35 V like most of the 1s-whoop batteries.

Yes, because this battery is a LIHV. For LIPO 4.2V is the maximum.

Cetus X is 10g heavier, so it should be more wind stable than Aquila16. Also Cetus X uses 2x1S batteries joined serially - this gives you double more voltage and more rpm on motors so you have more speed and power to fly but less flight time (though it's more about wattage than voltage). But the worst thing in Cetus X is colour! It is white and becomes all green in few minutes of grass cutting.

As a fledgling FPVer, I had my first flight of this drone tonight, flying it as I would any of my non-FPV drones, and only in Normal Slow mode. It's not very responsive that way. All my other drones are more responsive. Even the Tello is more responsive. Though the yaw rate is good. I'll have to try out the other modes as I gain confidence with it.

Can you fly mode 4 in this? I know I'm odd lol

NO IDEA.. I think so? Maybe change it in the radio software. Flight modes: 3 modes : N “Normal” with stability and optical flow position hold. S “Sport Mode flies a little faster. M mode “Manual Mode” flies with no stability and allows flips and rolls. Also Slow, Medium, and Fast for each Mode. lol. 😝 Mode 4 wtf. 🤣🔧☝🏻🍺

I ordered this one last week as my first drone, only because how it was advertised to fly for 8 mins and has 200m range. And according to your review it has only 4min fly time. and maybe 30m range. That's crap. :( Wish you had this review a week ago.

hey man im from germany and did not understood everything you said could you tell me what voltage i should charge the battery max? and can you tell me at what voltage i should land?

Shouldn't the prop tips have near zero clearance to the ducts? Aren't they losing a ton of efficiency like that? Weird. I feel like BetaFPV misses the mark on a lot of stuff and it's sad because they were my first introduction to a performance toothpick with their X-Knight 4".

I had gotten pretty good at the sim flying thru objects and whatever, but as soon as I put on the goggle I felt so restricted like I couldn’t see 10 feet in front of me, will def be upgrading some parts

I bought the aquila16 on its own to try it out and was not impressed with it. I dont see how a newbie would be able to fly it, I had problems, and I'm not a newbie. But when you take it off the optical sensor thing, it flys normally. the speed setting is actually pretty good tho, and allows you to go slower, until youre ready for faster speed the camera on this is bad. i dont know why they used the worst camera they have. as the Meteor65 pro and Meteor 75 pro both have much better cam. I think the Meteor 65 pro is much more fun to fly than this aquila the battery tho is good on this thing, I was able to get 8 minutes out of the 1100 mah battery

What a mixed bag of issues with this drone? Captain Exaggerate said "in the history of the world, this rtf was the best ever"? So, I'm thinking these drones need a chicken avoidance feature?

I want to get into FPV… looking at the Avata But never flown anything and I just want to get this to see if I get motion sick and to try and fly. But holy moly the camera outdoors is rubbish Thats just 10x more difficult for beginners like me

Extra laughable because : Interference has nothing to do with a not so great camera with bad low spectrum ratios. Study up about cameras my friend. Interference affects the vtx not the camera look and low light performance.

@@dronecamps Yup that’s true ! I asked him for help with my sub250 whoopfly, he right off the said it’s my fault as I’m the guy flying it. The drone drifts to the right, very hard to control forward without stick way to the left. It’s not my first fpv by no means. I can’t use betaflight my Mac is real old and it just don’t work. That’s why I bought the whoopfly.
